One more
I probably should add that USA hockey is doing a Level 5 training this year. This is a little unusual as they typically only offer this every other year. It will be in Rochester NY, and they also have an amazing list of speakers.

<a href="http://www.usahockey.com/coaching/main_ ...

JJ - well said. Gotta love the doubters! I've even had a school admin. tell me I was unfit to coach, but you just laugh it off!

Of course, it helps to WIN some games too... Too bad we don't count moral victories or one-goal losses... I have to be the all-time leader in those catagories!

Do you have to complete each level individually? And generally where are the closest clinics?
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Re:
I would suggest doing each one, but you can go straight to 3 by attending the Coaches Assn. Fall Clinic I beleive as a HS coach. from there , you'll have to take Level 4 in the region, and then 5 is usually a trip for us as the closest it usually gets to MN is Michigan unfortunately. I'm only a Level 4 as a result of this. Just can't find the time to get my 5 if I have to fly and miss work to do it.

Re: Background Checks
Are background checks a customary part of getting a coaching position? As with any job, there are always those questions on the application regarding "criminal" background etc. but I wondered if the process was "tougher" because kids, particularly girls, are involved? One can never be too careful these days when we put our kids, girls or boys, in the hands of others.

Re: Background Checks
We run background checks on anyone that will be in any contact with the kids - pd/volunteer/etc. It's what's best.
