I have seen most of every one of the Vikings seasons.

I have never seen such a pathetic offense. When they were 3-13 under Steckle, thay had a better offense.

I have never seen such bad QB play and Ive seen them all. Tark in his early years, Joe Kapp, Wade Wilson, Gannon in his early years, you name it.

Never have they had such poor play at that position. He has to pull Johnson and for good. He was never anything but an above average QB and now he is 38. He was signed as a backup. Lets put him there.

I agree.
Can you imagine if they would have played defense 1/2 as good in the late 90's.
Might as well get Jackson in there and see what he can do.
I realize it is his first year, but they don't look like they are any better coached this year.
At least we have FSN hockey.

At 1 point they had forced 4 Bear turnovers and had zero points. Grossman played as bad as a QB can and still won.

Chilly's an arrogent horse's @$%, the Vikes didn't practice outside at all knowing it was going to be 20 degrees today. The players had trouble catching, the QB had the ball sail on him but inside was the better "teaching" environment, yea right. The guy can't coach, or at least won't change from his plan no matter how feable it is.

Tice was 9-7 with for the most part the same team and Chilly has upgraded it and is 5-7. They have the highest payed O-line including the highest paid tackle and guard in the league but can't pass block.

It was the middle of the 3rd quarter and it was 7-6, Vikings were driving near midfield, Fason was ripping off 5-8 yard carries. On 2nd and 4 Johnson lofts one long and out of bounds. 3rd and 4 turns into 3rd and 9 after procedure penalty. Next play goes 54yds the other way, Game over.

Who is to blame for the sequence of events that ended the game?

1. Coaches for not running on 2nd and 4. Why did they get away from the only thing they could do effectively.
2. Brad Johnson for not taking care of the ball.
3. O Line for procedure penalty.
4. Management for assembling this team.

The standard answer is, "Well it's a little of each". No, I want the one person who needs to be flogged for their actions which has led to the '06 season.

My vote goes to the coaches. 1) run the ball on 2nd and 4. 2) Pull Johnson after NE game. Bollinger and even Tavares completed some passes. They stayed with Johnson, 2 weeks too long.

Its hard to know who to flog until you make changes.

When Johnson went out, it looked a little crisper until they let the DE kill Bollinger.

But then Jackson found some guys open before he fumbled.

Even when Johnson has time, "nobody is open"... ever.

People point to Johnson's turnovers and rightfully so but he also is missing guys who are wide open.

I think the O is bad because the QB is bad. The worst in franchise history.

Do we really want it?

Why doesnt this piece of crap team go straight in the toilet so it can get a top 3 pick in the draft. Maybe a top flight RB.

Do we really think it would be great to go 9-7 and make the playoffs and lose right away?

A special thanks to Billy Joel (We Didn't Start the Fire) for the inspiration. The seemingly endless supply of Viking scandals, failures, and personalities could fill volumes.

I went and dug out an old Billy Joel Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2 cassette tape just to follow along. It's perfect.

Exactly, that's why I had to dig it out, I had my Piano Man 8 track handy, but it didn't have the song I wanted on it.

I posted a couple of days ago that I thought thhis team would be better off going in the tank and getting a top pick than striving to be 9-7 and drafting in the middle.

But they have drafted so poorly lately, I dont know if there is any hope.

How could you possibly pick Troy Williamson?

What hope is there for this team to get out of the 7-9, 9-7 range in the near future?

I dont see any.

The Vikings are close to being a 9-4 team and they are equally as close to being a 3-10 team. This league is all about parity now.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but they don't need a gigantic overhaul in personnel or attitude. Striking gold in the draft with one guy could do it.
If everything is the same but the Vikes have Devin Hester and the Bears have Troy Williamson, the Vikings win at least three of the following; Miami, GB, Buffalo, SF, Chicago home, Chicago away.

Hester has 5 TD's, 4 of those have won or swung games in favor of a team with an offense that was doing nothing that game.

Oh come on IS. One guy?

In order for them to comptete for a championship, they need quality at RB, QB, and WR (2) on offense.

On defense they need a LB and a pass rushing DE.

If Robert Smith was running behind this line, he'd have 1600 yds and 20 TDs by now.

The QB is the worst Ive seen in franchise history.

The WRs are average at best.

They need one stud, versatile LB and a DE who can put pressure on the passer.

If one guy can do all that, than I agree with you.

Whoever wins the superbowl this year will have holes. The Colts defense is horrible, the Pats are reeling, the Bears have a QB that can't hold onto the ball and a defense that will give up yards, the Cowboys have TO and they just got drilled, the Giants are one game better than the Vikes, The Ravens are one hit away from trying to go the distance with a QB they've been trying to replace for 3 years.

Your blue print is exactly right for what the Vikes need, but every contending team has a similar list of needs.

This isn't the NFL or your youth. It's about getting to the playoffs and being healthy.
