Re: wsp....
I think if you look at the players who live in MH/WSP and go to the privates (CDH, VIS, etc.), I would bet that pretty close to 100% of their parents also went to private HS. I don't think many of those parents place too much emphasis on who the hockey coach is at Sibley, when they make the HS choic...

Re: A Great Coach?
I think Charley Stryker had a couple of huge advantages at SPU. First, the parents at SPA/Vis for the most part really have a grasp on where sports fits in the grand scheme of things. Success in the classroom is much more heavily emphasized at SPA/Vis than sports (as it certainly should be). And sec...

Re: Poor Jack Gravel?
The BSM situation reminds me of what happened to the Moundsview girls coaches several years ago. The coaches led MV to I believe two consecutive state appearances. However, the star player's dad apparently was not satisfied and was instrumental in having the coaches fired. Very beneficial to the pro...

Also, two players from Sibley plan to attend STC : Emily Haedrich (top scorer), and Jessica Cascalenda (very steady defender).

Re: Meltdown Results
Icecats U19 beat the East Side Eagles in semis 4-1. Eagles beat Walser Blue 2-0 in third place game. Icecats beat OS in championship. Note: I think McCready coached the Lightning; not OS. Interesting ending to Eagles - Lightning game. Score tied 3-3 late in 3rd period. Lightning pulls their goalie a...

Re: Okay, so which one should it be?
I would go with the camp that is closer and more convenient to attend. I wouldn't get to worried about which one to attend. Like any week long camp, neither will have that great of an impact on a player's development.

Re: Jac Daggit
This recognition of a top player on a not so good team sort of flies in the face of those parents and players who think that to be recognized as a top player, one has to move to a hockey power.

Re: St. Olaf opens again
It is proving problematic now. The players don't know what is going on; it has to hurt recruiting - potential incoming players aren't sure about the coaching staff. The opinion of the players is that if this situation existed with the football or baseball teams (AD is the coach), it would be handled...

Re: St. Olaf opens again
Women's hockey is at the bottom of the athletics totem pole at St.Olaf. They have a great head coach in place right now - John Bazakini and two great assistants. The coaches know hockey and know how to coach hockey. The players like and respect them. It is a mystery to all connected with Olaf hockey...

Definitely loaded with talent. But isn't this basically the same team that SSM handled relatively easily last month?

Re: chemistry
I think if a totally neutral, unbiased observer watched the SSM v Rapids game, he or she would not think that the Rapids had superior individual talent. In fact, if hypothetically that game was used as a try-out for some higher team, I think many more SSM players would be selected for this hypotheti...

Re: SSM vs. Mn Rapids
The game was not as close as the score. SSM pretty much dominated most of the action. SSM won most of the races to the puck and appeared much more confident with the puck. SSM also seemed to be physically stronger as well. Two players for the Rapids who did look good were Hogan and Naslund. They hus...

Re: Good Coaches Know When To Leave?
I think Wayzata would be the toughest place to coach in the state. The community is filled with type A; super-successful, highly driven CEO types. Anything less than championships is viewed as unsuccessful. I remember an incident a couple years ago at Plymouth Arena that left a couple of us who witn...

Re: Transfers = Championships
It seems like the predominant reason for transferring schools is to be part of a "winning HS program" and ultimately to become noticed by D1 coaches and obtain the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - A DIVISION 1 SCHOLARSHIP. This assumes that there are D1 calibre players that are miss...

Re: 2006 EP One of the Best Ever???
Not sure about 2 - 10. But I don't think any team tops last year's SSP machine. That first line seemed to have scoring chances every time they entered the offensive zone. I think they would have beaten EP by several goals. This is not to disrespect EP; just that SSP was that good.

Re: Where's the Heart?
Agreed. Youth sports would be better off if the parents dropped their kids off at the door of the arena and returned an hour or so later at the end of the game. Then a simple, "Did you have fun today?" would be sufficient conversation about the game, practice, etc.
