Speaking on behalf of CoachGuy, I think what he meant was that for RAVE, tying BAA was the same as losing. For the record, the game ended in a tie.

Also a few quality teams in the Eden Prairie tournament this weekend. Both EP teams along with Edina, Centennial, Minne-titonka and Green Bay, WI. Could be a Sunday matchup of the EP teams as a preview of their league matchup on 2/19. Unless, of course, the Skippers can whip up on Packerland and take out one of the two EPs. I don't know which is in that half of the bracket.

SLP should be able to find their unknown victory in either the Edina game (border battle) or Centennial - a close loss in the Edina tournament could go the other way with a good effort by the whole team.

Post by RAVECOWBOY »

Wow we did not lose to BAA and yes that was possibly the worst game ever but minnetonka just lost to them as well and hey guess what...? WE JUST BEAT BOTH TARTAN AND ELK RIVER! I DON'T THINK IT IS POSSIBLE FOR BOTH GAMES TO BE A FLUKE SO YES WE DESERVE A RANKING IN THE TOP 1O!! ... and that that little rave acronym was wrong if we are so easy what happened to tartan and elk???? we will see all your so called ranked teams in the playoffs... good luck!

Tonka note...

Post by RinkRat22 »

.. since I was suggested to be a fan of the Skippers. I'd like to state for the record that Tonka beat BAA 7-1 in the Plymouth Tourney and then again 8-2 in MHL league play. The Skipps have yet to beat a Top 10 team therefore should NOT be in anyone's top 10 (excet their mother's) But please don't ever list Tonka with RAVE after you lose to BAA. Tonka beat RAVE handily 6-0. Thanks cowgirl.

i can at least see a point to raves top ten, but senorgold? First, Hastings is the best team in D8 hands down so far. They are undefeated in league play, but not good enough to be in your top ten eh? WBL black might have had some nice games lately but shouldnt be in the top 10, same with IGH, and EP black should be above Bville tartan and elk river. Do a little research before just posting a top ten. Where are Centennial and Roseville?
the thug

Ouch guys. . .

Just when i finally think the boys are gaining some respect, i come on to check that we (according to cowboy, and senorgold) arent even a top 10 or a top 13 team respectively.

We (IGH) dont deserve to be anywhere near the top 10. We have struggled this whole month with injuries and our play. Though our 5 loses have come to Tartan, Hastings twice, and SSP twice. We have tied Rochester Red 4-4 after being down 3-1 late in the game and beat SSP 3-1 but i dont think that gets us anywhere near the top 10. Plus we have not played up to par in our other games this month. Our best player has been out the last 6 games and it may be another week or so before he can play.

Jr Gold B Top 10

As of 1/27/04
SLP Coaches - Jr. Gold B Top 10
1. Rochester Red

Other receiving consideration:
Centennial, Edina, Minnetonka, RAVE, and WB-Black

This was a tough week for rankings, basically I have my top 3 and then everyone else is a jumbled mess between 4-15. But above is my best bet currently.

RAVE beating Tartan & Elk River is getting you close.
Roseville having a pretty long unbeaten streak is bumping you up and up. Plus you beat us by 5 goals, which is the most any team has beaten us by in league play.
Edina is playing very good hockey and coming on strong at the right time. Same goes for Minnetonka and WB-Black.

Hopefully this upcoming week can solidify some of these bubble teams.

Top 10

Post by BVILLEJRGOLD »

SLP -
I would have to say those are pretty good picks. In my opinion there is no clear cut number one team at this level. Which I think makes it interesting. Maybe when we played E.P. Red they were off but we beat them 3-1 in December. But that was also when we were ON. Tartan has showed flaws, Hastings is pretty good, but very beatable, SSP is strong but very beatable, in my opinion E.P. Blk moves the puck the best. They were probably the best team we have played. I can wait for playoffs. They are going to be great.

Hastings

Hastings lost last night to Rochester Red. I dont know the score though. That pretty much sets the top three seeds for D8 going into playoffs.

I'll top 10 you!!!

Post by Jaz9 »

And with his debut post, here is “jaz9” with “the Top 10 JGB teams”

1. EP Red- Appears to be the better of the EP teams, I believe that both deserve to be in the top 2. Having more players than any other association in the state helps a wee bit also.

2. EP Black- First reason stated above, also very well disciplined and coached.

3. Hastings- Only one loss in D-8 play and seems to handle most of the MHL teams that they face

4. WBL Orange- Struggling as of late, but, still has the talent, size, and speed to beat most teams, if not all, in the state.

5. SSP- Quality win over Hastings, Everything seems to be rolling right for the Packers.

6. Elk River- 17 league wins is pretty impressive, even if they are all at home with questionable officiating

7. Roseville- Unbeaten in their last 5, Goaltending seems to be picking up and all around team play (puck movement) is at its best so far this season.

8. Tartan- Losses against top teams keep pushing them down Could be higher if they were more disciplined, this includes their coach, sources tell me that he has been ejected 3 times this season

9. Rochester Red- Very good team speed, definitely a threat to any team they play

10. Centennial- Offensively, they can put it away, 106 goals in 17 games, but have yet to knock off a team above them in the standings.

Honorable Mention-
Burnsville- Slump hurts big time, but, still a threat,
Minnetonka- Need to knock off a top team to get up there
Edina- Well coached and work hard, not a team to be taken lightly

I have to agree...

Post by RinkRat22 »

...with that entry, Jazzy, I was going to post my T10 but I figure that was the best list yet. I have not seen any D8 teams but I understand that Hastings, Roch Red & SSP are the best 3 and you have them in there. I have not seen many post form you, Jazzy, but you're off to a great start!

There is a lot of hockey to be played yet, with Burnsville, EP Red & Edina having nearly half their schedules in from of them. It could be very interesting down the stretch...good luck to all teams in Tourneys this weekend and next! I understand that there is a wild one brewing in EP!

I usually agree with you, but I disagree about our "soft early schedule". We have played and beaten EP Red, Elk River, Roseville and Centennial. I'm not saying we should be in front of any of them but that is not "soft". That's two of your top three. If anything we are in the middle of "soft" schedule right now. After these softer games we play Tartan and WB Orange back to back in the middle of the month. All I'm saying is I've seen softer schedules than ours.

Just curious, are there a particular three that you think we will lose or will it just be any three?

bville

Rat, I really hate to disagree with you. (What a minute I love it)

But, out of contention is a bit of a overstatment.
Chaska, Brooklyn Park, Wayzata and SLP all maybe long shots at making the playoffs, but not out of contention.

Those you listed as Playoff contenders are all in place to be in the playoffs. Remember there are 12 teams that go. Your 4 "playoff teams" that you listed are currently in place to be on the road to the playoffs, but there really is quite a bit of league play left. Each team is still looking at about 7-9 league games left and as we have all seen .... anything can happen.

Post by RinkRat22 »

...Remember these are just my opinions...

The JGB Blaze will lose 3 - I have my opinion of the 3 (and you mentioned 2) There will be a 3rd. Prove me wrong. Your early #1 in LPH was premature, that is all, not to say that you don't have a very nice squad and haven't beaten good teams. You just got those better ones early.

SLP, no disrespect, you've got an under-achieving team that has to beat ER, EDINA, CEN, MV GRN. BP, EP RED, MV WHT, WESSY to have a prayer. You're not going to beat the teams in bold! Again, need to prove me wrong!
And Chaska, BP, & Wayzata are average teams with below average records and have to have a ton of help to make the top 12.

You are correct, 12 teams make the playoffs for the MHL and I believe they are: EP Red & Black, Tartan, ER, WB Orange, Centennial, Burnsville, Roseville, Tonka, RAVE, Edina, WB Black. And if Tonka, RAVE, Edina & WB Black begin to lose then 1 or 2 of the 4 you mentioned do have a chance. That's why we play these games. Perhaps the "Out of contention" tag is a little premature. I'll rephrase: how about "Hanging on by a thread"? Does that work??
