Depending on what Seattle would be looking for in return, I'd take a run at him... Why not? It's sounding more and more like Cuddyer is going to be iffy at best for quite a while, and until Delmon starts hulking up, that leaves no thunder from the right side.

Money be damned - I'm not signing the checks. Besides, wasn't it determined that even after signing Cuddyer, Morneau and Nathan they're still spending abou $5m less than they did last year?

As long as they don't have to mortgage the future to get him, you may as well give it a shot.

Well Neutron if I were dogzilla, you'd be scratching me in all the right spots.

In a world where costs are outracing wages it should be noted that the big cuts of meat still being served up by those wenches in the home port are still modestly priced.

YES: avoid the seafood but not the bar.

Well the Boys had a fine night at the EXHIBITION last night, M&M got on base 5 out of 7 times and Mr. Ed threw a perfect inning.

Now back to business Friday when a Ponson-less Texas comes to town for 3. Then on the road at NY and Cleveland before the big Dome matchup with Da Sox.

I'm hoping for some moves now, but nothing will probably happen until the trading deadline.

Gotta get back to my new favorite game...

Tell me about what an EXHIBITION last night (this morning) was in October when Jason Kubel and Adrian Beltre lead the hometown boys onto the FieldTurf against the Cubbies in GAME ONE of the Series.

No team will be in contention unless thay are at or near the top in pitching. Thats a fact, jack.

Interesting, The Twins are in the bottom 5 in pitching. They have given up a lot of runs. Indeed, the 4th most in the AL. More than Cleveland.

So why are they well above .500 and only 1.5 out of 1st place? How can this be?

Well lets just see now. Hmmmmm, where do they rank in hitting?

Oh, 3rd in overall hitting and runs scored.

What does this prove you have to do to win?

Caught this little blurb on the Baseball Prospectus site:

"A lot more discussion of Adrian Beltre to the Twins has come up lately, though the Twins have also taken a hard look at Hank Blalock, Garrett Atkins, and even Casey Blake. The Twins have pitching to trade and seem willing to make a move as they chase the White Sox."

I like the thought of Atkins - he's off a little bit this season, but he's typically a 100 RBI guy, so he'd know how to knock around Casilla, Mauer and Morneau in front of him - especially since he'd get fastballs hitting behind Justin. He'd likely be a rent-a-player since his contract is up after this season though. Couldn't give up too much to get him - but it would probably less that what Beltre would command.

I dunno Govs. It sounds like they are willing to do another Young/Garza type trade. If they are willing to give up a current starter, it must mean they are pretty confident the Liriano will make it back.

Charley Walters was hinting at a Cuddyer/Hernandez package (not necessarily for Atkins). I doubt he has any real knowledge of that actually being talked about, but if you can find anybody willing to take them both on... It would be interesting.

Dump Cuddyer's salary for the next 2 years and clear Monroe off the books for next year, and you've got another $18m available... maybe you might be able to sign a guy like Atkins as a "real" 3rd baseman, and get Span in the lineup permanently with Casilla and Gomez. Barring injury, they'd be able to torture the Central for years to come. At some point before the start of next season, the outfield situation with Span/Cuddyer/Kubel is going to have to be addressed - maybe this is the time to do it?

Beyond that, I wonder if Bill Smith feels any heat from the Castillo fallout from last year. Ryan got ripped for making no moves when the team was still within striking distance.

I would love to see them make a trade that would help them win this year and long term. I think thats what they are tying to do. I dont think they would be "renting" an Atkins or Beltre.

A player like Beltre ot Atkins should not scare them from a salary stand point especially if Cuddyer was involved in the trade.

I wonder if Liriano is involved in the trade talks.
