I think it is ok to keep seniors on jv if they are good kids and understand that they are not going to play varsity, but in my experience it all starts out ok and then the parents start complaining about heir kid not playing varsity. Not all seniors think like the kid from Breck most feel cheated and stick around just to make a huge scene in a game because they know it does not matter what happens anyway.
Goodie goodie gumdrops everyone got to play at what point in a young man's life should he come face to face with the fact they are not good enough to be out there. I am sure someone will come back and rip me for that one, this is not the NHL it is HS hockey. Well why the heck is there this mess board if it just HS hockey it is obviouseley pretty big if grown men are willing to spend half a day arguing over stupidity.

Now the coach should have limited his first and second lines and played the less talented kids the most, if that is not what he did. On the other hand I know these kids only get 31 games a year at the very most so it is hard to not play them because you know you will destroy them.

I would rather have a short bench for JV then keep some seniors that could be a huge eyesore for your program. I look forward to somebody telling me I am insensitive.

I will turn around slightly if I may. Some of this post brought up a good point...though not exactly, it reminded me: I have heard in the past that too many seniors on a given team is cancer. I think it was in context of basketball where only 5 play the majority of the game with a few subs off the bench. In this case the team had a whole bench of seniors while maybe one underclassmen played at all. This could be compared to the thread here. Too many seniors on a JV could be cancer. Thanks for a very valid point.
