NSP got a little scare from St. Paul Central today. Down 5-2 in bottom of 6th with 2 outs, Matt Puhl hits a 3 run shot and get another run to gain a 7-5 win. Highland Park was the only road team to win today with a 4-0 shutout of Roseville. Friday's matuchps show Highland Park vs. Tartan @ NSP, Mahtomedi @ Stillwater, North St. Paul @ Woodbury & Hill Murray @ Cretin Derham Hall. Should be a good day of baseball.

Went to this game. GR is a very nice club. Not their best effort, but I credit Cloquet for coming to play. Wood got knocked around a bit not having his best stuff, but he's a gamer. He changes speeds well and keeps the hitters off balance. Sam Sparen and Jack Moore were pretty impressive in my opinion, and the Hovet kid hit one a ton into the wind. Sounds like GR will be hosting the playoff tourney (or at least a portion of it) next Sat. at Legion. This is a team that when on could make a serious run.

I drove past Kuenkel Field over the weekend for the first time since the work on 36 finished... They thinned out a ton of the trees behind the fence. It looks empty there now. It's too bad - I always like how the trees were relatively deep back there, it always felt secluded even though you were right on the edge of a major highway.

A Forest Lake 14A baseball player was badly injured in a game earlier this week. His name is Derrick Eichinger and he was playing second base. While chasing down a pop fly he collided with the centerfielder and sustained a severe head injury. His skull was fractured and he has had at least two surgeries and they have placed plates in his head. His family is still waiting for him to wake up from a coma and I am sure they could use everyone's thoughts and prayers.

This is a link to his website if you would like more information.

Well Hill Murray pulled off an upset over Cretin. CDH is in the losers bracket now and have to win 7 straight in section play to get a chance to go back to the state tournament. Tartan may have an easy track to win 4AAA now.

Rochester Teams

Post by DmanDad1980 »

Update from Southern MN...

Watched Rochester JM play on Saturday, and they have an excellent club w/ power 1 thru 6 in the lineup, and good pitching. 5-0 & 19-1 wins over Austin in Subsection play. Hoemruns were flying out of the ballpark in this subsection...

Watched Mayo play yesterday in their win over Hastings 6-4. Good defensively, and hit when they had to...

Century had to beat Northfield twice to advance to Section finals, but have been a hot team over the past three to four weeks.

Section 1AAA Finals
#1 Seed - Rochester JM
#2 Seed - Rochester Mayo
#3 Seed - Owatonna
#4 Seed - Rochester Century

Puhl is going to the U right? And is he playing Legion ball again this summer?

Spoke to Coach Holum about that yesterday as he's also my youngest's little league coach. Apparently they didn't count all of GR's games due to the fact that they were way behind schedule. The point system factored in as well. GR played 2 extra games vs AA schools. 3 pts for a AAA win, 2 for AA, 1 for A. They came up a couple of points shy even though they're 19-1. Had they gone 20 -0 they still would not have been the top seed. Go figure. Looking like they'll meet Forest Lake right off the bat at 1pm in GR with FL, Anoka, Duluth East and GR the main contenders. Should be a good tourney if the weather holds out. Forecast calls for a rainy weekend  :(

This Cambridge-Isanti team is coming in with a 19-1 record, but is a real unkown. They beat up on Duluth East 20-10 in the regular season, but played a seemingly weak schedule. It will be interesting to see how they fair Saturday.

Damn. No #8 seed?

I was hoping that we might be able to resurrect the FLEET OF #8's, and one of the great Minnhock threads (that didn't get locked up) of all time!

Puhl is going to the U and he will be playing Legion ball for North St. Paul this summer. The Legion team should be strong with 5 Hill Murray kids playing and Joe Ruebelke also coming over to play. They also have 1 player who graduated in 2007 coming back to play.

Tartan & Cretin Derham Hall was suspended with 1 out in the Top of the 7th with Tartan ahead 6-2. Cretin won the coin toss for the game so they will still have 3 outs left when they resume @ 3:30 today @ Midway.

Grand Rapids 12
Forest Lake 0

Quick and easy. Rapids (20-1) will play Anoka or Duluth East tonight. Either one looks to present a tougher test.
