Re: Congrats girls
I am a fan of early signing. It is to bad to lose some of our best out east but they will represent! Many kids only list the U or UMD as schools they are interested in. There is so much more out there and hopefully more MN kids will look outside for DI options not just the WCHA. There are more opportunities out east that most kids have no idea about. The players and coaches need to connect better with those schools. It is backwords, I know but the work that they do for themsleves is more realistic than having a coach from Boston or Maine come and visit numerous times. It won't happen unless you were out at Placid let's say or something like that. Or are All state etc.

Kids need to do their homework. Coaches should email those teams or the player should BEFORE their senior season so those coaches can keep track of them and maybe visit.

There are many awesome DIII schools in the MIAC and Wisc. too. Keep your options open and contact many schools of ineterest.

Agreed!!!

Christina Lee Verbals to MSU-Mankato
As reported here:

<a href="http://p074.ezboard.com/fmnhsfrm7.showM ...

(just to keep all of the commitments/signings in one thread)

Don't forget D-III
Some info I pilfered from the USCHO D-III recruit thread, with some familiar names headed to "emerging" national powerhouse in NCAA division III, the Golden Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus...

Here is the Gusties incoming class:

Jessie Doig
Forward
New Prague, MN
New Prague HS

Stephanie Ubl
Defense
Coon Rapids, MN
UND (transfer)

Mari Gunderson
Forward
Shoreview,MN
Moundsview,HS

Jenny Pusch
Forward/Defense
Mpls,MN
Holy Angels HS

Marie Johnson
Forward
Shoreview, MN
Moundsview HS

Liz Haakenson
Defense
Moorhead,MN
Moorhead HS

Christine Wicker
Forward
Burnsville,MN
Apple Valley HS

Brigitte Bartholdi
Forward
Cloquet, MN
Cloquet HS

Sarah Heinbigner
Forward
Stillwater, MN
North St Paul HS

Allisa Trinkle
Forward
Lino Lakes, MN
Centennial HS

Amanda Rosequist
Goalie
Breck School, MN

I don't know how many, or if any here follow NCAA women's hockey. I wanted to "test the waters" so to speak to see if there would be any interest in a "where are they now" & "how are they doing" type thread (separate from this thread) for players continuing their hockey careers after their high school career has ended. Possibly posting tidbits / factoids / observations on the exploits of players during their collegiate careers...or maybe members favor sticking exclusively to the high school game. %-)

Anyway, back to these ladies and the Gusties. Last season GAC had a very successful season making the NCAA D-III Frozen Four field largely with a roster of players that would be familiar to most hear I would imagine. Adding the fine bunch of recruits listed above they look to continue to strongly contend for the NCAA D-III title again in 2005-06 and beyond.

For reference, the GAC 2004-05 roster:
<a href="http://www.uscho.com/rosters/?season=20 ...

Also, many fine former Minnesota HS players on NCHA rosters as well as the MIAC.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ookyone at: 8/16/05 6:49 pm

I don't know...

Large D-III Rosters
I don't know if this is true or not, but I suspect that there may be a sizable number of D-III athletes who decide not to compete somewhere in the course of their freshman year. While they have the same adjustment that D-I players do, they do not have the scholarship incentive to remain on the team. Maybe the coaches are planning for some attrition, with a target team size of 22-24.

August, the prefect month for such uninformed hypothesis ...

Large Rosters
Plus- just wait until December-January when you get the D-1 transfers, that for whatever reason decide that D-1 is not for them and still want to play. These kids usually get ice right away because they are in good shape.
The Tommies & the Gusties usually have the door open.
So yet another player will be sitting.

Christina Lee to MSU
Best wishes to Christina, one of the most exciting players in the state! I have watched you play for years and kept track of you in the papers. I am glad you are staying in the Western Conference. Best of luck to #10 in the coming year and years to come-I will continue to enjoy your exploits on the ice.

Re: Don't forget D-III
And what is the problem? When you are a top program everybody wants to be a part.....How many of the above mentioned were actually recruited?

problem
I have no problem. A lot of players would love to be on that list. Recruited or not. I also know some of those players are going to GAC for little to nothing a year. I'm not sure what the tuition is... $38,000 a year???? Yes, I know about financial aid. But under $5000 a year at one of the best liberal arts schools in the state /midwest???

Re: problem
I'd highly suggest that some of those players that are displaced seek out other MIAC schools. A few that come to mind are Hamline & St. Kate's - up and coming programs with great coaches.

Pezon to SCSU...

Spelling error though:

Huskies get another recruit for 2006-07
By Kevin Allenspach
kallenspach@stcloudtimes.com

The St. Cloud State women's hockey team is trying to get more offensive.

The Huskies, who scored the second fewest goals in the WCHA last season (a school-record worst of 63 in 35 games), on Saturday received a commitment from another recruit who can put the puck in the net.

Meghan Tezon, a 5-foot-6 forward from Eden Prairie High School, said she plans to join forward Holly Roberts and defender Kelly Meierhofer in the 2006-07 recruiting class. Tezon has been on the Eagles' varsity since she was a freshman. She scored 19 goals and had five assists her first year, 36 goals and 27 assists as a sophomore, and 44 goals and 40 assists last season.

In her career, Tezon has 171 points. Roberts has 319 points in three years — one at St. Cloud Tech and two at Warroad. Meierhofer, who is from Sauk Rapids, has 64 points during the past two years and is the top-scoring defender in the history of the Sauk Rapids-Sartell high school team.

"I got to be friends with Holly at a camp out in New York," Tezon said. "When I found out she was thinking about St. Cloud State and she found out I was, too, it was like 'I will (commit) if you will.' And she was like 'I will if you will.' "

Roberts committed to the Huskies last week, shortly after Meierhofer did so, giving St. Cloud State two local recruits for the first time.

Tezon will be familiar with at least one other future teammate, too. Eden Prairie forward Megan McCarthy is joining the program this season. She had 80 points as a senior with the Eagles.

"We each had to make our own decisions, but I remember saying how sweet it would be if we were teammates again," said Tezon, who also was recruited by Minnesota State-Mankato and Wisconsin.

Tezon, Roberts and Meierhofer plan to sign letters of intent in November. Until then, St. Cloud State coaches are prohibited from making public comment on recruits.
