Re: Year of the privates?

Post by packerboy »

Well, puckster has given us an all private school tournament.

That would be extremely popular with so many fine posters around the board and , well .....be embraced by just about everybody

Heck, a lot folks have been demanding it for years: " Private schools should have their own tournament. "

But it cant happen.

In AA , Moorehead will be coming out of 8 and either East or ER from 7. I dont think there are any private schools in those sections anyway..same with 6 where BJ should be favored.

In A, I think 99% of privates are in 2 sections and more than half the sections dont have a private school in them.

So Puckster, who do you think will be in the public school tournament?

I like it. ER as a private school. It is kind of private up there, especially after 9:00 PM, when the traffic goes down.

Now, we have to get da Spuds to go private, which should be no problem the way they recruit. Besides, there are enough Catholics up that way so it would be a good fit.

Bloomington Jefferson already thinks they are private. Heck, everybodys is rich with daddy's money so thats a done deal.

Section 1 ........ there are enough Drs living in Rochester to just say they are private too. If we could get Nick Colemen down there and expose something...it would seal it.

I'm not sure where you got you're information, but I know for a fact that Michael Dorr always has been and always will be a Roseville Raider. He will follow in Marty Sertich's footsteps and bring the Mr. Hockey Award and Hobey Baker trophy back to Roseville Arena.

On paper, Cretin is the team to win it and that's why I picked them...

All I posted was that, in the sections I follow most closely, private schools will be favored. I believe I posted predictions of STA out of 3A, D. Marshall out of 2A, Cretin from 2AA, Hill from 3AA, AHA from 5AA.

I don't know that you can argue that those teams are not favorites in their sections with the exception of Hill.

If anyone can confirm bigtime's claim that Jared Stewart will indeed return to Hastings this season than that could make 2AA a toss up.

Any truth to the claims of some of the kids transferring to Holy Angels?

NPGandydancer:

I too think that Jefferson will be tough this year, but not as stong as last years team. They, like EP will have a couple solid players to build around.

Lee is a good goalie, but you must keep in mind, any goalie that had as much talent at D in front of him will look great!

Look at what happened when Jefferson saw some of the top teams in the state - they lit him up from time to time. Again, he is good, I jut don't think he can carry this team to state - but you never know.

I do think EP will be pretty solid this year. They do not have the big names as years gone by, but they are very deep with talent and will do much better then people think. It will be a heavy senior team with good size on the D as well as speed and some good size up front. Question will be the goaltending - if Kremer or Brooke play up to their ability - I would give the nod to EP over Jefferson in the section final.

Don't forget about Benilde - I think they could be a sleeper and if they play their top game - I think they could give either Jefferson, EP, and Edina a run for the money.

My predictions for Section 6 AA
1). EP
2). Jefferson
3). Edina
4). Benilde
5) Chaska

Should be a fun season!

pucker63...i can't disagree with your view on 6aa. the red knights may be the wild card...they will have something to prove following the move from "a" to "aa". 6aa will be exiting start to finish.

regarding the netminder spot at ep, don't rule out sund. if he contends for a spot he might give kramer a run for the backup position. this is his 4th and final year at the high school level. my sources tell me that coach smith will give the new kid...brian brooke every opportunity to lock the starting spot. he has the pedigree via his old man...ex-bruin/north star bob brooke. brian is just more aggressive around the net than either kramer or sund...similiar to the style of dodds.

again, for those of you who are wondering, what kind of a sign-on name is np gandydancer. it ain't a fairy name for starters. i worked my arse off criss-crossing the upper-midwest in my youth laying track for the railroad. the only ice i saw was on our flatbed cars hauling water to drink! gandydancer is railroad slang for the job initially labeled by the irish in the 1800's. history lesson over!

Rest easy gandydancer. Most of us knew it was a railroad term w/ Irish roots. It is an honorable expression. May the Northern Pacific RR rest in peace. (Founded outside of Duluth, at Carlton, 1871)

Gandy Dancer

Post by hockeydad »

First time I ever heard the term Gandy Dancer was when my kid was in bantams four years ago and we had a tournament in Siren, Wisconsin. Some of the families brought snowmobiles and went out on the Gandy Dancer Trail from Siren to St. Croix Falls.

hockeydad...all our blood, sweat and tears laying the track and spurs are now being replaced by bike trails for the future lance armstrongs of the world...and that is indeed a good thing!
