First time that I've paid attention and watched the draft and have a couple of "rookie" questions: have more MN high school players been drafted in the past or has the trend been to draft more from the other junior leagues and eastern prep schools? I was under the impression that the USHL has been a "younger" aged league but it seems by the draft pattern, that it leaned more towards the older aged players. Also, I noticed that there were atleast 20-25 players that already have college commitments - does the USHL take "credit" for these D1 commitments when they promote their players for moving on to D1 status or do they only promote those that receive D1 commitments during their play within the USHL? It was fun to watch though I was hoping to see more hs names that I was familar with - congratulations to those players who were drafted and good luck in try-outs!

When it comes to this dradt dont take it as set in stone that players will make their teams. Look back at past drafts and you will seee players taken high in rounds never made much of an ompact ot made the team they were drafted by.

Quite honestly this years future's draft is going to be much more important that the draft if you look at all the good young underclassman that are capable of playing at the junior level once then get old enough to play.

IMO I think a lot of this is done based upon those prospcets camps verus seeing kids play throughout the year so there are a lot of kids that went undrafted that I can see making a team based upon their camps tryouts. Just my opinons but based upon seeing a lot of players taken or not taken.

I noticed this trend too. It seems to me that with change to drafting like the Canadian Major Junior league and having "affiliated" lists, teams chose to go after older players - many with junior experience in other leagues (NAHL, EJHL, BCHL) to offset the relative inexperience that younger players bring to the table.

I have found that not only will the USHL take credit for the players who come to them with college commitments, most of the junior coaches will do everything they can to get into the heads of those committed players and convince them that they are not really that good and a 2nd year with that team would be in their best interest.

The Junior game is a business and what business wouldn't like to have the services of a very talent young player for 2 years instead of 1. In the Junior's coaches eye, the colleges can wait.
