Re: St. Olaf opens again
It is proving problematic now. The players don't know what is going on; it has to hurt recruiting - potential incoming players aren't sure about the coaching staff. The opinion of the players is that if this situation existed with the football or baseball teams (AD is the coach), it would be handled a lot differently. Some of the players have had three coaches in three years.

Re: St. Olaf opens again
Lost recruits? Minor. Lawsuits due to improper hiring practice? Major.

Trust me, I understand the state of things being unknown is challenging, but I also know that there have been some tremendous candidates for that job historically and currently. The team will be fine.

Re: St. Olaf opens again
They had to open the search because they hired John as an interim head coach. Moe left last fall so they had to find someone in a short amount of time. I don't think that anything is a rip on Bazzachini or the job he did this past year. He took the job under these terms and now they have a full 6-7 months (better not take that long) to find a permanent head coach and hopefully a good one because that program was going in the right direction with Olsiecki. They know they made a not-so-good hire with Moe. Who knows what they do with Bazzachini I am sure he will be a strong candidate, if he wants the job permanently. I have no idea why you would want it playing in that rink and having very little $ to pay your assistant(s).

On another note, this is a HS hockey forum so maybe this should all go USCHO Women's College...I guess that's really not my call so I should shut the heck up!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... tz4puck at: 4/19/06 10:29 am

Re: St. Olaf opens again
Well said, and I don't fault them for hiring the coaches they have had for different reasons. Osiecki was wonderful and really turned the program around. His efforts are still helping that program years after his departure. There are many rumors about what was promised facility & otherwise there, but we can only speculate as to what the truth is. As for Moe, how can you not hire her under those circumstances? Accomplished player, good hockey background, etc. & at last minute they landed her. If she would have stayed long term it woudl have been great, but just wasn't meant to be. And as for the interim coaches, I think they too were likely wonderful. At least that's all the feedback I've received. I also know that MANY top coaches have applied for this position multiple times, so I have a hard time believing that the program is in a bad situation, even if in a state of flux right now.

Burnsville
According to the email I got. Bruce Anderson, longtime assistant and longime teacher in the district has been named the head coach. Interesting he took the job this late in his career but he's a great guy and coach.

Re: 2006 Coaching Vacancies
Maybe! the only difference is the m for a b. But, siBley does have a "henry" in front of it.... I couldn't keep them straight when I played in the conference years ago - so I know it's tough to do - and especially odd as they are in close geographic proximity as well.

While I know that Coach Ball was attacked for various reasons over the years, he is a good guy and I wish him the best. He's been a longtime coach, and you hate to see stability like that end in this ever-volatile coaching situation in G Hockey. I will tell everyone that he was working very hard on some conf. based initiatives even in the last few weeks, so he definitely was in this (coaching) for the right reasons.

Re: As of 4/25
wow... I hadn't heard this. Smith is a good guy, and started the Simley & St. kate's programs years ago. Maybe he's returning to the college ranks?

I have to say that maybe all the coaches are getting out of it in my area as they know of the dynasty we are building at Simley! Now I believe the only surrounding community coaches still in place are Eagan & SSP.

Re: South
I too have heard through a very good source in Rosemount that Smith is leaving. No reason was given but it's my understanding that at least one longtime local youth coach in the area is considering tossing his hat in the ring once it becomes official.

The opening to which I mentioned earlier is a different one in the south metro but it is too early to say anything because many in the present administration don't even know about it yet. I will say it is not a major girls hockey power, very similar to Rosemount.

2006 Coaching Vacancies
I am sad to see Jerry at Sibley go. I will miss him. He is a great coach who cared about his athletes and girls HS hockey. Sad day for hockey.
