FWIW I think all of this was very positive. There will always be some that are not happy. It's the majority that you need to worry about. And, as to the few younger or "JV" kids involved... Remember that these kids have the most room for growth and within reason should be allowed to participate. I often found that a few less skilled/younger kids that work hard help push those "better"/older kids...
