Forest Lake should do well this year, don't know if they have what it takes but it would be great for the program if they made it to state!

Forest Lake had been doing very well in scrims. But on wed. they had cen. and St. thomas. Beat Cen. Lost by two or three to St. T. St. Thomas looked very good. Much better team. [right now anyway]

I am going to answer your question with more questions, since I have a lot of them about this game.

There are very different accounts of Rapids' win over Cloquet on Tuesday...are they really a dangerous team, or were they merely taking advantage of a weaker opponent?

How much will Flake miss Fick on defense in their first game without him?

Does Flake have the depth to match Rapids?

How ready are the GR sophomores to contribute in a big game?

Both goaltenders are pretty good; will one step up?

Flake has handled GR pretty well in recent years, including a blowout that I did not expect in last year's 7AA quarters...is there something to that, or is it a fluke?

Any East fan should be very, very interested in the outcome of this game.

F.L. looked good in all scrims. [except St. Thomas] We had trouble breaking out. Also had problems when St. Thomas practiced power play. You bring up a good point Defense are young. All Jrs. [One Sr.] Fick, Waldoch, And Suess will be missed. Should be a great early game. The kids played great vs Cennt. Played well aginst Prior Lake. I missed the scrim vs Park.

Paige Skoog was .822 in elite 2 this fall and DeGuisseppi was .905 in Elite 1. Edge in net goes to Grand Rapids. Of course DeGuisseppi has some demons to wrestle after the 6-0 playoff thrashing but he did not have a whole lot of effort out in front of him. Sould be a good game to take in. Forest Lake is highly touted in 7AA so pressure is on them with Rapids the underdog on this one. We will see who comes to battle hopefully both teams!!

This should be a great game. It's good for the state to have more teams like Forest Lake be competitive, especailly at the AA level. Whoever wins this game will move into early competition with East and Elk River (assuming those 2 teams are as good as advertised) for seeds 1-3.

Rapids comming off victory in first game must be the favorite. I hope the F.L. kids are ready to go. Goalies will be a big part, I agree. I like this section, Nobody gives them respect..

Forest Lake will be a very tough team to beat this season in 7AA. Forest Lake is my early pick for going to state in 2010-2011. This section will be pretty good this year and very tough in 2011- 2012 season
What's going on with Flake? They had a lot of preseason hype. Injuries, overrated, what's going on with this team that many had as #1 seed in 7AA?

How do you see 7AA stacking up?

My seeding as of 12/30
1. Duluth East- Only loses to Edina and Wayzata each by a goal. Otherwise wins over teams in the 15-30 ranking- White Bear, Moorhead, Centennial, Cloquet.
2. Grand Rapids-on the heals of East-playing well. Big win over Edina. Has an argument about being #1. Wins over Cloquet, Elk River and Flake at least lock them at #2. Tied Lakeville North and thumping by Eden Prairie this doesn't help. Decision game in Jan between East.
3. Elk River- very well could argue Cloquet at #3. Very tough schedule so far. Armstrong loss in opener doesn't look good. Wins over 15-30 teams-Centennial, Holy Angels. Other losses to Eden Prairie, Edina, Maple Grove, Grand Rapids, BSM. Played tight games with the exception on Eden Prairie. Only common opponent with Cloquet is Grand Rapids-Elk lose 3-1, Lumberjacks lose 4-1.
4. Cloquet-best wins over Flake and Bemidji. -loses to Grand Rapids, East and South St Paul
5. Forest Lake- win over Andover puts them here. Loses to Grand Rapids and Cloquet. Have not performed as expected. Very average schedule- only 2 wins against Park Cottage and Andover. Loses to Roseville and Hastings and ties to Stillwater and Moundsview.
6. Andover- somewhat a surprise. Loss of 15 seniors put this team in a rebuilding mode. Have 4 wins so far and played a good schedule with loses to East, Centennial, Maple Grove, Forest Lake and Bemidji. Strength of schedule has to give them the 6th spot over St. Francis and Cambridge.
7. St. Francis- head to head St. Francis beat Cambridge earlier this year. Nothing else matters
8. Cambridge

I think all that needs to be decided is who's going to 1 or 2 and who's 3 or 4. The rest looks in place already.

I like it. I think an argument could be made either way for the 1 seed. Also, 3 and 4 are very tight. It's too bad CEC and ER don't play each other in regular season, so common opponents will have to do. Anyways, the Grand Rapids/Duluth East game will decide the 1 and 2 seed. Rapids schedule is too easy for them to drop and they've already beaten 3-5. All I hope for is a East/Cloquet matchup in the semif-finals.
