Great Squirt A Teams

Post by Cap19tain »

this year's Edina squad is now 24-1-3. Won all three tournaments so far, including fargo. played tough schedule: tonka 3 times, lakeville south twice, fargo flyers, omaha, maple grove, district 6.

what other teams are in that ballpark?

Saw on Coon Rapids website that they are 34-1-2, only loss to Woodbury. Don't know that their schedule compares favorably to Edinas, but impressive nonetheless. BTW, if my math is right that's 37 games - aren't squirts limited to 35???? Sounds like somebody's going to get into trouble...

that might include non-reffed games, known as controlled scrimmages with coaches on the ice. this edina team beat Coon Rapids in a 90-min controlled scrimmage 9-7.

Then sounds like they are reasonably legit to play Edina w/in 2 over 90 minutes. But if they are posting controlled scrimmages in their record, I wonder why the Edina scrimmage isn't listed? Something just doesn't look right there.

edina doesnt post non-reffed games. no refs, obviously, make such competitions very different. also, there are no penalties served. games are stopped for instruction. some offsides and icings are let go. goaltending strategies are different. PK and PP situations are set up. that kinda stuff.

and if you post them, you cud get snagged by the 35-game rule.

I think Woodbury A has a pretty gaudy record - 10 squirt teams.

Squirts

Yes, Tonka is a fine team and beat the Hornets 2-1 last week. Edina beat Tonka 3-0 in the fargo semi and held tonka to zero shots in the third period.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... p19tain at: 3/8/06 7:23 am

Squirt A

Post by Cap19tain »

Edina drawing WBL at the start of the tournament shows the host team isn't giving itself a break. And Lakeville South looms in the other bracket.

Edina Squirt A

Post by Cap19tain »

The Hornets went 5-0 and won their tournament this past weekend. Outscored opponents 32-4 and recorded 3 shutouts. Held White Bear Lake to 8 shots and won 5-0. Outshot Lakeville South 32-9 (19-2 in the 3rd period) and won in the title game 3-1.
Clearly, this was the best Squirt A team in the state. Won Fargo tournament and finished season 29-1-3.

Maybe the best Edina Squirt A team ever.

Edina beat wbl 6-3 friday night and 5-0 sunday morning. Friday's game was extremly exciting. WBL had edina 3-2 going into the third period. Sunday was complete domination by Edina. They are a very good squad. The best that we have seen all year!

Is it the best squirt team ever, or more the fact that only the top 8% of a huge group of kids make up one A team? Check Edina's website and see how many blow-outs they had - both metro and northern teams. I am sure that Edina held plenty back in many of those games - I know they don't try to humiliate other teams. In those tournament and district games, I am sure a number went to running time and ended early to prevent even worse scores. Edina and a few others should consider two A teams at the squirt level.

I don't think you guys are even looking back at all to compare them to best squit team ever. Try going back 4 short years when this years Edina Bantam team was squirts. They won everything and i mean EVERYTHING. They won fargo AND Sarnia. They went like 48-2-0 losing only to a canadian team in sarnia and to jefferson. To me that is just insane.

To me what is insane, is that you are arguing over who the best squirt team ever is! They are 9 & 10 yrs old. A lot of times, these kids that are phenom's at squirts barely make a high school team. We have all seen in first hand. They get burnt out, dont grow, play other sports, or just grow up. Bottom line, who cares who is the best team ever. They are young kids that are having fun. Let them have fun! Do you think this Edina Squirt team sits at home and debates whether or not they were better then the 97' edina team? or the 03' Chaska team? LET THEM ENJOY THE GAME AND LET IT GO!

If a squirt team played 50 games they should have been suspended the next year

From the peanut gallery:

We had about as good a non-Minnkota District (no 94's) Squirt team that you're going to find and we lost to both Edina and Coon Rapids (both games 2-1 in OT). They were pretty similiar teams--deep bench, mobile and big defensemen, and fast. Both teams just kept sending wave after wave of strong skaters on to the ice. Neither team had any dominating player(s) but they didn't have any benders either which was the difference against us--we had 5 96's on our roster. I wouldn't want to pick a winner between these two teams but if I had to I'd say Edina wins a one-goal game, maybe in OT. I'd say they are 1 and 1A in Minnesota at the Squirt A level though we never saw Woodbury. Cloquet isn't far behind--but can't match either team defensively.

In a scrimmage (no penalties, liberal off-sides and icings), Edina defeated Coon Rapids 9-7 in 90 minutes of ice.
I saw Omaha play Edina in the Fargo tournament. Omaha's goalie had a fantastic game and came closest to knocking out the Hornets. It could just have easily gone the other way.
