DE could've "easily" won state the last 5 years.

Does anyone really think the Jacks are going to beat ER? It's not a rivalry game... They only play well in those games.

I think Cloquet and Esse are going to give them everything they have. They have nothing to lose, and that's why I think they could possibly pull the upset.

. Think the elks might be ready for taking it this year. It will be tough east is well coached. Home ice and homer refs help give east that extra edge needed to get to Saint Paul
Not sure whether they were homer refs last year or not but that noncall on the checking from behind on Peterson last year (GR vs DE) was an absolute atrocity. I still taste that one in the back of my throat on rainy days. I don't care if they were from Duluth, Grand Rapids, or downtown Bethlehem, that was ridiculous!

Randolph is using excuse that Kolar was out during the ER game, and that they had Beaulieu playing forward and none of the lines were situated yet. And that East blew out GR in the middle of the year, while ER lost.

This ISNT coming from me. I still think DE deserves the 2, but I thought I would share what I heard from someone who is involved with the seeding.

Take it as you want.

I just hope that when they play the game with East that the Rapids team that played Hermantown shows up as opposed to the team that played East the first time. I think that if the "right" GR team shows up they will be able to get to state but if the "other" one does they will get sent packing early. The biggest difference that I saw was that the Hermantown Rapids team that played was shooting the puck when ever they could, passed the puck efficiently and were agressively working towards the net. The First East Rapids team (and a few times since then) seem to want to pass it around to set up that perfect shot on goal and then either lose it or get it put out of the zone and have to start over.

I think some people may be getting a little extreme in their predictions for the quarters. I don't see many upsets happening. If there is one, I have to think it would be Flake beating GR, but even that seems like a stretch. Probably a close game, but I see Avery getting the winner late. He's clutch, and won't let them lose the opening round. Other than that, Andover, ER and DE will handle their business and it should make for great semi games next weekend.

Actually they were the 3 seed in 07 and beat East in the semifinals 5-4 in OT. The last time I remember Rapids being a 4 seed they upset #1 Cloquet at the DECC 5-2 in 2003. I think Cloquet only had 3 losses that year and Rapids just got hot at the right time, I think Alex Goligoski had 4 pts. in that game.

You captured it well. The only thing I would add is that the Rapids team that plays tentative in its own end and on its heels while the puck gets passed around, is gonna lose. It doen't matter if its Forest Lake or East. The best defense is a good offense.

Speaking of attendance at the semi-finals I wonder how much of an impact the Bulldogs hosting North Dakota that weekend will have?

ER will beat Rapids 4-2 open net in the Finals in a battle of the top two goalies and avenge the early loss to the Halloween machine at the Edina tourney. Bank on it!..Sorry Houndaholics the path to the X will be easier for the #2 Elks as they would rather play a familiar Andover team they have played twice this year and who were just rolled by Blaine. vs. an up and down GR team who has the top goalie and can get hot and shut a team down to steal a game. Nice to see the elks back at state..

Forest Lake has a history of playing well and beating the Range teams (both Greenway and Rapids). If its the Rapids team that beat Hermantown that shows up they have a good shot at winning, anything less and Forest Lake will win. Rapids won the first game with Forest Lake with two power play goals. Lost count of how many odd-man rushes they gave up in that game. At least I'll get to see a AA playoff game. I'll miss seeing all the 2AA, 3AA, 4AA, and 6AA games. The week of semi-finals and finals was my favorite week of the season.

What? They'd play GR either way in your scenario.

If Randolph takes East to state again, he should win coach of the year for the second year. No doubt about it.

Or you know, maybe the guy who helped lead a 8 win Lakeville North team from a year ago and turned them around to have a 20 win season (I'm guessing their first 20 win season in the school's history) Not to mention a streak of 19 games without a loss.
You can disagree but I don't think the phrase "no doubt about it" can really apply here with North having the success they're having for this year

Interesting take from an East insider. :P It is high time to move the section 7AA semi and finals to the metro area. NO MORE HOME ICE FOR EAST!!!

Hey, TheInsider--when did you become an East insider? I wasn't aware you'd come over to the Dark Side.

East wins over Superior 7-0. Even though Superior isn't that good.... East played like a team tonight and completely dominated.
