Obviously the big ice helps Edina with their speed. Yes, if you played on a smaller sheet they would still probably win/dominate. But one way to slow a team with speed down is to play physical, which would help on a smaller ice sheet.

On another note, BIG was thinking about making BIG 3 into a regular sheet, and put in varsity locker rooms. Last I heard, that idea was shut down.

I think EP, Wayzata, Tonka, Benilde and HF are very happy the past three years that they weren't in section 2.

Top Notch Post!

1) Yes, 2AA needs another team (only has 7)
2) Yes, 6AA is too strong.

Thing is, if you polled all the coaches in 6AA, they'd probably say 1) publicly, send one of the 6AA teams to 2AA, & 2) privately, they would probably rather be in 6AA than be the one team sent to 2AA.

There is a reason why Wayzata goes to state once every 50 years. They were in the same section as Edina for many years. GB

Rich Clarke had a great response, and just to back it up and compare 2AA and 6AA:
Burnsville beat EP and BSM, tied to Wayzata lost to Tonka
Prior Lake lost to EP and BSM by one but beat Tonka.

It's clear 6AA is deeper but the teams in 2AA are not pushovers. It would also help if Burnsville could hold onto their seniors. In my eyes they have been hurt the most by players leaving.

I also would not mind if they added EP or BSM to 2AA. If they do that I hope they move Burnsville or another competitive team to 1AA

As long as you're not Eagan, Eastview etc., who would no longer have to play St. Thomas. They apparently would just have to beat other middling teams.

What's really sad is when "the best" sit at home because they are placed in a section with other "best" teams, while in some sections a mediocre team can win state most years (remember section one before the recent Lakeville surge). The best should be at state, not bottled up in one or two sections.

What's interesting is that most tournaments seed teams top to bottom to ensure that the top teams have the easiest route to the final couple rounds. That way the fans get to see the best possible maych ups in theory. Some people on this board apparently would be far happier seeing more .500 teams in the final eight.

And if they did load Edina's section, all we'd hear is that Edina didn't have to beat any good teams at state.
