Re: 1AA 4-2 last two years

Why does that say anything to do with rochester teams. The lakeville teams are 4-2 let's be more specific. Yes the team in section 1AA from the cities is 4-2. Let's get the facts stated.
Last Rochester team not counting Lourdes to win at state was 07 when Century beat Hill-Murray and Burnsville to get 3rd place that year.

1AA at state

Exactly my point. Rochester has nothing to do with
1AA being 4-2 at state.

Whether it's Rochester Lourdes or Lakeville representing Section 1, they always bow out early at state. Rochester hockey has declined over the past 10 years. Everything is too watered down. There are too many A players that should be on B teams and too many B players that should be C. As a whole Rochester hockey needs to figure something out.
I agree Roch has declined over the past 10 years.

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying. Rochester hockey is declining because kids are playing up at levels that they can't compete? So they must be getting beat by a large number night in and night out? So you think some kids playing on the A teams should play on the B team? Seems like you are going backwards to me. Roch High School teams will improve by doing this? Please explain your thoughts on why that will help
What percentage of the kids on the A teams play Summer(AAA) Hockey?
Less than 50%?

Well it looks like as X-mas and the holiday breaks near Mayo could be the best team in town. It will be interesting to see if they can continue this string of good play through the Kiwanis and into January/Febuary.

Maybe Century can do there traditional start slow but pick up pace once the kiwanis hits.

Mayo is my pick right now for best rochester
AA team. They have looked solid in all three games I have
Seen this year. I am hoping for a run by mayo past
Lakeville north and south this year, maybe wishful
Thinking.

Best Rochester team

Post by grandmeadowhockeyfan »

Well the debate should be resolved as to the best Rochester
AA team this year. Lackluster showings be JM and century while
Mayo is in the championship game. How about Lourdes playing for fifth place
And nearly playing for seventh after squeaking by Ruth a 1-0 win on consolation bracket semis.
Any thoughts or anyone want to still debate

Was anyone at the Mayo/Century Game last night?

Mayo won 7-1 and i guess Logan Haskins a sophmore for mayo had two goals and one of them being a really nice "highlight reel" style goal.

And also what had happened to Century Hockey and more Century High Athletics they have been going downhill in recent years.

Mayo is the better team, the score could have been worse as Mayo had a number of good scoring chances and Century really struggles to generate any offense at all. Century plays Benilde this week.... :?: Mayo took a couple of stupid penalties (again), they get away with that against teams like Century but didn't against Eastview, they'll have to clean that up if they want to make a run in the section.

I think this year Century is down but last year they were pretty good in football, baseball, and hockey. They had a pretty good run the last decade or so and the change in boundries probably evened out the talent at Century and JM to a degree which shows more in football and basketball. In general high school hockey in Rochester is down this year, though with sophomores like Haskins, Newman, Roth, Zmolek, etc., there is a bright future.

Does the JM loss to Austin change their rank among Roch teams? I heard the JM coach was a bit miffed.

I posted this as a question in the thread on the holiday tournament; why don't the 4 Rochester schools have a round robin tournament at some point during the season similar to the Edina Holiday Tournament?

It wouldn't hurt any of their schedules, some would be games already played, and would likely be a well attended event. Or they could have a simple bracket. They could do it to conclude the season or something similar. Fun for bragging rights.

I always thought the samething and it would be a really good idea why not have it be the new part of hockey day rochester since i havent heard are seen anything of them doing it this year......Does anyone know the deal with why they arent?

While it looks like 1/2 the goals scored in our Men's League games, I think had he screwed #21 into the ice instead of #20, might show more.

Bob, you have to get us some tape of your men's league games!

Meanwhile, sweet goal by Logan, for sure. His dad must have gotten a kick out of that one. As far as Rochester's next top player, I'm not so sure, and am guessing a Zmolek, Slightham, and the younger Streit (an 8th grader?) will make some noise as well.

I see Logan had four points against Winona on Tuesday, and two vs Century Sat for a season total of 9 - pretty good week so far. Hopefully (for Mayo fans, at least) he is just coming into his own now and will show more of same the rest of the season.

Unless BSM plays their JV team, look for the most lopsided score of the year tomorrow night when they play Century.

Hate to say it, but even if BSM puts their JV team out there it is still going to be a long night for Century.

A Mayo victory vs. West Thursday would guarantee at least a share in the Big Nine title for Mayo for the first time since 2001-2002.

If Mayo G Hansen saves another 36 out of 37 shots on Thursday, West will lose again to Mayo and the Big 9 title belongs to the Spartans. Even if West wins, Mayo would have to lose another conference game just for West to tie for the championship.

Btw, JM is looking fully reborn after getting it's suspended players back. They should be more of a factor in sections than people originally thought. Anybody have any information about the players/suspensions?

What chances do you guys give the Spartans of knocking off a Lakeville team come section time??

Depends, no doubt the Lakeville schools play a much tougher schedule night in and night out. It seems the past few years the Rochester schools struggle with step up in talent when section semi finals roll around. Mayo would need to stay in the game early on while adjusting to Lakeville after playing largely weaker competition for the past month and a half.

Just my opinion but I think the seeds go/
North, Mayo, South, Farmington, JM, Owaronna, Century, Winona, Dodge County.

I agree with you goldy 100% about past years and the tougher schedule that lakeville plays however this mayo team seems to have lines that gel together quite abite and also have a goalie whos been on good streaks all season long unlike mayo goals and lines in the past.

Mayo only lost to North 3-0 the first game of the year. It's about the best shot a Rochester team has at knocking off a Lakeville team in a couple of years.
