I have a question--other than anonymously whining about this in an internet forum, what has anybody from Elk River, Andover, etc. (and it's been pretty much Elk River) done to change this? Anything? If the answer is "no", then their (your) right to complain is forfeited. Go back to wringing your hands.alcloseshaver wrote:"invalid" Spin doctoring. This comes up ever year, nearly always brought up by Jawbreak River fans, and nothing changes.
I have a better idea--move Elk River to another section. Maybe then they can go to state once in awhile. At least more than once in the ten years they have been in 7AA.

The Duluth tourism board is in bed with the schedulers. Ha.
I'd rather watch in game at Amsoil than almost any metro arena. Lots of fans turn out for section games at the Y in Andover? The "new" Princeton arena? ER? Where do you propose they move it?
Going to Duluth tourneys is a long time MN hockey tradition in most families. We all should be so lucky!
And to the East guys - don't they play mostly at Heritage? So it's not really home ice, just hometown ice. But you could argue that they draw a crowd wherever they play. Even those of us whose kids aren't their opponent oftentimes come out for Randolph's yearly East teams.

Yep leave us Duluth people alone. Don't take our obvious advantage away go to another section and quit stirring the pot . If the tide was turned you'd be making much more of this than the Elk River, Andover people, I'd love to see you guys driving into the metro area on a Thursday night. I bet you'd sit back and say nothing right? Hell no you'd be screaming. And what would you propose they do that they haven't to get this changed. I'm sure they'd love to alternate playing locations but Duluth has enjoyed this for so long it's tough to get this changed.east hockey wrote:I have a question--other than anonymously whining about this in an internet forum, what has anybody from Elk River, Andover, etc. (and it's been pretty much Elk River) done to change this? Whether it would be tough to get it changed or not is immaterial. There is no other venue in the section that compares to Amsoil. It's always parents and select fans who whine about this issue anyway. As this comes up every damn year, I ask for what seems like the 100th time what the players think about playing at Amsoil. Would they wish that the venue be changed to another? Highly doubt it, and they are ones who ultimately matter.sticksave wrote:Yep leave us Duluth people alone. "Hey boys would you rather play at home or drive 2 1/2 hours to play in some fancy arena????? Amzoil is nice but in no way out weighs the fact these kids want to get to the X and everything else is not material.
But you don't know what they'd say, do you? When I was a kid, section finals were held at Hibbing Memorial every year. That was the goal of a Range hockey player - to get to the Memorial Building. It's the finest hockey rink on the Range and that was all that mattered. Don't think it's that much different today. A kids always wants to play a game in a big-time venue and the drive is meaningless.sticksave wrote:

I'm sorry but these kids have already played in the best venues around. They've been at Mariucci, Little Ralph, Amzoil, mnmouth wrote:But you don't know what they'd say, do you? You really should read the thread about section tournament venues. There are a lot of people that think Mariucci is not a great venue. And, does Andover and Elk River play at Little Ralph? I don't think Duluth East has ever played there.sticksave wrote:I'm sorry but these kids have already played in the best venues around. No you should pay attention!!!!! Most of these kids play AAA hockey in the summer and have played in the arena's I mentioned. Good night Amzoil is nothing special. Many of these kids have played all through out Canada and Minnesota. Go back and check older posts, St. Cloud not an option. 7AA wants to stay in their admin region for sections.Tigers33 wrote:If the drive is meaningless then move the game to St. Cloud state. Most kids in the metro don't have a goal to play in duluths rink. And yes it is an advantage to play in your hometown.
St. Cloud makes the most sense. Do an every other year type of rotation.
You really are getting worked up. Believe me, it's not worth getting your blood pressure up. I admit, I don't know what these kids play outside of high school games. I'm only interested in high school hockey. I don't have a kid playing, I just like watching competitive play. I live in Rosemount myself and am planning to drive to Duluth to watch the 7AA final. I assume it will be more exciting than the 3AA final that night. I'm not complaining about the drive to Duluth, maybe you shouldn't either.sticksave wrote:No you should pay attention!!!!! Amsoil Arena is nothing special? It is stadium journey.com's #1 sports venue in North America at any level. I've been to quite a few stadiums in the last 5 years, Cleveland Browns Stadium '09 (Farve's first game), Centurylink Stadium two years ago, Honda Center in Anahiem, Staples Center in LA, and Safeco Field in Seattle. Those are all some of the best sports venues in the country. When you factor in how new Amsoil Arena is, the great design and it's proximity to downtown and the skyway system, Amsoil Arena is a grand slam (better than the pro venues I've been to)! In the skyway there are 2 coffee shops I can think of off the top of my head, the Greenery at the Holiday Inn and Starbucks, plus on Section Final night you have a number of places to get a beer, JJ Astor, Sneakers, the Curling Club Bar right next to the DECC. And if the weather is nice you have Canal Park right next to the arena. This year, we get the added bonus of the Bulldogs hosting North Dakota on Semi-Final weekend. I even talked with Derek Plante about UMD alternating with UND and the Gophers every year on Semi-Final Saturday and he LOVED the idea, so hopefully that will happen in the years to come. I understand it is a drive for the metro people, but a 2.5 hour drive really isn't that bad to go to such an awesome city and arena. Some people just need to change their viewpoint and look at all the positives of keeping the playoffs in Duluth.

I take that Back. It is a very Nice Arena. What I was trying to get across is these kids have played all over and as far as giving up an advantage to play there it is not that important to these kids. Many have been in some nice places. Getting to the X is what they want. Ask any of them, Your choice the X or the Amzoil. I't the X.TheHockeyDJ wrote:Amsoil Arena is nothing special? Slammer is right it's useless to get upset. It won't do any good. I shouldn't have jumped on this topic so hard. It's just a game right. It is what it is. Everyone should just go there to have a good time.

DE could've "easily" won state the last 5 years.

Saint Cloud is an option they are just choosing to not play it there. Why not have section 7 and 8 do the same thing section 2 and 6 do.
Girls hockey - section 6 plays all games at parade. Not in their admin region.
Section 5 plays all games at Roseville which isn't in admin region.
So why does boys have to be different.
