this was a great game to watch, lots of defense kept the big scorers in line. both goalies played well. the one goal may have not been pretty but in a game like that it's normally the only type of shot that goes in. it just wasn't wbl's night to win. i felt whoever won this one was going to be a fluke goal. and it was. game could have been tied at 0-0 for many overtimes.

I agree that Faust gives up too many rebounds. For the first period I was standing above the WBL goal and saw a lot of big rebounds but Hill wasn't able to capitalize because the WBL defense did a good job of tying up the Hill forwards. In the second period, Hill almost did score on a fat rebound. I had a real good view of the shot Hill scored on and it did look like it might have been over the net, but it was a wicked shot. If anyone can bounce back from something like that it should be Faust, he gave up a very weak goal in the section finals last year against Centennial and came back to play a fine game.

In regards to Grun's breakaway, it looked to me like there should have been a penalty on WBL. WBL's no.11 (who otherwise played a good game) wrapped his arms around a Hill player to keep him from getting the puck and then threw out the pass to Grun that led to the breakaway. <correction: according to the Strib it was Jim Kovacs who had the breakaway I'm referring to>

Hill's no.9 did play a good game, he made a few mistakes but was very poised. No.18 is a big kid with a lot of skill. I thought WBL's no.11 played well, he's a smaller defenseman but plays with a lot of energy. Hill did match up physically to WBL better than they have in the last few years and both looked like the top 5 teams I expected them to be.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >ChrisK at: 12/7/05 10:39 am

Unfortunately due to things out of my control I could not get to the game, so I was, unfortunately, subjected to watching it on TV.

First I want to congratulate Hill... It was a great defensive battle, and looked like a vivrant crowd! I think it says alot to the region and nation that we have great pride in our hockey programs!

Second I want to say to FSN network... maybe you should change your name to HMSN.... I consider myself very neutral... but my god... the announcers that did the game might as well been sitting on the Hill bench... It was very one sided announcing... and by the end I was quite tired of the one sidedness... I wish they could interject from both sides better and just annonce the game as it is!

Just my 2cents----

The Slinger

hill vs white bear

Post by Ibleedgreen »

the game was not what i expected from two top rated teams but it is early. i was surprised that white bear was not stronger (deeper) as i had expected. looked to me like both teams were pretty evenly matched and the game could have certainly gone either way. faust was typical faust in trying to make every save look bigger than it was. if he was taller he probably would have made the save on hoeffel's goal. instead he put it in reaching for a puck that was going over the net. seems fitting for a cocky kid like him to be questioned about his play which happened to decide the game. he did a nice job otherwise on the long range stuff but needs to control the rebounds. suprisingly white bear's defense was very suspect with questions surrounding the use of #24 and the gross overuse of #11. grun got wrapped up in running around trying to charge hill's undersized d which kept him from finding the net. on the flip side phillippi was outstanding in goal and showed alot of poise in net. hill played primarily 3 d and got away with it. they did get lucky at times but also did a good job clearing the zone in critical situations. pryor and danna saw very little action and garceau was invisible. thought mccallum played within his game and despite logging the majority of ice he never seemed to tire. joey mcenaney was the best i have ever seen him and was relentless in his forechecking and backchecking. hoeffel is a bonafide star and came through like one. 3-0 is a nice start for the pioneers who always seem to get better as the season progresses. they must guard against getting too high as it is only December. Will be very interesting to watch their development.

You can blame your goalie if you lose and your teams scores 4 or more goals. The only thing you can blame WBL for is not putting the puck in the net.
The curse lives on.....

hill vs white bear

great to see HS hockey on tv. Anyone know how the ratings were? i told all my friends to watch it and turned all the tvs in my house to it, because i want to be watchin hockey all year .

As for the game, i was surprised by WB's lack of depth, especially at forward. Also i thought they were poorly coached. Hill's breakout was very poor and though they had some talented D, it consisted of throwing the puck up ice or trying to hit a player at the far blue line for a breakaway. A simple wing trap would have bottled Hill up much more effectively for WB, instead of just letting their forwards loose in the zone. Hill seems deep offensively and played well without arrigoni. It'll be interesting to see how these two teams progress.

I believe that lack of penalies in this one actually hurt the overall flow of the game. It was 5-5 the whole game. Some
5-4 would have made it more exciting. wow, I was bored!

I was flipping channels for most of the game....can't miss My Name is Earl and The Office, ya know!?
