Re: Early Departures From WCHA
Toews probably will go as well. I sat next to the head scout for the Penguins (Greg Malone) in the final five. He could not say enough good things about Toews. Also it would not surprise me if the Penguins take him as they already have a couple of Shattuck players on the team in Crosby and Malones s...

Gretzky's kids to Shattuck.
A hockey dad visiting Shattuck told me he met the Great One while on a parent visit just a short time ago, he was interested in the school for his kids. Anyone else hear this?

Edited by: upucker at: 4/25/06 10...

Re: Great Squirt A Teams
Faribault does get some help from Shattuck siblings and this year they also had a Coach from the Shattuck Varsity. I think his name was Curwin.

I have heard that Shattuck may start to take kids as young as squirt level. This might hurt the Faribault Hockey Assoc.

Edited by: <A HREF...

Re: Showcase
What happened to obtaining the USA Coaching Card in progression? The first year you coach you get Level 1, the second year coaching you get Level 2, etc. etc. And what happened to the test that they used to have to take? Now we have guys going from Level 1 to Level 3 all in one year. Some with no co...

Pucknutz
How is the Hastings program working? Just curious because when our program (Albert Lea) was started we used the Hastings in-house program as an example. Do they still have all the kids play in-house or has it changed?

Re: Positive Ways
The reason one Team played more games this year was that the ice outside was terrible, kids could not go down to the park and it seemed like the in-house program was sliding. There was three teams on the ice on Wednesdays which used to be 2 so each team could have 1/2 of the ice and the coach could ...

Re: Positive Ways
Dasherdude;
Do you really think by that having all squirts kids play in-house will prepare them for competitive hockey? I used to think this could work but after being involved for 5 years I know this is not the answer. Games are tests to see how well the kids are developing compared to other pro...

The certificates are different, But having the USA Hockey certificate may have some merit. Good communication skills are a plus. I have also heard that a minor in Psychology and a Major in Political science can be very helpful.

Buffalo dryland program
There was some talk about a year ago about Buffalo and their Dryland program and how the kids were burnt out on too much dryland STUFF in-season. Can the Buffalo people tell me is there any truth to this? Have they kept the dry land training in-season or to just off-season?

Cost of helmets. I bet that some local sportings goods stores would give helmets to coaches as long as they were able to put the stores logo on the sides of the helmet.

Re: helmets
I hear the helmets will be deer hunter Orange and will have the stop sign logo on all four sides of the hemet. This will let the kids know that its not a player but a coach and you should avoid checking or shooting pucks at them. Oh and one more thing they can only be bought from USA Hockey, cost 35...

Mark Stephan? Is this the same Stephan who played hockey for Albert Lea then transfered to Shattuck in the early 80s? He also went on to play football at Carlton College in Northfield.

Thanks, maybe I could give Butch a call and get more info. Just seems like with the weather can't get good ice long enough for the kids to get into a routine.
