Re: New NCAA Proposal
The NCAA unanimously approved the "Five for Five" rule today, starting with the academic year immediately AFTER a player's 19th birthday. It starts this academic year. Current athletes who have already completed the traditional four years of eligibility do not automatically get a fifth yea...

Re: New NCAA Proposal
Update on the Five in Five proposal. Friday, June 5th, the NCAA heard a counterproposal from the Hockey Coaches Committee. The five-year clock would begin upon an athlete's initial full-time college enrollment or at the beginning of the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever happens ...

Re: Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Hockey No More?
With Wrenshall and Carlton slated to consolidate districts, it appears Cloquet is near ending the coop agreement. At first, I thought this may be just a mere formality as the agreement was between Cloquet and Carlton, but doing a little more reading, it appears Cloquet's Board doesn't have much int...

Re: New NCAA Proposal
I have kind of warmed up on the "five for five" amendment that may get passed in regards to hockey. I had "sky is falling" thoughts on this, especially living in MN and HS hockey being king, but after listening/reading comments from some D-I college coaches (remember this only af...

Re: New NCAA Proposal
Sounds like a lot of D-I coaches/teams are leaning towards having a player play one year of juniors after they from High School graduation. They realize they will "only" have the player for four years, but if they bring them in as a true, 18/19 year old freshman, they most likely will be a...

Re: New NCAA Proposal
What is the purpose? It seems to me that the NCAA has bigger problems if there even is a problem that this would be addressing. It seems to be aimed at football and basketball, where agents are "trying" to get kids an extra year through various waivers to improve their draft status (at le...

New NCAA Proposal
Okay... There is a pending proposal with the NCAA, the "Five in Five" eligibility for D-I. It would allow athletes to compete for five seasons within a five-year period, starting at high school graduation or age 19, whichever occurs first. This would also eliminate most waivers/redshirts. ...

Re: Moving season start
OK thanks Beaver. I tried another browser and that worked better. But I still only see MSHSL dates for 2025-26, and only civic holidays and some religious holy days for following years. The 2026-27 dates are the third row on each sheet. 2025-26 are the fourth row, 2027-28 the second row and 2028-29...

Re: Moving season start
Then that would be a week later than typical, since it would put the wrasslers entirely in the month of March. I know I'm usually the dumbest guy in the room, but am I the only one not seeing anything about hockey, or any winter sport, on the MSHSL spread sheet? Are y'all just inferring this about ...

Re: Moving season start
Best guess on my part is Labor Day is later this year. Fall sports may run a week longer because of this?

Re: Early transfer Rumors?
Sounds to me like the HTown goalie that left may be boomeranging back. Any truth to that? Quite possible. He probably wasn't going to play much behind Francisco, so go to Honeybaked for a year and play 50 games instead of 20(?) at JV, and that is if you don't have to split games. I could see this p...

Re: Early transfer Rumors?
Joey Cullen just posted a goodbye on social media. Wonder where he’s off to. NTDP maybe? Daddy’s team with the Force? He is on the 2010 NTDP invite list. He also still shows up on Honeybaked 15O's roster in Michigan, they just defeated Little Creasers to win USA Hockey's Michigan District autobid t...

Re: NIT
I don't think the MSHSL would sponsor, or even sanction it. And, I don't think the players'/coaches'/schools' hearts would be in it as it isn't the big dance. The non-committed hockey fans would be gearing up for the main tournament, so this would be an after thought for them. And, it couldn't be at...

Re: Bantams still a good predictor of HS success
About 2018 I was biking to a work site in Woodbury. My route took me through the older, west part of Woodbury. I was horrified! Some of those homes have single car garages! I was surprised they didn't just try to pawn off those neighborhoods onto JOakdale. Tax base! They may only be one car garages...
