GoldenBear wrote:no horse in the race; this topic should be done. I hope he scores 20 goals this weekend, the kid--he's a kid--has been vilified enough by people who don't have anything better to do. If it was as bad as some say/think, the Stillwater players will have 7 seasons to get SH back....but it sounds like a soccer penalty...very little contact and everyone going batsh*% about nothing. I really think its the posters here who have made it a mission to sound like experts on the matter. Good luck SH and all others this weekend at your respective state tournaments. GB
I can assure you that the Stillwater kids don't care or even know about this situation. This was not a issue between players or teams. The kid made a foolish mistake and the Ref saw him. The Stillwater kids had nothing to do with calling the penalty. They will certainly not be seeking any type of revenge. The question is, was there intent to injure or not? The Ref said there was and somehow it was overturned. I agree - let's just put this topic to bed.

Way too much energy focussed on a situation that most did not see first hand, and if they did, they probably did not get the whole story.

You have some people on these board ripping one of the greatest performances in HS tourney history (doesn't pass, floater yadda yadda yadda). Kid scores 5 goals in a game and critics still find something to complain about.

Given that context that some people just like to rip into talented kids (they all make mistakes), I would lock the thread and move on.

Quoted from East PeeWee's post (which started this thread):

"3rd period was CRAZY. about 8 min left OMG gets a break as the Stillwater goalie misplayed a dump in and scored. Stillwater comes back and scores on a shot from the circle off the OMG defenseman stick. With 3 min left OMG picks the pocket of the stillwater defenseman at the side of the net and scores. Stillwater back with a a score great move out of the corner 3-3 2 min left. Then stillwater pressuring again right off the faceoff and all 3 forwards get caught low and the puck pops out to the OMG stud defenseman and he takes it end to end and scores. 4 -3 1:30 left. Pulled goalie and an empty net goal, great game by both sides.

Then the unthinkable happens, the OMG scorer and a stillwater player cross in front of the stillwater bench the OMG player raises his elbow and hits the stillwater kid in the head putting him down then chirps at stillwater bench (as all the kids seem to do these days) and goes to fist bump his teamates. The hit was not viscious but definately happened and it was right in front of the ref. The ref was FURIOUS! He then called a game misconduct with intent to injure and now the OMG player is out for the first game of the state tourney".

I don't know if EPW's comment that the Ref was "furious" is accurate (as I wasn't at the game) but no Ref should ever become "furious".

So in the end...either the original penalty call didn't actually result in any type of (future) game suspension...or OMG quickly appealed the Ref's decision...and Minnesota Hockey quickly ruled in the players favor.

For those who have jumped on this thread and felt compelled to voice their displeasure over this outcome..you have a right to voice you're opinion...that's why this forum exists...me...I prefer to give a 13 year old kid the benefit of the doubt.

In any event...good luck to all the players at this weeks PeeWee A State tournament. It's an honor to play in this tourney (for all). Hopefully it's a great tournament and everyone has a great time in Alex!

That's the first explanation for what might have happened re: the decision. That's what I'm looking for. I haven't bad mouthed the kid, or talked about if he deserved it or not. I'm looking for answers about the reversal of the suspension. Read my first post, I said I have mixed emotions about this.

I said several times from my angle I wasn't sure it was warranted.

I can assure you the ref was FURIOUS. I saw that for sure. His face was red, his gestures were abrupt and very pointed toward the kid, and he was definately mad about the situation.

The only other question I indicated was, what type of research did they do to overturn this. It would be nice to know if they did some or not because if they didn't and relied on some letter written by OMG I believe that is a problem! I would hope they would have talke to the Stillwater coaches (very respected guys in Minnesota Hockey ... Sagissor and Bjugstad!) to see what they thought. I have no idea what they saw from the bench but it happend right in front of them. I also believe they needed to talk to the ref. If they did those things that would be appropriate!

Good Luck to OMG! The original message was about the impact this will have on the State tournament. I actually believe they will give PL all they can handle with their full team in tow!

I have seen all the the best teams this year and believe PL, OMG and LVS are the best with the next 6 to 8 all about equal (including those not there not in Alex...)

Minnesota Hockey is a laughing stock. MH Hockey says they are stiffening the rules, but NOT if your a star player or it's the state tournament. If it happens in Decemeber and it's a not a big tournament the kid is held accoutable for his actions.

I was not at this game and don't care who this kid is. RULES ARE RULES! Total Joke!!!

hockeymomma, did you have a rough night at Mystic

Calm down your top rated Lakers will be just fine. Don't worry Tony B will be rolling those 3 lines or should I say 1 1/2 lines to a win
