Why so bitter hwkfan? What's your deal? A little jealous maybe??hwkfan wrote:nope. didn't see the roseau/warroad game. i figured it would be a 10-0 blowout so i didnt schedule my night around it.
looking at warroads scores against some metro teams show they:
lost to mound 3-1
squeeked by orono 3-2 in ot
lost to osseo 3-1 at home
how good are they anyway? i see they are rolling over northern teams 6-0 and 6-2 every other night and must be ranked first in North Dakota after some impressive wins over grafton and fargo north.

I think hwkfan is Gardiner or Gardiner's old man. For some reason he's very bitter about Ness being good and wants everyone to say Gardiner is better because Ness plays against a few cupcakes during the season. It's actually kind of sad someone would be so passionate about something so meaningless.HockeyFan1 wrote:Why so bitter hwkfan? What's your deal? Schedule
I just can not understand the animosity towards Roseau because of their schedule. Someone made the comment that many teams could run the table with Roseau's schedule. Probably so, who cares. Roseau played pretty much the same schedule last year and things worked out fine. Hill who is rated high has lost to a team rated 44th, STA has lost to a team rated 41st. Minnetonka has lost to a team rated 19th and 24th. So it is difficult to go undefeated as these 3 have shown, losing to much lower ranked teams. The Rams are still perfect, but time will tell.

Let's get something straight here: Gardiner is still trying to learn how to play defense. He just started playing the position late last year. You might be able to argue that his offensive skills are comparable to Ness, but Gardiner is weak on defense. I'm not saying that he won't be great defensively, he simply needs more experience. I've seen both Ness and Gardiner play. Ness is better, he's the complete package. Ask Gardiner, he'll even tell you so.
i disagree nd mn. i think ness is better defensively. saying gardiner is 'weak' on defense is not accurate imo. tonka is giving up a goal and half a game against some good teams. hill murray did not generate a scoring chance against him. neither could duluth east. or rosemount. he controls games because he has the puck so much. with that he makes the best breakout passes i have seen in hs.
complete pkg? draft day will decide that one.
sorry for getting you northern boys so worked up. lets move on.

Agreed, Ness is fun to watch, but alot of good things are being said about Mr. Gardiner.
Top five reasons why Mr. Ness is taking a few body checks in the "bored."
1) Many people like to see the top dawg stumble. (N.E. Patriots anyone?)
2) Some cidiots, myself included, have seen some pretty darn good players not get the constant accolades that Aaron has garnered. The way that many talk, including Berg Renolz earlier in this thread, we are witnessing the second coming. Hey fellas, there’s been a ton of VERY talented players produced in this state and Ness is just one more that we can be proud of.
3) It has been a tad bit disgusting the amount of attention that Aaron has received in televised games. The Rams are very good TEAM and what the heck ever happened to the name on the front of the jersey being more important?
4) I don’t know if anyone else has this opinion, but I personally do not like the idea of encouraging young men to feel compelled to take two years of high school simultaneously. I believe it to be the wrong message to send to these student-athletes. If it was Aaron’s decision- so be it. But to reward Mr. Ness in such a public manner (all this Mr. Hockey talk) sets a precedent that I believe will be harmful. You never get your youth back nor can you relive un-experienced high school memories!
5) The Ram’s schedule is weak. Period. There’s an old adage in sports that to be the best you have to beat the best. Roseau has not been beating the best this year while some other teams have played much tougher competition and posted respectable records. It rubs against the grain to claim that one is the best when they’ve played cupcakes. (now before anyone claims that the Rams stay king of the mountain because of last year- is anyone seriously arguing that Grand Rapids is still #2 or Roch Century is still #3?. Teams change and while the guys in green may have stayed the same, others did not. They have gotten better. In some cases, much better.)

I think you are on to something. The ability to see things before they happen is a Jedi trait, and judging on how well Ness plays - I'd have to say that the "force" seems to be with him!black sheep wrote:Both great...the grass is green in both pastures.
I am not sure about Gardiner....but I am quite sure Ness has ESP, it is the only logical explanation why he can be places and see things before they happen.

I understand where people want to see Roseau come down to the cities and play the Minnetonka's and the Edina's every weekend, but that's just not going to happen. Roseau is +350 miles away from the twin cities. There closest AA competition is +150 miles away. Roseau has always made one or at max. two trips to the metro every year. Honestly, if Edina or Hill-Murray want to play Roseau they should get on their bus and come on up. Until then, Roseau is the defending state champions, have not lost a game this year, and Mike Lee is undefeated throughout his entire high-school carreer. They should be ranked #1 in state. Deal.

Oh yeah, we already sent Farmington up there and Blaine is on there way, so what do ya think of that? and for the record Kevin Gorg could be undefeated playing against roseaus schedule.61ache wrote:I understand where people want to see Roseau come down to the cities and play the Minnetonka's and the Edina's every weekend, but that's just not going to happen. Edina/Roseau used to exchange the trip in the early 80's.wingmaster wrote:Oh yeah, we already sent Farmington up there and Blaine is on there way, so what do ya think of that? and for the record Kevin Gorg could be undefeated playing against roseaus schedule.61ache wrote:I understand where people want to see Roseau come down to the cities and play the Minnetonka's and the Edina's every weekend, but that's just not going to happen. That makes no sense. How can you say one is better than the other when you just said you havn't even seen one play. I don't think anyone could really make a decision unless they've actually seen them both play.Indians forever wrote:I've seen Ness play and I haven't watched Gardiner Play yet. Accolades? Apparently it's a little more difficult for "cidiots" to swallow when a Northern boy gets the accolades - every year we hear about players down in the metro area are doing so well, and on and on.who_b_dat wrote:Top five reasons why Mr. Ness is taking a few body checks in the "bored."

When a player has the type of state tournament that Ness had last year, then continues to play at a high level this year, he's going to get mentioned from the media. Deal with it.....don't begrudge him, or the Rams because of it? Yes the name on the front of a jersey means a lot to every Ram player - Ness has been talked about ever since Squirts, that he's going to be something special.
Players like Aaron don't come along every day!
Roseau's schedule has been the same for several years - they get ranked accordingly. Beat the best? The "best" has not been beaten yet!
As for taking extra classes, would you prefer the players to leave early for juniors? Ness has proven himself since 9th grade - if college is where he wants to be, that's his choice, not yours.
And yes, when you are the defending state champs, bring back most of your returning team, a star defenseman, a star goalie, and tremendous forwards - you should be ranked # 1 - until you are knocked off.

The bias on northern vs citiot is strong this year. Other than a humorous read, this thread only proves what each of us already knew. That the other person is not being objective!
Ratings and rankings mean zippety-do-da. But people sure get whipped up about them.

1. Agree. I think it is a tendency in this country to "hate on" anybody who has "too much" success. Rather celebrate high achievers, it seems like a certain percentage of people want to hate on them.who_b_dat wrote:Top five reasons why Mr. Ness is taking a few body checks in the "bored."

2. I don't see Ness getting overly focused on when compared to some current/past players.
3. Roseau has had one televised game this season so its not as if we are getting constant doses of it. As a "city guy", I have stated before that I think that the cries of Ness getting "too much" publicity is ironic given that it is usually the northern MN kids that tend to fly under the publicity radar much more. Your comment about what "name" is more important on the jersey only really matters in regard to the guys on the ice. As long as Ness is a team guy (which he appears to be), I don't see the issue with the attention he gets from fans/media.
4. I never thought anything bad about student who graduated early so they could start college early. I saw them as ambitious and I think that is to be commended. Besides, Ness has a birthdate that is generally associated with kids in this year's senior class (May of 1990) so he is actually graduating at the same time as most people born at a similar time.
5. While the Rams haven't faced a tough schedule, I think it is safe to say that Ness has excelled against top flight competition in the past (whether on a national level, during the state tournament, etc) and his success is hardly a product of who he plays. He didn't get called up to the National Team this past fall for a few games because he showed his stuff against cream puffs.

you've got taht flipped around. ness is better defensively but, as 1 scout said, couldn't break rice paper with his shot. gardiner is still learning how to play defense, but is very good offensively because he was a forward his whole lifend mn hockey fan wrote:I have watched both but Gardiner is the better defenseman Ness is more of an Offence player.

Wow, enough already. Ness is probably one of the best high school players to come around lately. Let's not crown him Wayne Gretzky or Sid Crosby just yet. He's a junior that should be a senior, so by age definition, he should be a bit ahead developmentally. The fact that he's attempting to advance his career by taking extra schooling is admirable, but not heroic. Quite simply, he's a very good high school player, and an amazing prospect. Period. Enough hero worship. Enough's enough already. Good luck to him, as a Minnesotan, I'm pulling for him. The over abundance of praise and adulation is riduculous. Seriously, enough is enough. As good as he is right now, I've seen better than him come and go.
