Rochester Red is not clearly the best team out of Roch this season, they are certainly more consistent than Black, but when it comes to big games Black has competed better than Red. In the recent Bloomington tournament over christmas, Black outshot Jefferson but ended up losing 3-2. Black also played equally with EP Black, and lost 1-0. In another christmas tournament I believe Red lost to EP Red 4-0? As well as Wayzata Blue 4-2. Rochester Black took Wayz. Blue tied 1-1 until the last 5 minutes of the 3rd. Roch Black also beat Rochester Red 3-0. Black shows up in big games, Whereas Red is consistent. My guess is these two teams will be fighting for the 3rd spot from D8 to regionals at the end of the season.excoach wrote:So HockeyRocks, are you saying D8 isn't good hockey? I have seen some decent hockey in D8. Maybe they can't beat the top five or ten teams, but like the last post said, on any given day.....Other than Rochester Red, Hastings has played well lately as well. Lost one goal games to Eagan and Woodbury but it was very early in the season

Edina White did play well but EP Red has an incredible power play and scored 3 power play goals to win the game 4-2. Edina came out flying and looked to be the better team but could not keep it up for 3 periods. EP took over in the 3rd.
Edina Green beat EP Black 3-1 with an open net goal. Edina out played EP the first period, the 2nd period was even and the 3rd period clearly went to EP but they could not bury the puck. Edina was able to hold on as EP could not pull out the win in the 2nd game.
It was a good night of hockey at Braemar looks like the D6 playoffs will be a lot of close games...

I'm sorry I really can't offer you a very good analysis, I sent the kid with the coach tonight because I could not attend.D6 Guru wrote:How did Woodbury look tonight?
Can they hang with the D6 teams?
Second time this season Chaska has beaten Woodbury by the same score. I know Woodbury had 17 shots in the 3rd period and did not score. Sounded like Chaska started strong and finished slow and Woodbury finished well but could not score in the 3rd.
I hate to speculate, it could be that maybe Woodbury doesn't match up well with Chaska and of course it was a scrimmage so you one does not know if Woodbury was trying anything new.
I know Chaska is working on staying out of the sin bin and their penalty kill just in case in prep for EP red.
Two games against Edina Green and each game almost one entire period they play short handed- tough to beat good teams that way.
guess working on the special teams is all a team should work on based on inconsistencies of refereeing.

I agree with him. Let's not put the cart before the horse. D6 is probably the favorite to win state but arent we always talking about any team on any given day? Especially with how high (not me) everyone is on Elk River.
I just want to give props to the EP Red coaching staff. With the new rules changes they had the insight to perfect the PP. They move from an umbrella to a standard from shift to shift (within a single PP twice in the Edina Tournament that I saw) Its tough at BB1 to adjust to that.
They are the number 1 team in the state. They may not be the flashiest or strongest but they play as a TEAM. Besides that they have good coaching. When the games get big the White staff will lose their cool and the players will follow.

Now, for something totally new:
Hermantown is hosting their BB1 tournament this weekend and it looks lile a mini-D10 tourney with:
Centennial Black
Anoka
Champlin Park
Blaine
Princeton
Eagan
Hermantown
Lakeville South
If you monitor this BB1 post, please provide some weekend updates and analysis.

GR Tourney
The top of the bracket is pretty clear with Edina & WBL Black meeting in the semi's. Edina is probably the favorite, but Black should give them a good match.
The bottom of the bracket is very intiguing. I don't know much about Moorhead, but heard they struggled early on. I look for Tonka to pull this one out.
Duluth East and Maple Grove will be best opening game of the tourney. Wouldn't be surprised if this goes OT. Score will be low, someething like 2-1 or 3-2.
The semifinal on this side should be a barn burner. Tonka has played East twice, both 1 goal games, with each team winning once.
Personally, I would like to see a Tonka - Maple Grove semifinal matchup. These two teams have shown they can compete in D6 and D3.
How's that.

Turk - fbj123 asked the question on how we thought regions and state might move forward. I gave an opinion. You can disagree or say I was premature in making such a statement, but I was willing to make a prediction. It was not intended as an insult to Wayzata or Elk River (has been the best team we played against so far this year) If it adds fuel to the desire of Wayzata, then good, it will just make the games more entertaining. My prediction is based nothing more on seeing almost all the top 15 teams play. It is merely my best guess based on my hockey opinion .......and I'm a soccer guyTurk182 wrote:Re: tom=ss
That’s a pretty bold prediction that a D6 team WILL win state considering that the defending champs are still in the picture. I think it's save to say that the title will be up for grabs from either a D6, D3 or D10 team. How about we wait until judgment day before we crown the champion!!!
I can't wait to see EP red in a couple of weeks, wished Chaska played them more then once. Playing Waconia and Prior Lake twice helps out with points in D6 standings but does nothing for post season preparation.

It appears that Duluth East is playing in 2 tourneys this weekend. They are scheduled to play Maple Grove Saturday morning in the Grand Rapids Tourney and also are scheduled to play Wayzata Blue in the Superior tourney Friday night.
Anyone know anything about this? Are there any Duluth East reps that can confirm this? That would be an amazing feat. Do they have 2 B teams?
