Yes, you are correct Rat did have the winner mixed up in the B'ville/Cent game, but he did have the score right. He also called all the other games real real close to right on. Being that you have been following along lately you can see that how he picked those games was nothing short of amazing, considering the other predictions. Just with all the banter back and forth - I just try to give credit where credit is due.

Oh ... and .... Obsessed isn't even close .... I don't think they have a word for the "illness" that I have when it comes to Hockey.

Let's put it this way. Yesterday alone. I got off of work at 5 ... was in Wayzata at 6 to watch 1 and 1/3rd games before driving back to SLP for a practice for my team at 8:30, right after that drove to St. Paul to play a mens league game at 10:30 and got home about 12:15am. Back to work at 8am this morning. I'll do the exact same thing again on Wednesday. Needless to say my girlfriend is getting sick of my hockey schedule and can't wait for this season to be over. I must say that I am very sadened that the season is coming to an end. That is one thing we differ on greatly.

Cheesy predictions...

Post by RinkRat22 »

I appreciate the vote of confidence, SLPer, I hit the Tri-fecta and am treating you to that dinner after all! No really, I guess I missed some pretty good hockey (gotta keep good with Mrs Rat, you know) I am happy to hear how competitive the first 4 games were. I will be in attendance on Wednesday for sure!

Congrats to Elks, EP Black, Titans & Bville for getting through in one try to the Region Tourney. From all reports ya'll played tough tight games. I am especially impressed with Tartan. You little guys must have beaten Red at their own game -scoring and that is what wins games! that and good Dzone, but that's for another string.

Impressive come-back win by Bville, too! You must have rebounded and had a few guys step up and fill the gaps for the 4 that are out. My apologies for counting you out too soon, you are a quality squad and that #11 (along with #7 from Rville) should be considered the best at this level. Good luck at Regions.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... nkRat22 at: 2/24/04 12:50 pm

From Webster's 19th Edition: ob sess vt. 1. to haunt or trouble in mind; preoccupy
ob ses' sion n. 1. a being obsessed 2. an idea, desire, etc. that obsesses one.

This Rat has to say that I take that as a compliment if some 48 year-old calls me "obsessed" with the game of hockey. I guess I could be one of those people who have no soul and isn't passionate about anything. Thank you Mr. %%WORD52%56 (I assume that is your handle) I will wear that badge with honor as I continue to teach this generation respect for the greatest game in the world!

No need to apologize. We were short four skaters. Anytime a team is short four guys it is easy to pick against them. You are correct, we did have some guys step up. I am most proud of our goalie. Even though he let in 5 goals he really made some key saves in all of the overtimes.

I do have to say I am most impressed with the Tiny Titans. They really played well yesterday. I can't wait to see the Tartan v EP Black showdown in Regions.

BVILLE

I am sure this was just an over sight, you guys will need to win 3 games to get to Regions after you loss last night. Not that you won't but just a clarification. Good luck Raiders! An oh BTW, Edina will prevail over a deflated EP Red squad.
(The Rat is getting even more bold)

Hockey dads are everywhere

Post by hockeydad1956 »

I have a 2 sons and 2 daughters, the oldest just turned 24, the youngest will be 13 shortly. All four have played hockey, I reckon I have been dragging kids to and from rinks for about 18 years. Friends cross the street rather than talking to me during the winter, how my kids' seasons are going is often the topic of conversation. My sons and daughters have found themselves in key roles on the teams they have played. Hockey has taught them confidence, leadership, commitment and teamwork. I heard tell of a support group for ex-hockey parents, they might have to call for an intervention to get me there.

I don't mean anything negitive by correcting Mr. Rat or Mr. SLP. We just hate to be doubted and have enjoyed letting the results speak for themselves this season.

Oh ya.......... #11 is a very good player, so is #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #12, #13, #14, #15, #16, #17, #19 and #30.

Best player????

Post by hockeydad1956 »

Wow

They say that stats speak for themselves, #4 is leading the team in goals, #4 is leading the team in game winning goals, #4 is only outdone in his plus/minus stat by #11. #11 is a hell of a skater and very selfless, he has a hell of a slapshot from the point (but rarely finds the net or even the goalie). If I could take #11 skating and stick skills, put them together with #4's accuracy.

#4 is my son, so I have to suggest you ask the coach who is the best player.

Bville

Honestly I dont care who the top player is...I saw elevn or so guys put their heart and soul into a game of six or seven periods. Probably one of the best hockey games i have ever seen by a goalie in my hockey watching days. In the second overtime I counted the shots on one of my good friends, he had 11 saves in that OT, bville had three shots in the first two. HE HELD THEM IN IT! an ex defensmen from squirts and peewees dominated the game last night. In talking to two of the kids that were out for the gme last night, they felt that there was a clear leader on the team but that everyone brought something unique to this Bville team. I agree. I have played with atleast seven of the players on that team, I grew up with them. Most from Bville, I lived there for a while, and it feels great to see them succeed. If you were there last night, you felt like you were apart of both teams. Greatest game i have ever been present for, NOT EVEN A QUESTION!!!
rave35

I apologize to the rest of you who are tired of this - 'cause I know I am! This is a forum for discussion about teams, players even coaches. And this string is to speak about the MHL playoffs. OK! OK! OK! your son and the other Bville players are just as good. Sorry for offending you, Mr. Man. I thought my opinion counted too. I am done with this dribble.
oh yeah, Bville Rocks and everyone else is diseased..<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Can someone tell me about Wednesday's games?? RAT

Post by rave35 »

Rat i can tell you that you missed a bunch of great hockey. WBLO and EP black went down to the wire as well. WBLO and EP were tied heading into what was the final stretch. seven minutes to go and #12 on WBLO threw an elbow and was called for what i was told an intent to injure, 5 min. major. with about 30 sec on the penalty left EP put the game winner in. Great game to watch, however It would have been better on the small rink. Too much open ice made it seem slow, even though it wasnt. 4-3 EP.

rave35

First of all, Rave35 and your buddies at the game last night - it was nice to meet you guys. You are very nice kids with great attitudes. It was a pleasue speaking with you guys.

Second - I don't care who the hell our best player is. To tell you the truth, I look at our best players as the ones that work the hardest. I don't care about goals, plus-minus or anything else. Sure that's nice but if we have guys who aren't working hard it doesn't matter. The bottom line is hard work. I'd rather talk about "TEAM" instead of individuals.

And Rat, don't think I'm sitting here building up Burnsville. I take it as it is. I hope you didn't get the "Bville Rocks and everyone else is diseased" from me. I certainly do not think or act that way. I know you want to end the subject but I had to give my 2 cents.

BVILLE

Post by rave35 »

I agree with Bville as i posted before, a team wins a game, not a #4 or a #11. I dont care what nuber is who, they won as a team.
Bville coach is good to see you again, hopefully we will see you guys in our corner on wednesday.
RAT, they have a team full of workers, I know well more than i mentioned before, i played with them, and to be honest there is not one player that i know on that team who didnt or wouldnt give ( for those who were benched aka goalies or suspended) there heart and soul, they are what a genuine team is. A TEAM. We can only hope that we come out and play with as much heart on wednesday and so should every other team that has games left in MHL playoffs. Great coaching between the second and third as well Bville Coach whatever you said lit a fire under their butts. AS well as CG guys team, great come back and hope you guys can finish the next one off. Good Luck!
rave35

Wednesday's Games

Post by MNHockeyObserver »

#11 is the best player, by the way. {Don't ask me to compare 4 and 11, I don't have that kind of time.}

Not sure where my love is from SLiPper, but I was 3 of 4 picking Monday's games. I was, however, way off on the goaltening by Red. Tartan impresses and advances. Tartan two missing games in league turn out to be their back-to-back playoff games. Ironic, eh?

G1 - Minnetonka is a little shorthanded with guys out and it will show. Rville will not get their two horses back yet, but will get solid goaltending (especially down low). Tonka struggles to mount offense and Rville makes the most of a couple Skipper mistakes. Roseville advances, Tonka golfs.

G2 - Edina has had some time off and Red has been running in circles. Trouble in Prairie City. Red will come out early and get a lead, but Edina will finally wake up and make a game of it. In the end, Edina will take a bad penalty nulifying their chance to upend Red. Red advances, Edina golfs at really nice courses.

G3 - Orange will come out angry as they feel they let one slip on Monday. This game will quickly breakdown and be penalty filled as RAVE zeroes in on one player. RAVEs first playoff game will include stellar goaltending, but the silliness will get the best of everyone and Orange Bear Lake will advance, RAVE will golf at courses in many different cities.

G4 - Black Bear Lake has been playing better hockey late in the year and Centennial is off a heartbreaker on Monday. Centennial will start slowly as Black Bear Lake doesn't threaten much and in the end Centennial will take out its frustrations on the Bears. Cougars adavnce, Bears hybernate for the summer.

D8 (what a screwed up bracket)
IG1 (important game 1) - Hastings has no problems with IGH. I hate to say it, but IGH runs into a "freighttrain" in Hastings. That's double-pun, damnit! Hastings advances, IGH goes to the back door.

IG2 - Sounds like RochRed is playing well and getting some goaltending, but SSP is on mission. SSP advances, RochRed goes to the back door.

Anything I forgot?

Rat predictions tomorrow

Post by RinkRat22 »

I will say that I am a proponent of "team before all" regardless the city you play for. I would trust that anyone reading the Rat's posts and understanding hockey's depth would figure out that I will never say that a one-man team will win it. Never happens (just ask EP's HS team) Cheap shot - I know. I liked what I saw out of a player on Bville.

Mr. 56er, your apology accepted - let's move forward.

Bville coach, you and I "bantered" last week about a certain game and I was just showing my appreciation for your squad's hard work - never got that impression form you!

Can I have my cheese now??

2/25 Predictions

Post by BVILLEJRGOLD »

First of all, Rave35 - I better not repeat what I said in the locker room last night in between the 2nd and 3rd. I could get in some serious trouble.

Good luck to your RAVE squad tomorrow. I'll be pulling for you!

2/25 GAMES

Roseville v Tonka
A short-handed Tonka squad will come out and try to play the body. The will be too tired and worn down. I think it is important for CoachGuy and his crew to not look at the past 7-1 win, that could get them into trouble. Make sure you take care of Tonka first. I think you are smart enough to know that. Roseville advances with a 5-2 win.

EP Red v Edina
There may be some issues internally with EP Red but I think they have what it takes to knock the Cake Eaters out of it. It will be a pretty good game but the Eagles with prevail 6-4.

WB Orange v RAVE - UPSET SPECIAL -
I think RAVE will come out flying. WB has been on the decline for the past couple of weeks. RAVE will play great defense in front of RAVE35 and pull out a squeeker
3-2.

Centennial v WB Black -
Don't look now but I saw a tall lankey kid limping around after our game with Centennial last night. I don't want to jump to conclusions but it could have been the "Big Ticket" #17. If he is out I don't like Centennials chances. They will be pissed but how will the channel their energy? I think Black suprises them. WB Black 4-3.

We'll see how we do with these picks. If we dont get ice tomorrow I'll see some of you there.

BVILLE

predictions

Post by hockeydad1956 »

In 1997 I had a weekend where I picked every NFL game 100% correct. I was not as flashy as you folks in making a play by play prediction. The next weekend I went under .500!!! That pretty much took care of any thoughts I had about being clairvoyant.

No Wonderboy picks here, Just want to say that the team that shows up and plays as a team should come out ahead. What I saw last night were 8 teams working hard and playing some great hockey. If they were not playing as a team they would not have been there last night. It made for a fun way to spend the night.

Ratt,

I had said only looks like two games becasue the "train" had said that Albert Lea might not even come up because they dont feel they earned that spot. And lets be honest...they went O-fer in D8 i believe.

either way, we have to play a short handed tonka team and a team we tied 2-2 regaurdless if it is edina or EP red.

And hey pops...everbody on this site borders on crazyness when it comes to their passion of hockey. We give up 4 months of our lives completely. So when we get home why not keep talking about it? Im cooko for co co puffs, and hockey.

Hey RAVE men. . . good luck tomorrow. Look out for that #8. He isnt afraid to take your head off, and try to goat you into a goonie type game. Keep your heads and dont give them oppertunities to get easy goals. We shut them out 2-0 and only had 5 shots. Take advantage of your oppertunities when you get them and play tough in your D end and you guys can do it.
