Why is it OK for boys to celebrate and when girls celebrate, it's "Pass me the smelling salts, where's the fainting couch."? Have any of you watched a Squirt game? Or a PeeWee game? Or a Bantam game? Did you watch the High School tournament? Have you seen any of THOSE celebrations? I imagi...

Nasty observation by the writer. I'm sure the goalie gave it his all. Who knows what the result would have been with the other goalie and it's ridiculous to speculate. I'm glad this kid got to play. You have zero clue what you are talking about... The girl goalie hardly played all year. They (coach...

TS, Enjoy your work and site. You and I have both posted in the past about the region set-up this year and the possibility of teams not "giving their all" for seeding purposes. That being said, I am troubled by the complaints about Jefferson playing its "B" goalie in a district ...

When the proposal for the new AA/A system came out, I originally thought the bigger associations Wayzata and Edina would field two A teams that were evenly balanced not two AA (Wayzata) or an AA and A (Edina). This way they would get more kids in the A field but at the same time have the opportunit...

Re: Congrats Hornet Girls

"Obama might run the country" Not sure what that has to do with anything, but whatever. Regarding the assessment of the strength of the Edina 12B teams. I have a hard time believing the association would weight them. Teams may have been stacked by some parent "coach" coalitions, ...

No check for C level Bantams and B/C level Peewees. Use C level for Recreational level so instead of quitting they can still play. Checking for A level peewee and A/B level Bantams I've never understood the disregard for C players on this site. True story from tryouts last year. C player from a VER...

I mean uhhh, it's not true, right ??? Confused This is actually true. And each child born in Edina is the product of Immacul...

Can we stop with the blanket Edina bashing? I have no idea what happened or why the coaches pulled their team. Clearly, nobody else on this board knows either. Maybe we'll find out, maybe we won't. In the meantime, there are hundreds of Edina parents who drive their kids to practice every night, go ...

I've wondered about this from a goalie perspective. My thought is that the goalie is facing more shots, which should be a good thing. Another parent (of a very, very good goalie) said his son never plays in the smaller rinks because the angles are all wrong and it might screw him up on the bigger ri...

Here's some very specific advice. I would avoid Edina. Between the 97 and 98 years, there's something like 20-some goalies. Doubtful he could compete against the 97s (a very, very good crop)...which may leave him possibly one year playing in goal in high school. If he's better than all the existing ...

Sad news. Brian Burke's son dies.

Brendan Burke, age 21, has died in a car accident. He is the son of Leaf's GM, Brian Burke. The elder Burke is also the GM of the 2010 USA Hockey Team and grew up in Edina.

Here's a slightly different question. What about the B girls? Do they ever make the Varsity team? Or on the boys side, what about a kid who plays B and C hockey. Any stories about them making the high school team? We have a big association and I get the impression the die is cast by PeeWees/12U. If ...

Good to see your coach is moving in the right direction...interesting that you don't think that missing shifts for PP and PK isn't shortening the bench. If your daughter's 10U team spends a minute of practice on PP & PK you should give your coach a slap. I'll give you the secret of a good PP th...

Our coach started shortening the bench during the second period of the second game our team played. U10B. My daughter was one of the "shortened" and cried all the way home. She couldn't understand why she didn't play for much of the game. She's not one of the best players, she's also not t...

I'm think you need to put a big * in front of any discussion of the Edina Hockey Association and development. First, I think all of the A team players from Squirt (really, some Mites too when I think about it) on up, play hockey year round. That's in addition to various breakfast clubs, 3 on 3 teams...

One other note on the Wayzata/Edina game. The Wayzata goalie was huge. Not super wide, but towering. Bigger than most high-school goalies. Bigger than many adults. Both goalies did a good job and I don't want to talk about a specific kid, I'm just saying I took one look at the Wayzata net and I whim...

Yeah, I'm confused too. I also heard that they're planning 1A, 2 B1, 4B2, 4C. Not sure who to believe, but that mix makes more sense for development, the other more sense for winning records. The website shows five C teams. I guess they're going for winning records. Perhaps, the B1 and B2 teams wer...
