Best Coaches in each Section?

7AA Sarsland hands down

I don't think sarslan should be considered in this discussion at all. I played against the guy and in my opinion he displays some of the worst sportsmanship in the state. I think as a coach he does a good job with his players and he has had some great seasons and NHL guys, but i think a coach needs to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship first before anything and to me, he doesnt do that, especially to centennial and the aus family who he should be thanking and those select few of you know why.

that being said, i think both the Aus' should be considered for their section. they have both brought their programs to be to of the elite teams in the state the last few years after being dark horses in years past. they both demand a lot from their players as far as work and respect and even tho they might not be huge fans of one another, the games between the two are always fun to watch.

What is this stuff about the Centennial program and the Aus family?

Is this a joke sarsland will be the first coach to face up and make his kids go apologize for things they have done after the game. i have seen him do it. You dont see other coaches doing that.

As for the aus's first off they are not in this section 2nd the Erik is terrible i mean he has no respect for anyone especially sarsland he may talk trash about sars more then anyone. Dave Aus on the other hand is not bad i think he is a great coach respect him way more the then Erik Aus.

I can't believe this discussion has gone on for four pages an no one has mentioned George Nemanich down in Red Wing. He went to a town that had never been to a section final, won a state championship and went to four or five other tournaments, including two other championship games. He's won the John Mariucci Award twice and was elected President of the state coaches association. I think he's won 250 or 300 games down there, and you never hear anyone complain about him like lots of folks do about guys like Trebil and Sarsland or Randolph (and I like Randolph, but obviously he has his detractors.) There's nobody better in 1A than Nemanich, and maybe nobody better in the state.

I'd like to put coach Steve "Moose" Younghans for the Johnson Governors into the running. He not only coachs the high school team but also the A Bantam team.
He's made both of those team's alot better, and their both doing good. The bantam team is now going to regionals and they have 6 people out, 5 due to injuries. The high school team is now in the semi's for section 4AA by beating the 1st seeded tartan team yesterday.

My vote goes to Brian Urick and his staff at Minnetonka.

Really??? He took over a team that was already very talented. Ken Pauly built that program to what it is today. I would give him a few more years to see what he can do and then we can start calling him one of the best coaches in the state. Still a little early to tell if he is one of the best coaches in the state.

Lets give Pauly a couple of years at BSM and see if he has anything then. To even remotely give him credit for what Minnetonka has accomplished this year is not accurate. Pauly was a disaster at Minnetonka.

But along those lines, I vote for Randolph at DE.

If he was in trouble with the administration, then that probably means he was making some parents mad.
Which probably means he was doing his own thing and telling the parents to butt out.

Lee Smith was coach of the year so I think he at least deserves to be in the conversation, although honestly at the high school level it is almost all the players in my opinion.

Yeah, teaches his kids to fall on the goalie really nicely. Great win against Tartan, and nice third place finish in the Tri-Metro, but that TV game against RJM out-doors was a travesty. How many times can a team run the goalie with no penalties being called? Great job keeping an inner-city program going, but do they play every game like that Rochester game? They got away with everything but murder out there.

TTpuckster, if you had played for DE, you'd get the real story on the 'coach of the year' you mention. And I have no reason to be unhappy or critical.

The point I am trying to make is...the coach of the year should not always be the best team out there. That isn't what makes a good quality coach. A coach of the year should come from a team that most people didnt expect to be where they are this season. That is why I mentioned Maple Grove, Wayzata, and South St. Paul. Nobody at the beginning of the season would have put Maple Grove in the top 15, but now they are a state tournament contender. And no I am not from Maple Grove, actually live out in the country.

As far as Trebil...he got his program because he went in and got all of the Jefferson players when he came over from the Jefferson Bantam A. That is how their program got started. All these coaches are good coaches, but they also get some of the top players around the metro to come and play for them.

Coach of the year candidates for this season...South St. Paul, Red Wing, Hibbing, Virginia at class A...Maple Grove, Blaine, Woodbury, and Wayzata at AA...

I'm sorry.......did you mean WORST coach of the year?
You wouldn't have expected Wayzata to have done as well as they had?
Why on earth not? The Wayzata head coach gets handed a truckload of talent every year. While this season had been better than most, historically he all but squanders it.

I saw them play a couple of games, and yes, they played those games like the Rochester game....it's pretty sad.

Are we talking about the same Weber that did not take his team to a holiday tournament this year so that he could watch his son in law aka Glen Perkins play baseball down in Florida! The guy lacks passion now that his kids are out of the program. 4 years of varsity for the both of them... youth C to Varsity. Puzzling!

Totally agreed! What has this guy done with the South program? If your argument is that he got them to state, you're kidding yourself seeing as they come out of 1AA. If he was that great, kids would stay in Lakeville. There are deffinetly better coaches than him in 1AA.
