Re: transfers
Cretin should make it to state as long as those Cottage Grove boys don't mess it up for them.......

Re: transfers
how about matt beggs to apple valley...?

USHL Age Restrictions
The age requirements are still written in the USA Hockey handbook so I believe they are still in effect. Also, they implemented the futures draft last year because teams were not drafting U-18 players. I believe this is the last year of the futures draft.

beggs
Isn't Beggs the guy who transferred last year from Lakeville to Rosemount for his junior year? If he transferred again, he'd have to sit out half the varsity season...

UNLESS....

His family were to move their residence into the AVHS attendance area.

Don't you just love loopholes....

Re: beggs
Actually Beggs played the last 2 years at Rosemount as a transfer from Lakeville. I believe he actually lives within the Apple Valley boundary and will not have to sit out at all. I will be sad to see Beggs leave, but he may have been number 2 guy coming into the season this year. Percy was the main guy for Squirts, Pee Wees and Bantams and would have been the main guy at the High School if not for Beggs arrival. I know youth hockey does not always translate to High School, but that is the reality of the situation. Beggs had a fabulous sophmore year and a lack luster junior year while Perc didn't play much his soph year but had a solid junior year. So, Perc will be the guy. hey badman.... I dont think that darwitz will mess iit up for them.... hes a great defense... him and Ryan McDonagh should be a great pair...he should make them better.... who are you???

transfer
From what I understand, you are allowed only one free transfer without a change of residence, so if he transferred from Lakeville to Rosemount as a sophomore, wihtout moving, then he cannot transfer again, even if it is to the school where he should have been attending all along.

If he is planning on transferring, he better check the transfer rules before enrolling.

Re: transfer
I'm not sure of all the circumstances, but there's no way Beggs is transferring without being eligible to play hockey in his senior year. Maybe his family moved. There's a thread out there somewhere on what the rules are regarding transfers. I was under the same understanding that you just stated but was told by school administration that he would be eligible to play at Apple Valley on day one. I like the kid and his family so I hope they had it all set before the transfer or it's going to be a long last year of high school for him. Wish him luck

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... nhockey at: 7/19/05 9:30 am

Re: Transfer rules
Thanks neutralzonetrapper...good reference. Hockeydad you are correct Bylaw 111.00 of the MSHSL handbook clearly states that a student is allowed one "free" transfer and unless he moves his residence he would be ineligible for Varsity play for "EVERY" sport he wishes to participate for 50% of the games for a period of 365 days.

I've got to believe the Beggs family moved, or Matt would have to play JV and he's just not going to do that. Most HS programs discourage Seniors from playing on JV teams anyway (eventhough it is allowed).

Sooooo...like I said...good luck Matt and I hope you've crossed all your Ts.

Quote:
As an assistant at Rosemount, I will be sad to see Beggs leave, but realistically he was the number 2 guy coming into the season this year behind Percy

So you're telling us that Don was going to replace a 2-year starter who just competed in the national Select 17 tourney with a kid who went 2-4 last year, had an 86% saves percentage and (it would appear from looking at his stats) got pulled in two or three of the six games he had the decision in.

I doubt your post is just sour grapes. Since I'll make the assumption that Don has approved of you going public with this, there must have been some things that took place behind the scenes. Otherwise, telling this kid that he wouldn't be the starter in the coming season just doesn't make sense - at least to those of us not on the "inside" of your program.

Beggs
The Beggs family moved into the AV school boundaries before his sophomore year and he transferred to Rosemount. Now he is going to go to AV next year, which is the HS whose boundaries he lives in. I’m I correct in saying that he won't have to sit out any amount of time this winter?

I believe that the Beggs did move within the past 6 months and they are still in the Apple Valley boundries.

From what I have heard, Don just has a thing for Beggs and that is why he may transfer.

If that is the case, Apple Valley will benefit by having Beggs and Rosemount will no doubt suffer between the pipes.

Just because Perce (spelling) has been the guy from Squirts, Peewee's, the Bantam's doesn't mean that he is the top guy.

Anyways - I hope the best for Matt for he is a classy kid with a lot of potential!

Re: Beggs
My understanding from people in the Lakeville community is that Lakeville had a 7-9 junior high versus 6-8 middle school when the Beggs lived in Lakeville. When Beggs went to Rosemount, it was as a 10th grader and his 1st year of high school. He went to Lakeville as a 9th grader/junior high student.

This enrollment into Apple Valley would be considered his "1st" transfer. However, Puckhead63 is correct and the Beggs have lived and recently moved again inside of the Apple Valley high school boundaries. Because of this, this cannot be considered a "transfer"...he apparently is going to the school in the district his family resides in.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... erver85 at: 7/16/05 8:17 pm

The rule.....
19. TRANSFER RULE — A student of any grade level 7-12, who
disenrolls from one high school and enrolls in another high school
shall be ineligible to compete in any varsity sport for a period equal to 50% of the regular season contests scheduled in all activities for one (1) calendar year from the students first date of attendance in the new school, unless one of the conditions of the transfer rule AD have been met.

A transfer student is eligible for varsity competition if:
A. The student is enrolling in 9th grade for the first time.

B. The student transfers from one school district attendance area
to another during the same academic school year or during the
summer months preceding the start of an academic school year
in which there is a change of residence and occupancy in
Minnesota by the student's parents or legal guardians.

C. The student’s residence is changed pursuant to a child
protection order, placement in a foster home, or a juvenile
court disposition order.

D. The student was fully eligible and attending a Minnesota
school on the last day of the previous school year and enrolls
in and attends the new school on the first day of the school
year under the provisions of Minnesota state law. A student is
limited to one transfer under the provisions of this section
during the student’s high school career, grades 9 – 12.
CONTACT YOUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR for specific
information in this area. Transfer students are immediately
eligible for sophomore, B-squad or junior varsity athletic
competition.

The rule seems to not directly address this instance. From what I read in the last section, and from what I've understood, you are allowed one transfer in grades 9-12, unless a move corresponds with a change of residence. Since the first move was from Lakeville the Apple Valley, but he transferred from Lakeville to Rosemount, I would think that counts as his one transfer. Since the second move, goes from one house in the AV attendance area to another, I would think his transfer from Rosemount to AV is the second transfer.

However, the rules don't directly address this situation, so I'm not sure.

Beggs and the Apple Valley AD better make sure everything is in order before he plays in a varsity game, or we could have a situation similar to Duluth East last season. They should ask for a ruling from the MSHSL before the season starts.

Re: The rule.....
WE MOVED TO ROSEMOUNT DISTRICT FROM LAKEVILLE WE DID NOT TRANSFER. THEN WE MOVE TO APPLE VALLEY WHERE HE WAS PLAYING FOR ROSEMOUNT. SO WE HAVE TRANSFER ONLY ONCE.

Re: The rule.....
Hockeydad...your last paragraph struck a nerve...if I remember correctly, many years ago a very good Apple Valley team had to forfeit 8 or 10 games (maybe more) because of a transfer SNAFU. I think they actually made it through to the State tournament with a really misleading record. So I'm guessing AV learned from experience and has everything in order.
Do to a couple of nasty phone calls I have removed some of the original posting.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... nhockey at: 7/21/05 12:08 pm

The rule...
Sorry guys, but you aren't qualified to interpret the "Transfer Rule". That is ONLY for MSHSL trained professionals.

This one certainly can't be decided by lowly fans or coaches, and certainly not parents and player. Play for the school that you choose, that would be almost like freedom?

goaliemom33
If that's the case, then it sound like everything's in order. But like others have said, the rule is complicated, and you might want to make sure everything is in order. My own son missed four weeks of his senior season due to a violation, and I know it burned him up inside that he couldn't play. You might want to double check with the league office just to make sure. ADs have been known to make mistakes.

I'm not ripping on your kid for transferring, I'm just sounding the warning that it can't hurt to double check everything.

Good luck as an Eagle. Hope it works out.

Knowlze:
Well put...we lowly parents, players, and coaches can't possibly interpret the complex rules and regs of the High School league. We should just watch and enjoy.

Goaliemom33...best of luck to Matt and hope he finds what he's searching for...

I'll shut up now and enjoy the greatest game in the world. See you at the rink!!!!!!!

who will be transferring schools next year?
oldmanhockey,
Number 1, the fact that you are an assistant coach and you would pipe-up about the internal issues within your team truly amazes me. Does the head guy know you post? Number 2, I almost fell off my chair when you attempted to explain Percy's value over Begg's. For someone who claims to have some insight about the sport you kill your cause when you make these outlandish statements.

Re: who will be transferring schools next year?
For Hill, as of now it looks like Phillippi will be getting the job to start. He's really talented for his age and he has the ability to take his team to state. Last year it was to tough to rely on him as a freshman to help carry his team to state, just to tough.

Re: who will be transferring schools next year?
sickofnoknowledge21
After your post I had to go back and try to figure out what all the flap has been about my posts. Yes the MAN is aware that I post but I don't believe I have ever posted and made it sound like I was responding on an official basis...that is until you called me on my recent posts. I guess it does sound like more than my opinion. So let me be clear, my posts are just my opinion and are not the official position of the team, or anyone affiliated with the team. I don't believe I have disclosed any "internal" issues that have not been discussed by others on this very forum or in other public forums. I was just stating my opinion on the issues and will mind my p(s) and q(s) and eliminate any references to official positions or issues now and in the future. As far as my "insight" I make no claims...let's call it experience, not necessarily wisdom. Regards
