NorthStar Christian Academy

Post by BSUBeaver »

Interesting. Looks like NorthStar Christian Academy in Alexandria is going to make an attempt at starting a girls program. From their Facebook post:

"NorthStar Christian Academy has built a reputation for elite hockey development in a Christ-centered environment. Now, we’re bringing that same standard to the girls’ game. Introducing Knights Girls Hockey.

This program is built on the foundation that has defined the Knights from day one: top-tier competition and development, academic advancement, and a discipleship model that leads to transformed lives through relationship with Jesus Christ.
And we’re building it with some of the best in the game.

Our Knights Girls Hockey Advisory Board includes:
🔹 Brad Frost — Former University of Minnesota Women’s Hockey Head Coach & 4x NCAA National Champion
🔹 Gigi Marvin — 3x Team USA Olympic Medalist, former PWHL player & University of Minnesota standout
🔹 Pete Samargia — PWHL Frost Goalie Coach, Knights Goalie Coach & 22-year coaching veteran

Elite experience. Proven leadership. A shared vision for what girls hockey can become at NorthStar.
The next chapter of Knights Hockey starts now."

Are they kind of the Shattuck of the North?

Is this Brad Frost's full time gig now?

They don't have the boarding or in person learning like Shattuck does, and the base price is less, from what I understand. They are also not eligible for USA Hockey Nationals like Shattuck, they basically play who they can get on the schedule. I think at one time, they were affiliated with the NAPHL, but I don't think so anymore.

That said, it is a pretty solid program as they have moved players onto Juniors on their path to NCAA programs.

Their schooling is done online through Liberty University's High School platform, and players are billeted in town. Where they are going to put another crop of billets in Alex, I don't know. With NorthStar's 16U and 18U teams, and the NA3HL Alexandria Blizzard, there aren't a lot of places. Every summer, both programs put out ads for billets.

I know NorthStar was in the process of getting a dorm built on their grounds, I believe they got as far as footings poured. But then the blow up with the Randazzos and the board happened, and that fell apart.
