The Eastsiders are currently ranked #10 in LPH polls. I too agree that they have yet to beat any quality competiton and the ranking is very questionable. The only logical answer could be their last 3 consecutive losses or the fact that the guy from GLS really runs the LPH polls. :P

Are you really a hockeyperson? While the team who is standing in the end is what matters most, rankings are used as a tool for scouting games and reconizing teams for performance ect. I bet if your team beat the #1 ranked team in the State it would mean nothing to you as well.

Just curious as to how Fergus Falls got ranked with a 6-14-2 record and ranked 30th in the QRF rankings. Rankings always manage to amaze me...

I bet what you're really wondering is how your Cardinals are ranked behind Breck. Am I right or am right?

It is almost too bad that many of the top 8 teams in both poles will be eliminated before the state tourney.

WELL SAID, I for one think that with the sport still in it's infancy stages, it would be best for the game if the top end teams had an equal chance to make it to big show. I don't think it's good for the sport that people who normally won't watch the sport will turn on the TV, and not see the best teams we have to offer. In AA alone 6 of the top 9 teams are divided into 2 sections, I think that is a disservice to the sport.

I guess you could say the winner of 2 & 4AA will be battle tested.

We had this same discussion last year, before the sections were realigned. I believe it was 6AA that was loaded with EP, Edina, Wayzata, Hopkins and BSM. Any of them would have been a fine representative at State.

If anything, the best Class AA teams this year are at least a LITTLE more spread out. Class A, however, is still VERY unbalanced.

Bemidji beats Cloquet 5 - 1.

So much for ratings.

The top team last year was who...
yes, Stillwater...
their toughest game last year at state...
that's right, in the quarter-final against Bemidji. :x

#7 AHA
two of their loses this year to Section 8 teams.

Again, so much for those ratings.

these rankings are a joke. Bemidji beats cloquet 5-1 and doesnt make the rankings. Alexandria beats Elk River 5-2 and they stay.

Rankings don't mean anything, especially at this time of the year! Play-offs are going and we will see who actually is #1 at the end of this season.

Good luck to the girls! Can't believe how fast the season went!

I'm not defending this or any other ranking, but a single game should not determine where a team gets ranked. During the season there are upsets, plus there are many games involving teams with similar abilities that could go either way. It's being able to win relatively consistently and against good teams that determine where teams should be ranked. In the case of Bemidji they are playing better lately but they've really struggled at times this year, so it makes sense that one nice win shouldn't vault them ahead of other teams that have been more consistent throughout the entire season. And Elk River has dropped quite a bit from where they were ranked earlier - they were 9th as late as Jan. 4th.

Bemidji also lost to unranked Moorhead. Alexandria is ranked top 5. You have to look at more than one game.

Ok, let's make them ranked 20. All in favor...there its fixed. Bemidji is hereby ranked 20

Now lets see if they can win the section.

Who uses rankings as a tool for scouting games? If a college coach needs to take a look at the LPH rankings to figure out what game to scout, he or she is in a lot of trouble.

And if you're worried/excited about anyone else scouting your daughter's games (like a AAA coach), I just feel sorry for you.

How can we be still having this discssion? Guess what. Teams that made it farther in the playoffs won't be ranked highly at the end of the year and teams that exited early will end up higher in the final poll. Happens every year. Who cares? It's playoff time folks!
