Lakeville South a joke, but Cloquet is legit?

Section 1 did win two games last year at the tourney
Section 1 did break thru last season and win two games at the tourney.
3rd place finish was pretty good. I think that Lakeville South will represent our area well at the tourney. Good Goaltender solid D and relentless forwards like Bill Simon and Jake Binder will give Hill Murray all they can handle.
I think that it really doesn't matter what section you come from it is how you play at the tourney. If you are in awe and not ready to play your game you can get in trouble. A lot of the Metro Teams have been in the tourney before and thier school has a tradition of being there. Lakeville South is in for the first time and it is quite an accomplishment for the seniors as they were the first players to play at South and to go this far in a few short years is awesome.
Brandon Binder and Josh Hofstad are very solid defense and were stellar as sophomores for our Elite II team and have continued to get better each year.
I hope that all the South boys have great tourneys and get some real good opportunities to play on in college and juniors so I can keep seeing their hockey progress.
Good Luck

It doesnt mean much if a section is 'deep' if the representative gets beat up on every year like 1AA.
It does mean exactly that. 6AA, the section everyone assumes is one of, if not the toughest in the state with the huge schools like Eden Prairie, Wayzata, Minnetonka, etc. hasn't had a team finish in the top 3 since 1997. In the past 10 years any team from 5AA not named Holy Angels has a pitifull 4-9 record, including a 1-1 against 1AA teams.
As I pointed out 1 team from 5AA or 6AA has had any success the past 10 years, Holy Angels. Austin has the same winning% as Eden Prairie at the state tournamnet. BSM played the second worst schedule of any team in the AA field, 100% worse than Lakeville South, yet their coach has the nerve to complain about seedings? Given his sections record at the state tournament and his Gopheresque schedule he should be the last one to complain.
It matters where you're from, you're judged by that. 2 Class A teams had to beat 2 top 15 teams to make it to the state tournament. Guess who they are? Cathedral and Mankato West, West gets picked on because they beat nobody, funny they beat 2 teams higher ranked than Warroad or Marshall did to get to state. Who did Warroad beat all year? Moorhead, that's it, whom I've shown is comparable to Century. You get credit for beating Moorhead, why? because they're Moorhead not because of anything Moorhead did on the actual ice. West gets no credit for beating Century or Mayo even though what those teams did on the ice is comparable to what Moorhead did.
It is what it is, where you're from matters more so than how good or not so good your team may be. Century finished 3rd last year, HAL had them 23rd.
1AA is weak, but not much more so than 7AA or 8AA. Cloquet gets all this credit for beating Duluth East, why? Duluth East beat the 4 and 5 seeds in 1AA 3-0 and 3-2 respectively. Those aren't overly impressive wins. Roseau came out of a weak section, their only competition was Moorhead, a quick look shows Moorhead and 1AA's #4 seed had 3 common opponents, WBL, East, and Roseville. Guess what? the difference in scores are so similar it's scary: WBL 6 Moorhead 5, WBL 3 Century 1; East 5 Moorhead 3, East 3 Century 0; Roseville 3 Moorhead 0, Roseville 3 Century 0. Century was a 4 seed Moorhead was 2 seed.
The outstate sections are made up of a large number of schools that are at the bottom of the top 64 in terms of enrollment, either opt up or are co-ops. They're not consistantly going to have the depth that the large metro schools are. It is what it is. People get upset when metro schools are added to an outstate section to make a section tougher, and even then it usually doesn't make it that much more difficult. In 1AA the teams closest geographically are Hastings, Park, Sibley, Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eastview. Only 2 of those would have improved the section any and South would probably still be representing 1AA at state.
Why does Cloquet get credit for beating East? Try this...
East 1 Blaine 0
East 8 Centennial 2
East 4 Anoka 0
East 4 GR 2
Edina 3 East 1; shots 32-25 East
Minnetonka 3 East 2
None of the 1AA teams LVS beat come close to this kind of resume. Even if East seemed to struggle vs. Mayo, they outshot them 40-19. The scores may be closer than what they should have been, but the talent gap is large.

Rosemount? They were a top 10 team all year, resume? How about this..
Rosemount 3 Burnsville 1
Rosemount 8 AHA 7
Rosemount 6 Woodbury 5
Rosemount 4 Eastview 2
Rosemount 4 Jefferson 1
Rosemount 6 Century 0
Shots on goal in some cases can be very misleading. Mayo is often outshot by a hefty margain because it's their philosophy to take only quality shots. That's been their philosophy for years and they'll play even with teams and be outshot 2-1. The talent gap in that game wasn't large.

Plain and simple, if I were to put money on these two teams winning in the first round, I would put it on Cloquet. Cloquet's Jokinen was the most dominant player I saw all year, albeit it was against Buffalo...
People just haven't really heard much about Lakeville this year before they won their section, while Cloquet has atleast made some news throughout the season.
Besides Hill's not going to let another game like last year's against Century happen again. I got a feeling, though, that Edina might be overlooking Cloquet a bit, and even the semifinal game for that matter.
Still, I'm going to say that niether have much of a chance of winning in the first round although I think Cloquet has a better chance of winning consolation.
