This was an interesting year - Tartan played better than final record and was very competitive this year. From the games I saw Simley was the weakest team and really took a step backward as a program versus a year ago - hopefully one year correction. Richfield was more competitive and Mahtomedi is a young team who may surprise over the next couple of years. SSP, Sibley & NSP will be top challengers next year as they are very young and graduated few players.ghshockeyfan wrote:With the final scores in the Classic Sub this year ends up as:thshockey wrote:Tartan 3 Mahtomedi 2

Heck of a game last night. Irondale ran two lines all night long and dominated much of the game, but couldn't put anything behind the BSM goalie. Irondale scored shorthanded midway through the first and Benilde answered on that powerplay. Meghan Lorence had 3 breakaways in the 2nd period and failed to bury any of them. Irondale finally pounded home a rebound with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd and held on to tie for the North Suburban crown. I know these teams split this year, but Irondale was the better team last night. It's too bad, however, they can't run their 3rd and 4th lines at all against top competition. That will catch up to them.chickendance wrote:Irondale 2 BSM 1
A team which only has 2 lines can win. Look at CDH last year. They played 9. I think McDonald, Lorence, Bye etc. Could play full games. Of course I'm kidding but against better teams you have to shorten the bench a little. Usually you'll throw the 3rd line out twice a period in big games. Just not a regular shift. It's win time. Unfortunate but the truth.Sparlimb wrote:Heck of a game last night. Irondale ran two lines all night long and dominated much of the game, but couldn't put anything behind the BSM goalie. NSP and Tartan are taken up by juniors and i know Richfield only graduated one senior this year. The majority of these teams are young and should show some good talent next and the following years.

Just to be accurate, the GWG was no slam home of a rebound. It was a soft rebound off of a great stay with the puck play by McDonald. It was great effort on her part to reach to the puck to tap it behind the goalie, with both D on her. She never gave up on the puck.
I think Irondale is overplaying Lorence, and she is having to rest at times on the ice, in the defensive zone. That will cost them against the better teams they will face coming up.
It was a good game and hats off to Irondale to getting the conference title, good luck in Section play!

Just to be accurate, with the 2-1 win Irondale tied BSM for the North Suburban Conference title. BSM beat Irondale 2-0 the first time they played, and they finished with identical 13-1 records.chickendance wrote:It was a good game and hats off to Irondale to getting the conference title, good luck in Section play!

Nice game in BP...
North Metro & Mayo tied 1-1 w/ 7 minutes left, Mayo on PP, gave up a shorty, pretty effort and goal... you could see the wind go out at that moment...
Mayo gave up late PP goal & EN goal...
4-1 North Metro... congrats to Metro on a nice game, very good forecheck all night...
Good luck in Sections Mayo, learn from this one...
