Looks like the Luverne A Pee Wee team is pulling off a mini-hoosiers at the A Pee Wee Level. With 9 skaters and 1 goalie their A Pee Wee team (7th & 6th Graders) knocked off State ranked Mankato and Rochester will play for the Championship and right to get to the A Pee Wee State Tournament tomorrow.

Here is the link to the Youth Board thread on it: http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30710

Maybe this "Paco" coach person needs to be promoted to the High School Level. Also, was told by parents in the area at high school games that this year the top gun for Luverne at Pee Wees (Heard the kid is the REAL DEAL) was moved up to the Bantams this year and led them in scoring.
So their A Pee Wees are one game away for state without having their top gun all year..... Sounds like a lot of talent still coming up for them.

Just makes the need for some good high school coaching even more important. The current clowns will find a way to lose even with the furure looking bright. Sad to see... Bettman needs to apply! :D

Good Luck Marshall against Breck..... tough matchup but still be proud and hold your head high making it to the tourney is such a special time in these young mens life something they will never forget!

What's wrong with the tournament is a few private schools that should be forced to play AA. New Ulm has only played one public school in 3 years at state. That one game against thief was a good game. If you make class A all public schools I think you would have more competitive games.

The Luverne Pee Wee A team lost to Sartell in the Championship game but beat Rochester again 7-2 this afternoon to earn a trip to state. Coach Brown (High School coach) was given the game puck by the team. Thats a little weird that they would do that when everyone in Luverne wants the high school coaches thrown to the curb  3A you're an idiot.

Not sure where 3a gets his information or if he is just creating an issue that doesn't exist. Brown and other coaches work with the youth all summer long building skills, working on skating and doing drills. The community has gone crazy for hockey and attendance at summer ice is phenomenal. The only people that would complain about the coaches are most likely the ones who have students that aren't playing because they haven't put the time in and expect to play with little time investment, or the people that complain to complain. 3a once again has lost all credibility and attempts to destroy the reputation of coaches to boost his own lowly ego.
You are obviously a Marshall person. Probably a fan of the new coach? or the new coach himself? We will all be laughing as the Marshall program dwindles down to nothing next year.
I will be cheering for the Marshall players at state, because the HS students deserve that, but not 3a.

Looks like Hutch made A Bantam State and Luverne made A Pee Wee State. Good to see 3A teams at the youth competing at high levels and doing well. Hutch was really young at high school level add a good A Bantam group they look like a strong team next year.

New Sections come out on Sunday on the State High School League site..... I hope they keep things the same maybe add Mankato's and St Peter. Have to see.

One More Day Tigers then come the Mustangs!

I posted this on another thread, but here's a good story about Marshall's journey towards making state.
Will they be competitive? Likely not. However, just an appearance for a SW Conference school can have only positive implications for HS hockey in the area:

Regardless of the end result, what I see is against Breck is a Marshall team that is well-coached and has come in with a good game plan against a far more talented team.
Talk about the coach of Marshall being "bad" seems sour grapes to me.

Jeffpv .... I agree. They have put together about the only plan they could to have a 3 goal game against the #2 seed in the tourney at the end of 2 periods. How did section 3A do in the first round last year?

I can't remember, I'm pretty sure it was a blow-out, though. Obviously what Marshall now is doing is working far better!
That being said, I think Breck comes out angry and it ends up in the 6-1 or 7-1 range. Still, I am pleasantly surprised.

Good Job Marshall. Played Breck better then anyone would of expected!

I think we can see that Campion gave Marshall a chance and they limited the amount of pressure he received when it came to 2nd looks.

A #4 seed of the so called weakest section played Breck closer then most did this year.... Good Job Tigers!

Marshall vs Marshall tomorrow!

If Marshall plays like they did today, I could see them hanging with Duluth Marshall for a while. With today's effort: 4-1; with a let-down: 6-0.

Campion is a pretty nice goaltender. He definitely kept them in it. He stays square to the puck and makes himself big. Good glove hand, too.

Congrats to Marshall goalie on his hockey tournament saves record. Bettman must be proud.

Looks like Marshall couldn't break it out of the zone once again. Must be the great coaching they have up there. ](*,)

Campion makes section 3a look respectable, and nice that Marshall scored a couple goals.

Its official, Morris Benson, and Willmar have been added to 3A. New Ulm finally in the class their enrollment warrants.

How soon til New Ulm petitions the state and gets another enrollment waiver?

Being that the cutoff is 1247 an new ulms co-op is 1279; I'm sure they will get another petition since they draw 0 players from springfield or MVL.

Good move by the MSHSL to put Morris/Benson in the section since they were the only Southwest Conference team that was not in it. Willmar will also look to make the section a little more competitive hopefully. Teams like Luverne, Hutch, Litchfield, Marshall and New Ulm (if they stay in class A) will all still be viable competitors for the state tourney. I haven't heard to many good things about what Marshall has coming up from bantams, but they did make the tourney this year so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Teams like Windom maybe still have a fighting chance at it too.

Well the New Section 3A has been released:

My favorite as we head in for the spring/summer months
Hutch & New Ulm
New Ulm-
will get to come back to 3A as they are dropping schools their co-opt. They will return a ton of talent. Peterson Davis Helget are three big time players return a solid core of D players and a proven netminder.

Hutch- Will return the majority of their team from this year. They wil be led by Adams & Cowger. They have some good d-man returning. They always will bring in a nice core of A Bantam players who went made the A Bantam State Tournament. The big question mark will be in the net. The Allen kid was well dreadful maybe a Bantam kid coming up? Need to get that firgured out.

The Teams in the Hunt
Willmar, Marshall, LDC & Windom

Willmar-
New addition to 3A will bring a very solid club to play. Yes they did lose two great first line players in Seniors Schnieder & Streed but they return everyone else. They will be loaded with Seniors next season. Will be a tough game for everyone in this Section. Goaltending is a question mark here. However, these guys have great coaching!

Marshall- Defending Section Champs lose out on 10 Seniors (Many of which were their top guys). However, they return the Top Goalie in Section 3A Mason Campion will be a beast next year. He will make Marshall a tough game for anyone who plays them next year. Dont count Marshall out... Or maybe you should...They play better then.

LDC- lost a ton of seniors just like Marshall. However, they will be young but have a very solid goalie coming back in Wahl. Big kid fills the net much like Campion will be tough to be just the Tigers. They did lose thier top line and the majority of their depth and defense will need some young players to step up.

Windom- Coach Ammerman will get these guys to compete to night in and night out. He is a wonderful coach who gets the most out of his players. I look for him to rebuild around Bartosh & Neilsen. They will need a new netmider and some young bantams to fill in. However, Windom is always dangerous with Ammmerman at the Helm he does more with less all the time.

Best of the Rest-
Morris-Benson Area & Luverne

Morris Benson Area-
They lost a ton this season. They will need to get better tending and find a way to replace all the scoring they lost. I look for them to be tough at the end of the year. They are a juggarnut at home when you go up to their place anything can and will happen.

Luverne- Return some nice players and seem to have decent depth. However, we all know they will underachieve. They have what many consider the worst coaching in 3A (Which is sad). They will play run and gun no system hockey and get beat when it counts. They are not serious contenders next year.

The Bottom-
Redwood Valley, Fairmont, Worthington

None of these three will contend.

3A Power Rankings (Heading into the Off-season)
1. Hutch
2. New Ulm Area
3. Willmar
4. Marshall
5. LDC
6. Windom
7. Morris Benson Area
8. Luverne
9. Redwood Valley
10. Fairmont
11. Worthington

Should be another fun year next year. Glad the state let us have our own section down here. Its good for the game and growth of hockey. In this section everyone has a chance which makes it even that much more fun!

Hutch should be the favorite next year, the forwards will need to score, defense will be solid, and Buss is gone so goaltending will improve alot.

Marshall's HS goalie is awesome...but they do not have much coming up in the next few years from Bantams and Pee Wees. :( The parents and players are very nice and we have enjoyed playing them because of this, but not a lot of competition from these younger groups.

3a must be getting dementia. I actually used to enjoy his posts, but he is drinking some funny water in Marshall.

Marshall program is over and done. All they have left is a goalie and one good forward. Pathetic coaching. How does a team allow 60+ shots on them in the state tournament? and you all think the coaching is wonderful?

Luverne will be back stronger than ever next year. Summer ice, AAA teams, community support, large numbers, good athletes, commitment from parents. Marshall is done. Maybe their two good kids can move with Schaefer and enjoy their senior season somewhere else.

Hutch will be a contender.
Good for Morris to be added to the section. Not adding the Mankato teams makes it easier for Luverne.

Luverne and Hutch will be the two teams to watch...and possibly New Ulm.

I had heard a rumor that Campion was not coming back to Marshall during the year. However, the State Tourney run for Marshall seemed to smooth over things. He will be back and he will make Marshall tough night in and night out.

Top 2 Teams
Hutch and New Ulm

In the Hunt
Marshall, Willmar possibly LDC because of Wahl

These are your top 5 teams and seeds next year the rest will be anyones guess.

Willmar and Windom are very well coached
Marshall and LDC have great goaltending
Hutch and New Ulm have superior talent

Should be another very fun year in 3A!

Wouldn't be surprised if Marshall's goaltender is playing for East Ridge High School next year....
