So, in the middle of hiring a staff, recruiting, moving into a huge new job, meeting hundreds of people the Coach has had time to sell tickets. Yes, that is correct. No, he didn't film a commercial or film a television spot.
He heard a guy with four season tickets was not sure about renewing for next year. What did he do? He got the guys cell phone number and called him. After convincing the ticket holder it really was him the ticket holder renewed, purchased two additional and the people with him in the car each purchased four for a total of 18 total tickets.
That's a story about Brewster from Gopherhole.com. It may be the fact that he is new and he is not Glen Mason, but I'm really starting to like this guy. He seems to make connections with people and that can only help the program.

Jackson goes into Thomas, Thomas with nowhere to go kicks it back out to Jackson, Jackson goes around a James' screen, drives the lane, leaves it for a wide open Jacobson on the wing, Jacobson nails the 18 footer. That extends the Gopher lead to double digits.
Oh those were the days.
This program is on the canvass and I don't know when they are going to get up. They haven't hit rock bottom yet either. Another big ten Wednesday and nobody cares.

Sadly, you're right. This team has nobody that can create their own offense, has one player(Mckenzie) who is a halfway decent shooter, and lacks an interior presence who strikes any fear in opponents. The Big 10 opening win over Purdue may be the only one they got this year, cause this team plain and simple is horrendous offensively.Irishmans Shanty wrote:Jackson goes into Thomas, Thomas with nowhere to go kicks it back out to Jackson, Jackson goes around a James' screen, drives the lane, leaves it for a wide open Jacobson on the wing, Jacobson nails the 18 footer. The future is no brighter. Monson failed to land elite players like Aldrich or Dahlman, and with the coaching situation in limbo, the top juniors in the state are jumping ship to Wisconsin. It's kind of like with the Gopher football program, the new b-ball coach needs to close the borders and keep some of the elite players in state along with finding some high-end players from elsewhere.
From what I hear the coach has to be on the good side of the guy who runs the Hopkins/AAU team or you're goig to have trouble recruiting top Miesota kids. I don't understand the whys and hows but from what I can tell he's the power broker in basketball around here.
On the flip side, of all the talent that has left Minnesota, not much of it has been all that good and a good chunk of it slithers their way back home at some point. Rivals.com lists the top 150 seniors and only 3 are from Minnesota and all are in the 6'10" range. You can't build a college team around a center anymore. None of the top 100 Juniors are Minnesotan, meaning sealing the border won't be enough.

By canning Harrick Georgia avoided much of the trouble Minnesota got into. Remember it was Harrick as a teacher that caused much of the problems in Athens where it was an entire athleic dept. at Minnesota that screwed up. Sure Clem pulled the strings, but others were equally at fault. When Harrick left they did lose a couple scholarships, but Minnesota was extremely limited in recruiting visits and contacts. Add to that Cheryl Littlejohn, and Lou Holtz not running the cleanest programs in the world and the U needed to be above squeky clean for many years.
Georgia was not up for the "death penalty" on the next severe violation, Minnesota was.

Tim Brewster's son Clint, a 4-star recruit who originally commited to Illinois, apparently has de-commited from the Illini and is coming to Minnesota. Hopefully he is the QB of the future, he is a highly touted prospect.

Amongst all this fine hockey, thankfully the Gopher Basketball season will come to a quiet end in Chicago early this afternoon. "The Season That Wasn't" will conclude with the "Big 10 Tournament That Wasn't". Mr. Molinari you came out of the bullpen for Danny Boy and kept taking the attendance, however, to no fault of your own, you will be elsewhere next year along with a good chunk of the roster.
To a an entirely new beginning!

Just when things were starting to look up , we have another rape case.
I dont know who if anyone is guilty.
The Duke case was a terrible injustice to a few young men but what in the Boof were they thinking, inviting a stripper to a team party.
Now these guys may not be guilty of anything but Ill bet no matter what the truth is, people will be scratching their heads asking why they put themselves in that position.
When will they ever learn.

Can we get 'em?Buckeyes, Cardinal recruit Minn.
Coaches from Ohio State were at Cretin-Derham Hall on Friday in pursuit of wide receiver Michael Floyd, who is the only Minnesotan the Buckeyes are recruiting this year. Meanwhile, Jim Harbaugh, the new coach at Stanford, is recruiting Raiders offensive lineman Joe Schafer. -St. Paul Pioneer Press

Gopher Baseball is going to the national tournament and to get to the World Series they will need to win a regional four team double elimination tournament and then win a best of three series against another regional champ.
San Diego Regional
1. San Diego St. (43-16)
2. Cal St. Fullerton (33-23)
3. Gophers (40-16)
4. Fresno St. (36-27)
Do they have any shot to get to the College World Series and furthermore would anyone care?
