I guess we can say this isn't the most talented team Edina's put on the ice. I wonder the last time SLP ever beat them. Too bad they didn't hold on...Brodziak Fan Club wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:19 pmEnds in a 4-4 tie.

I assume Karl was at the game, while I was just watching the stream and dividing my attention with the Delano game, so his observations carry more weight. I’ll add a few points...karl(east) wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:51 pm East-Denfeld was a good, entertaining start to the year. Both teams have some work to do in back but showed some good creativity at times. The Hounds has good control in the first period and in the OT; it was more even in the 2nd and 3rd. Great talent up front for Denfeld and Snyder was solid in net, but they'll need to break out better to have much of a chance in 7A. The young pieces for East have a lot of promise and if they progress well this team could be problematic in a thin 7AA. Really liked what I saw out of Winkler, Christian, and Peterson. Zarley Ziemski was out hurt for East, too.
- The Denfeld top line is a handful, and will create matchup problems for nearly everyone on their schedule, perhaps including Hermantown
- From what I saw, Kade Shea was the best player on the ice
- There are some good young players on both teams: Sam Kartch for Denfeld stood out, in addition to Peterson and Winkler for East
- East had two (legit) power plays in OT, adding to the drama; Denfeld survived the onslaught and almost sprang their forwards a few times

I just don't see Denfeld staying with Hermantown if they can't clamp down on the defensive end. If you allow that many shots from an average Duluth East team, how many do you think Hermantown is going to get? Plus, Hermantown has several players that can actually finish.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 1:11 pmI assume Karl was at the game, while I was just watching the stream and dividing my attention with the Delano game, so his observations carry more weight. I definitely agree. Denfeld needs to improve their defensive play, though it’s still only the first game in a weird season. The direction I was more going was that Denfeld should be able to score on anyone with that front line. But you don’t want to get into a track meet with Hermantown, that’s for sure.ironranger2 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 2:56 pmI just don't see Denfeld staying with Hermantown if they can't clamp down on the defensive end. Agree with all the above (and yes, I was there). I liked that Denfeld had Shea separated from the McClures; Hermantown will obviously have two potent lines and the Hunters won't be able to ride a single top line to death. The Denfeld D is certainly the area of concern there and they will need to find a style of play that lets their forwards be their creative selves without exposing the back end too much, because Hermantown would tear them apart if they play the way they did last night all year long.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 3:30 pmI definitely agree. All in all, two teams that could have very bright futures but are still works in progress to get over their respective humps.
