AHA

Post by Gphrhcky22 »

I apologize if my information is bad. I am just working off the information from the Star Tribune article from a while back. I know the media never lets the facts get in the way of a good story, but I assumed they did a little research before running the story.

AHA has been around for a long time, not always as a co-ed school and certainly not as a hockey power. My point, which you have proven, is that nobody cares about private schools until they are taking kids from public schools and winning state titles with them. Again, I use the example of SPA. Is anyone questioning SPA about recruiting kids? No. Nobody cares because they are bottom feeders.

I think the reason threads like this get shut down is because guys (Kodiak Chew) get too worked up that they can't carry on a civil debate and can only see their side of the story, then go on the defensive.

Like I said, some people are just a little too sensitive to this topic.

Hey Gopherhockey22,

Appreciate your apology re:the facts. Let's not let facts get in the way of a good post.

The reason we AHA supporters are somewhat sensitive to anti-AHA and anti-private school comments, is because we have been hearing them for too long and because 99% are baseless (i.e. not based in fact) and therefore unfair. If we don't defend our kids and our schools, who will?

Its like the comment you made in your last post, "My point, which you have proven, is that nobody cares about private schools until they are taking kids from public schools and winning state titles with them.", is an offensive statement.

Nobody is "taking" these kids from the public high schools.

Here is an excerpt from my post earlier today on another thread which bears the truth in the matter as I perceive it,

"I also think AHA supporters are sick of being a target for all of the public shoolers who blame them and every other private school for "stealing" their student athletes. Regardless of their name, local Youth Hockey Associations are private entities whose charter it is to provide a beneful experience for their members, and not to matriculate their members to this high school or that high school.

Where a kid wants to attend high school is a completely independent decision. If a public high school hockey program wants kids from their local association to attend their high school, they better have a competitive program or the better kids from those programs will go elsewhere, both public and private."

Hey Lee,

Where is Patrick Finegan? He was an absolutely outstanding skater. Saying that Randolph allowed allowed him to roam a little bit, would be a gross understatement.

I heard he went to major juniors after 98. Is he still playing hockey somewhere?

Thanks.

Cliff77, I am not sure how I should word that statement. If I would have said "recruiting", you would have blown up, if I would have said "using", you would mistaken the meaning of that too. So, let me try this again. Private schools have players who grew up playing in a local youth association that usually serves the area public school and nobody cares until the best players go to a different high school to play. I can tell you are gun shy to the point where you even analyze the way I use certain words in a post.

You are right that public schools do not own the rights to players in their youth association. It has increased the pressure for high school coaches. Personally, I think it is better for Minnesota high school hockey to have 25 teams with a legitimate chance to win a state title, than to have just ten of which only about five make it to the state tourney. Open enrollment, not just private schools, has created this group of schools that attract talent from every .500 or worse school around it.

MN HS hockey is becoming more like major league baseball, and a lot less like the NFL. In MLB, the same teams will be at the top when it is all said and done. In the NFL, every dog has their day, unless you are the New Orleans Saints.

It is, what it is.

Here is a little tid-bit for you all. I have heard that DeLaSalle is trying to bring back hockey after 35 years. I guess that means that all the kids from the northern part of Mpls will be recruited to play there. Wrong, "D" can only field a team if they coop with some of the faded MPLS schools. Kids from North and Henry will get to join and maybe some others. I think that is great. Had D had hockey in the late 70's, I would have ended up there instead of AHA.
________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!
