what part?
maybe the "major" upset part considering(if memory serves me right?) they've beaten 'em there 2 years in a row...

OR maybe because if my memory is correct Warroad and TRF are the only two teams they have a below .500 record against over the years.( I could be wrong)

Sectional Games:

1998 Lost to EGF 0-11
1999 Lost to EGF 1-7
2001 Lost to EGF 0-3
2006 Lost to EGF 0-7

Your team may beat or even tie them during the regular season but when it's time to play some real hockey they aren't so hot. I mean if you want to look at the regular season games then the Vikings should be in the NFC and AFC championship they destroyed the Chargers and The Giants. The regular season is just a tune up and the big 4 of Bemidji, EGF, TRF, and Warroad are the ONLY teams that will represent Section 8a at the state tournament this year.

I'm drop dead serious. Park Rapids doesn't play a tough enough schedule to win a section championship. They haven't played 3 high caliber teams all year but to win section 8a they need to play 3 in a row. You can use this as Bulletin board material all you want Park WILL NOT WIN SECTION 8a. it just isn't going to happen. Reaching the section finals is possible but highly unlikely.

I think TRF will handle PR rather easily next week.

I 2nd that, if PR makes through the 1st game it will be a major up-set.

How do you figure they'll be playing 3 tough games? IF, I'm saying if here, they end their season with 0-2 loses, they should be earning themselves at least the #3 seed. In that case, the first game wouldn't be so tough. Depending on all seedings, it is also possible their 2nd game be against a team they have previously beaten. Yes, beating Warroad would be an upset, even if they were undefeated to that point, but so was Holy Angels not making state last year, so anything's possible.

Also, I created this thread to discuss their season. Neither Bemidji (who has a losing record) nor Warroad is on their schedule.

The Only way they don't play a tough 1st game is if they are the #1 or #2 seed. Then they would being playing teams like RLF, Bagley, Hallock. If they are a #3 seed which I think is where they will finish they would be playing a team like CROX and Crookston isn't winning many games this year but they play a schedule that sets them up for section playoffs and Crox could easily pull of a upset.

The bottom five are (in no particular order) Bagley, Walker, Kittson Central, Red Lake Falls, LOW. So even if Park Rapids is the 4th seed They could play a team they have beaten already.

If they lose to TRF they may be the #5 seed.

If PR is the 4th seed they would get TRF or Bemidji in the Qfinal.

Right now I believe the coaches vote would go something like...
1. Warroad
2. EGF
3. Bemidji or PR
4. Bemidji or PR
5. TRF
6. Crookston
7. LOW
8. Hallock
9. RLF
10. Walker
11. Bagley

Hypothetical seeds
#1 Warroad
# 2 EGF
#3 Park
#4 Bemidji
#5 TRF
#6 CROX
# 7 LOW
#8 Kitt Cent.

# 3 park would play # 6 CROX
Not every team makes the section 8 tournament. those bottom teams have to play a play-in game.

Play in is as follows:
#11 @ #6
#10 @ #7
#9 @ #8

The #8 & #9 seed game is going to be a good one to watch. RLF and Kittson perhaps?

It depends on what teams show up to play I guess... I dont think there is a guarenteed win for any of the play in teams but at the same point in time there is a ton of parity from the top teams to the bottom teams. It will also depend on where certain teams are placed. I think RLF has a chance at making some noise if the goaltending comes around. They play a very physical game that may take some teams by suprise.

Pretty sure... 11 teams need to eliminate 3.
6,7&8 play 11,10&9.

Crookston vs Bagley
Crookston wins by the score of 11 to 6, according to a pretty good source.

Very good source? I am not so sure how happy certain coaches would be with allowing that many goals. I sure hope that all the play in games would be closer than a score like that...

Either way, I only see 2 teams coming out fo the play in games that could do something past that game, RLF and Kittson.

Shanty's post about 3 up fropm here.

RLF or Kittson at #8 against Warroad. No chance.
Crookston at #6 vs Park Rapids, Bemidji or TRF; perhaps.
LOW against EGF; uh nope.

Here's one from a better source. It wouldn't be that close. Not this year. 8)

Now that I've had a chance to digest this, I'd say the season comes down to just two unplayed contests

TRF @ PR 1/24: PR believes they'll be playing for the #2 on this evening, in actuality they'll be playing to hold onto the #3. They'd really have to throw the bolts to TRF and Crox to jump EGF.

KC @ Crox 1/24: A KC win entirely reshuffles #6-#9

EGF and TRF have yet to play but they'll splitsky and all will wash.
