behindthemask, well said but you left out the schools that go and recruit and still play A,, thats even a bigger joke in this picture, dont blame the players, for this section, it was not their fault, it is what it is ,and somebody will get the thrill of thier life, and probably blown out at the sametime, but 20 years from now they can tell thier kids that they made it to state.
behindthemask, RLStars gave this site, http://www.geocities.com/dent0110/2007willmar.html earlier, and you can substitute in other towns for that. you also mentioned conference even though the topic is sections, but i think worthington and luverne both had players close to where krogen was. i think one was a sophmore from worthington and a sophmore from luverne. im sure he will be a very good player this year though. also, i agree about the competetive section assignments, but there are some big problems in this area that make it very hard for these teams to be competetive state wide. instead of hiding from that problem i think it should be taken head on. easier said than done i know..

Thanks hero12. I know Luverne had a soph. that was pretty good. Phil Paquette, not sure if thats how you spell it. Last year I think he had like 25-30 goals in Luverne's 23 games. I'm sure that had to lead the SWC. He is also the tailback for the football team. I think Worthingtons best soph. from last year was probably their goalie. I think his last name is Swanson, maybe.

This could be more of a help. Just click on the team and shows there schedule for this year and also returning players with points. Looks like Krogen (Marshall) and Paquette (Luverne) were the two highest from just skimming through some of the section teams both at 35 points last season.

Willmar put a whoopin on Morris/Benson 9-2. Shots were 59 to 9IbleedOrange_07 wrote:krogen had a huge game agaisnt redwood already this year. 5 pts off a hat-trick and 2 assists. A couple of the young boys stepped up and looks like one of them had a goal in his first varsity game. looking for info about the other games in the section
Here is the stat sheet http://www.rinkwriter.com/willmar/willm ... _11_27.pdf
wow, morris-benson must be down this year? i remember them being a pretty tough team. also, congrats to krogen, but i've never really noticed him as a dominating players. plus, redwood isnt exactly a good test of how things will pan out. i can def. see some of the younger players from marshall being just as important to marshall's sucess

willmar has always been a pretty competitive team. the willmar marshall game should be a good contest when the time comes. sounds like both teams didn't really have a true test as they were both high scoring and one sided. even if sec 3a isn't "elite" which i beg to differ there will still be some good hockey being played.

Lookin at the stats from that Willmar-MBA game, two things that I notice.
1. These two teams are polar opposites of last year
2. Don't let MBA get on the powerplay. 50% on pp thats pretty good
I would also have to assume that blowing out MBA would be alot tougher than Redwood. No disrespect to Redwood, but I think MBA had pretty good year last year if I'm not mistaken.
Anyone have any stats on the Marshall-Redwood game. How did Redwood look in this game? Sometimes they show signs of improvement and then sometimes they look like Redwood.
Windom beat Fairmont 8-1 on Thurs. night. Windom looked pretty quick. I think Windoms only question will be their goaltending. Neither of their goalies have High School experience, but being thrown into the fire I think they will come along in good time.
When do Willmar and Marshall play? That should be a fun game to see.

yep unless New Ulm has a ton of injuries might as well consider them the one to beat, LDC 4, Willmar 1,,, Willmar looks like the same old undisciplined team as the last years, take penalties away from the puck , get scored on, and their power play is awfull, think they had 6-8 power plays and couldnt even muster a good scoring chance,, so we will see in feb, where things stack up , but right now its New Ulm

Well i would agree that New Ulm has played much tougher competition...I think everyone can agree with that...but all i was saying is that just because marshall hasnt played hard teams doesnt mean there not good...just have to wait and see until they play some higher competition...and see what happens.
NEW ULM — In New Ulm High School’s first three hockey games, they have played relatively penalty free and posted a 3-0 mark.
But Saturday night, the Eagles were whistled for 10 penalties as they fell to Albert Lea 5-3 in nonconference boys hockey play.
Cody Kohn, Sean Stewart and Beau Burgau scored the goals for New Ulm.
“I will not say that I am not disappointed by the loss but we are going to have some bumps in the road.,” New Ulm coach Erik Setterholm said. “This is one of those games that we can build on. We had more penalties tonight then we had in all three previous games combined. I knew that we were going to have a lot of penalties tonight.”
And there were a lot of penalties called not only on the Eagles but also for the Tigers who were also called for 10 penalties.
After a scoreless first period, both teams got on the board in the second period scoring short-handed goals.
Albert Lea’s Tyler Prihoda gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead before Kohn beat Tiger goalie Tyler Distad to give the Eagles some momentum.
But any momentum that New Ulm may have had on Kohn’s tying goal was lost quickly as the Tigers scored twice in just over a minute and a half to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back.
“I don’t think that we ever had momentum even after we tied the game,” Setterholm said. “We were a little different team tonight — we did not come to play.”
The Eagles cut the lead to 3-2 when Stewart scored the second short-handed goal of the game at the 13:57 mark of the third period.
Both teams exchanged goals with the Tigers’ Jordan Preschler-Smerud giving Albert Lea a 4-2 lead.
New Ulm pulled to within 4-3 on a power play goal from by Burgau with 37 seconds left in the game.
After winning the face-off, the Eagles pulled goalie Jordan Burkhart but Albert Lea’s Casey Woodside salted the game away with an open net goal 16 seconds later.
“This was a one-goal game that we will have to rebound from,” Setterholm said. “This was our fourth game this week and now we need to rest and get ready for Robbinsdale Cooper next Friday.”

Windom
Based on what I saw in the Mankato summer league, I can't believe that Marshall beat Windom.
Windom is a hard-hitting, strong team and Nick Eisenmenger is a great goal-scorer. He's one of the best players in southern Minnesota. What I saw from Marshall was a team that lost 12 seniors and was very much in a re-building mode. If they've come this far, I give them and thier coach credit.
What's going on out there Windom and Marshall fans?

You can't base anything off summer scrimmages. A lot of Marshall's top players aren't able to make the summer games with baseball and golf they were really short handed all summer playing with a lot of freshman and sophomores. I'm not sure who that Eisenmenger is and didn't notice him in the Marshall/Windom game but the Krogen-Ogdahl-Doom line is a tough one to stop for Marshall. Krogen has something like 18 points in 5 games and Ogdhal and Doom about 15 already
