this is WAY different than the AL/Marshall game...these two teams that had the brawl have had bad blood for many years, and thus cannot play each other in the regular season.JRdeeez wrote:Frustration doesn't have to lead to a brawl. This seems to be a common occurance for West. Get frustrated..start fights. Maybe someone (coach) needs to get a better handle on the situation. And don't use the "career over" excuse. Everyone's career ends at some point. I didn't see a fight at the end of the AL-Marshall game. I do know what its like to have your hockey career end in a dissappointing way. Play the game hard and give it everything you have. But when its over, don't act like an out of control animal. Grow up, accept the loss and move on.

I heard that had something to do with the officals...Puckhandler wrote:Also, West players and coaches freaked out when AL kicked the crap out of them down in Albert Lea. I agree katoguy, take it like a man!

Never the less, freaking out occurred. Seems to be a trend with West.

West/New Ulm fight
First, everyone is taking this fight way to seriously. Up on the iron range, things like this happen all the time. Everyone is wearing pads anyway. A real fight is when everyone takes of their helmets, drops their gloves and starts going at it. It's really fun! Up on the range, that's what we do best!

You hear of this hand-shake sucker punching thing every year. Last year when Albert Lea was playing New Ulm, there was an Albert Lea player that sucker punched one of the New Ulm players in the belly during the hand-shake. Nobody can foresee this from happening. The only person to blame is the first person that throws the first punch.
LightItUp, I have no idea which player from NU davey is talking about. Granted there is more of a history between West-NU than there is between AL-Marshall. But again, every team has rivals. AL-Austin back in the 90's was a very intense rivalry. Warroad-Roseau is probably the biggest one in the state. One constant thing you generally see in successful programs is discipline. On to Friday....I am interested to see if NU losses any players. If/when will anything be handed out?

Whatever happened to that guy? Punishment? Is he on the team this year? Did it lead to an all out brawl? Did the coaches take charge of the situation? Was there animosity then between teams? Coaches? Fans? Towns?ZAMBONI wrote:You hear of this hand-shake sucker punching thing every year. the player from AL that punched a NU kid in the hand shake line was suspended for somthing like 5 or 6 games, had to write a letter of apology to the kid, and a stern talkin to by nystrom... he is not playing this year because of his own reasons.
now... what does everyone think of the game on friday?

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it was handled very well.Tigerpride2 wrote:the player from AL that punched a NU kid in the hand shake line was suspended for somthing like 5 or 6 games, had to write a letter of apology to the kid, and a stern talkin to by nystrom... he is not playing this year because of his own reasons.

I'm betting Roy and staff handled that right away.
No need to ask who's in charge in AL.
That's the way it should be.

i doubt that NU will get any players suspened. West started the whole thing. I was there and i saw the whole thing. How else was NU suppose to react? granted everyone should be the "bigger person" and just walk away from it...but really...every other team would have done the same thing(s) NU did. anyways, great game by NU, hope all goes well for them friday.
The AL NU game could go either way. If NU does get players suspended it will be hard for them to win seeing as most of the kids who were fighting were 1st and 2nd line guys. They lose 6-3. If they do not get any suspensions they will win 4-3. Buegler will play out of his mind if he doesn't then they will have no chance in the world of winning. Needs to play like he did against West maybe even better.

personally dont think they will win at all... even if Buegler plays out of his mind, AL has been clicking all around no shortage in the goals department thats for sure also no shortage in the goaltending department for AL....gabT wrote:The AL NU game could go either way. How can NU-West blood be THAT bad? None of these kids have played against eachother for 3 years and the schools havent played eachother I don't know how long. I agree that something seems wierd that this kind of thing has happened with them multiple times but who knows.
As for the game on Friday after watching both games from start to finish I think New Ulm played a near perfect game to beat West but...they will have to play better to beat AL. AL was absolutely flying to start the game and it hardley let up until 3rd and 4th lines took over in the third. I see an upper level of firepower on the AL side that I don't see for New Ulm. Unless Buegler is absolutely unconcious and AL spends a lot of the game in the box I see AL taking this one 4-1.

Katoguy is right there is a lot of bad blood between New Ulm and Mankato West apparently. I asked 1 of the Albert Lea kids if there has always been a lot of bad blood. The answer was yes. Then I asked if New Ulm played Mankato East and the answer was yes again. Finally the last question was does New Ulm and Mankato East have a fight or fights. This time the answer was no. My point is if there is a lot if bad blood between New Ulm and Mankato West; they don't play in the regular season, but they do in the postseason. Yes I know everyone deserves a fairshot at going to state but with the bad blood and all why doesn't someone from the MSHL put them in two different sections. Then we/nobody would have to deal with this type of stuff/situation and there would be no more fight/scufles/brawls.

I bet the tape will also show what probably started this whole thing and that was the shot to the back of the head that the kid from NU (who is the common denominator from all of this bad blood between these two teams)gave the Mankato kid with about two minutes left in the game. He also shot his mouth off in the handshake line. Everybody talks about how you need to lose with class, but is also important to win with class.
As for these kids not playing each other for three years, they do in the summer league.
On to Friday I think
AL 5
NU 1
I find it interesting that West is getting the majority of the blame for this whole nasty situation.(maybe they deserve it) However, if the NU players were trash talking while going through the line, then they are as much to blame as West. Considering the past history of the two teams, you shake hands, say "Good Game", and shut your mouth. It is too bad, just gives hockey another black eye. Like it really needs it! Maybe the coaches should have addressed the sportsmanship aspect going into the game. I am not putting alot of blame on the coaches, as these kids have played in enough games to know better.
Hockeyman, if there is a tape maybe you should Youtube it from the point of the game where the back of the head shot took place to the handshake and ensuing skirmish. Then everybody can see it for themselves.hockeyman42 wrote:i know who has this tape of the fight and it is sweet and it proves that kato is a bunch of cheap kids who cant handle themselves and nu was just using self defense

I'll go with a 5-1 win for Albert Lea... if they play like they did against Marshall at the civic center i think they'll even make some noise up at the state tournament.
as for the "class" of Mankato... the fight would never have even been started if loud mouth Clyne or however you spell that kids name would have shown some class. As i talked to a west player about the situation he said "i wasn't going to start anything until clyne said to us "thats right you mother f**kers""
now if your emotionally unstable because the thing you love most is done and your most important dreams right now are gone... and someone says that to you... i dare you not to react the way the west players did.
and as msuhockeyfan said... the way everyone else is talking about new ulm... "im surprised new ulm didn't take out their angelic wings and fly away from the sinful action"
