I can't imagine they would put Hermantown back in 5A, especially with Ely possibly not fielding a team in the near future.
If the Hawks are in A, they need to be in 7A. Hopefully either common sense or overwhelming public shaming (see: STA a few years ago) will get them to finally opt up so they can be the best team in 7AA, not 7A.

Greenway was correctly seeded at 4. Head to head play is more important than anything when the rest of the record is not convincing. Btw, I used to be greenway1969 but screwed up my profile and password somehow so I created a new profile. Greenway did not lose their top defensemen but none the less a starter. They could move a forward, possibly the other LaDoux to defense. He has played defense in the past. We'll see what Coach Clafton decides.

I thought perhaps you were howardst reincarnated, but now I realize your posts are way too coherent and sensible to be howardst.
No Class A team can afford to lose a starting defenseman when it comes to facing Hermantown. They just bring waves and waves of pressure. Clafton had a formula that kept the Raiders right in that game until the end. I hope he has another trick up his sleeve to get them over the hump. (Assuming they take care of North Shore first.)
Best of luck to the Raiders. (Unless they face Hibbing, that is.)

Denfeld at 3 a joke? They beat greenway and played a tougher schedule then greenway did. I hope either the hunters , Greenway or Hibbing take down the hawks ! Time for a new school to go to state ! Hawks should be playing in the AA field !

Or if you are a conspiracy theorist: Perhaps the 7A coaches are so annoyed by Hermantown's sandbagging that they conspired to set up the seeds so that Hermantown would have to face the two teams with the best chance of pulling the upset, Greenway and Hibbing.

If anyone is to upset Hermantown I think Greenway is your best bet. Providing, of course, that Greenway gets by North Shore. Hermantown seems to control Perunovich well and I think Greenway's first line could score on Hermantown. I thought Virginia would be a difficult draw but they did not finish the season well, losing to Proctor and getting beaten badly by Hibbing. I'm hoping Hibbing gets to the finals but I have a bad feeling about their game with Denfeld. Hopefully the Twin Ports/Iron Range matchups go getter than I think.

Denfeld did a good job of playing a one goal game with GR (en made it 4-2) despite GR controlling the play. So the if Hibbing and Denfeld meet, I imagine the Hunters would head into the game full of confidence that they could win.
However, I think Virginia will pull the upset in the QF. They have been so close to knocking off some very good teams, and I feel they will go into the Denfeld game expecting to win. Should be a battle of two great goalies.
Has Greenway kept the top line together? I thought I saw a game or two where they split them up. Personally, I'd prefer to have one great line that can score on anybody instead of two pretty good lines that can score on most teams. I'd like to see Hibbing play their top three forwards on the same line and take advantage of the synergy that happens when you get that much skill together. The "balanced lines" philosophy didn't do much for Hibbing in their games vs GR or Hermantown, but it might be too late to make such a change now.

Clafton was experimenting. In the last North Shore game he split them up the first two periods, the score was tied. He put them back together and they scored three goals and pulled away 5-2. They were back together for the Johnson and River Lakes game. I think he's done experimenting and will see them together at Sections. Also, Greenway does not run up the score as much as one might think. In the River Lakes game he played the second and third lines more than the first line in the first period. He has also rested Mike LaDoux quite often, playing Joe LaDoux and the JV goalie Anick. Clafton demands that they play hard regardless of the score. He mixes up the lines once they are way ahead but I've seen him sit down anyone if they are not hustling, that includes members of the first line.

My earlier comments about section teams voting against Greenway for running up the score weren't intended to mean that Clafton purposefully pulls a Plante and tries to get his top line to finish off their hat tricks with 2 minutes left in a 9-0 game. I just meant that the other teams got beaten so badly by Greenway that their only avenue of revenge would be to stick it to them in the section voting. Poor choice of words on my part.
Greenway is a damn good team, so no reason they shouldn't be able to score 7+ goals against some of the weaker 7A teams by just rolling all three lines and all their D pairs. He's a smart coach, so I imagine he is getting his 3rd line and 3rd D pair as much ice time as possible so they can develop.
Would love to see the Raiders take their game up a notch in the playoffs and pull a huge upset.

Well, Hibbing won the Section 7A Sacrificial Lamb Cup by beating Denfeld 5-1 (en).
Hermantown is insane. That team is loaded and they never stop coming. Breck is the only team I can even fathom keeping it close with them.
Felt bad for Greenway to have their great season end like that, but they will be back and be even better next year. I would hope they have found some tougher opponents to put on their schedule. They and Hibbing need to get some more top teams on their schedule so that they can get more exposure to that level of play before playoffs next year. Both Greenway and Hibbing had the deer-in-the-headlights look against Hermantown these last two games. Maybe it won't help, but it couldn't hurt.

Greenway is definitely upgrading its schedule for next year. They will have Rapids and Duluth Marshall for sure. The "deer in the headlights" description was spot on. Tough way to end the season. Glad Hibbing made to the finals. They controlled the game. Perunovich looked like he was favoring a shoulder. Is he injured?

Perunovich was sick according to the Hibbing paper. I was wondering what was wrong with him I noticed a couple of times he would come off after a shift he would come back and just sit on the bench until his next shift.
