Looks like the Wayzata game is tomorrow (Tuesday) night, vs. Elk River. So if they meet tonight and decide this game won't have any impact on the 6AA seedings. I guess the only real question that remains is whether Wayzata or Hopkins gets seeded 4th.

The Wayzata-Hopkins quarterfinal will best the best quarterfinal matchup in the state IMO.

Totally agree. Hopkins is a very dangerous team with 4-5 top offensive players and a very good goalie. And with only one senior, next year they should be even better. I'm sure Wayzata would rather meet someone else in their first round game, especially having lost 0-3 the last time they played them.

Not that it matters much, but Hopkins got the No. 4 seed over Wayzata. Otherwise, no surprises:

From the Green Machine..................
Having just played them last week I would think that maybe Hopkins does not want to play Wayzata. They look really good right now all 3 lines and a great Goalie to go with a solid Def....So if you want to call it an upset I'm picking Wayzata 4-2.

I have to plug are game as well Edina VS Prior Lake, get there early....

1st round picks...the second round picks won't be so easy, lol...

8 Jefferson 3
#9 Chaska 2

#4 Hopkins 2
#5 Wayzata 4

#3 Benilde-St Margarets 6
# 6 Minnetonka 1

#2 Edina 6
#7 Prior Lake 1

By pointing out that Hopkins is dangerous I certainly didn't mean to imply that Wayzata is not! Wayzata certainly should be favored based on KRACH and other rankings, overall record and team depth. Both teams are excellent and it's a real shame that one of them has to lose in just the first round. In any other section two teams of this caliber are not playing each other this soon.

I see you picked the play-in game but not the real first round game between Jefferson/Chaska winner and Eden Prairie? Whichever one earns the "right" to advance their odds will be about as good as the 1980 USA Olympic Team vs. the Soviets - if either one were to upset EP you could call it a miracle.

Tough pill to swallow for Prior Lake with one of their best players on the other side of the ice.

Hopkins v. Wayzata should be a great game.

No problem, I know what you meant...The second round games are going to be great. This will more than likely be better hockey than we will see at the State tourney...What do you think????

I'm thinking the exact same thing, and for the semi's Parade may not be big enough.

Hopkins V Wayzata

Wayzata wins in 2nd OT with a PP goal 3-2, great game. Sad to see a good Hopkins team done in the first round.

I agree - that was one of the best girls high school hockey games you'll ever see. Too bad someone had to lose...

Hopkins gave it their all and had Wayzata on their heels in the 3rd period and the first overtime. Great comeback to score with less than a minute to go to send it into overtime. One penalty in the second O.T. was the difference - Wayzata made a great tip play on the power play to get the win. Just beforehand they had called a timeout and I'm wondering if this was a designed play? Sure looked like it...

Any word on Liz Orke? Wayzata could certainly use her when they play Eden Prairie on Wednesday.

This was a great game. It had it all. Pently shot, full on fights, good power plays, and great goaltending.

Too bad the reffs didn't let the girls play it out.

Shots were 42-37.

From what I heard she has a possible broken rib and they are checking out her spleen ect....She took a slap shot to the gut early on in the game and was knocked around pretty good after that...

I think they tried. Two obvious penalties, one on each team, were let go in O.T. The third one, an obvious (but probably unintentional) trip, had to be called. That turned out to be the difference.

With no horse in the race, I was at Parade to see a good game, which it was. Officiating was uneven, to put it politely. It was gratifying that the cheap play that resulted in penalties allowed Hopkins to tie the game in the first instance and caused Hopkins to lose the game in the second. The tripping penalty that lost Hopkins the game seemed unintentional, I agree, but the player had 3 or 4 previous penalties plus plenty that weren’t called. Same for the Wayzata player that allowed the game to be tied. I felt badly for the other players on both teams to have their hard work and fair play canceled by the actions of a few. Such is hockey.

The semi's are all set for Wednesday night at Parade:

5:30 pm - Wayzata vs. Eden Prairie
7:30 pm - Benilde-St. Margaret's vs. Edina

In terms of sectional play, it doesn't get any better than this!

Eden Prairie and Edina are the favorites - anyone want to predict any upsets or scores?

I'll go with EP 3, Wayzata 2.
And then BSM 4, Edina 3.

With 4 teams this good, the only prediction I will make is that it has the chance to be a LONG night!!! Good thing they're starting at 5:30!

All the people who complained about 6AA having too many good teams who all deserved to go to state better be at Parade on Wed. If they're not, they'll miss the best night of Girls' hockey of the whole year (including state) and they better never complain again.

I expect all of the complainers will be in attendance! And I will be too I'm sure. Should be fun trying to find a spot to park within a couple mile radius of the rink :)

If this were Girls HS soccer, you'd have to go to four different arenas to see these four teams play in Sections...or you could just go to the State HS soccer tournament. I am still waiting for someone to explain to me why EP, Edina and Wayzata are in different sections in Soccer, but not in Girls Hockey.

To start with, this is hockey, not soccer so do your comparison with the boys sections. The only difference I see is Wayzeta is in section 4AA. Edina, EP and Wayzeta have benn in the same section in girls hockey for as long as I can remember.
BSM plays in 5A in girls soccer.

BSM pays back Edina from a few weeks back. I just do not believe Edina can skate with BSM. Edina picked up two early goals in the first game on the PP and had to hang on to win it. I would bet that EP would rather face Edina than BSM. BSM has the team speed to match up with EP.
