Open Enrollment Solved
It is not unusual for student needs to change throughout high school- what works for a freshman in terms of athletics, academics and athletics and academics may not work for a junior or a senior- these are volatile years for a teenager. Penalizing a student for changing schools for a myriad of reaso...

Re: Open Enrollment Solved!
The MSHL will not be able to change the open enrollment rules unless they change the state statutes on open enrollment. This is not really a sports rule, parents at any time should be able to put their child in a religious school without sports penalty throughout their high school career. The abilit...

Re: Transfers = Championships
I agree. Bureaucracies do not fix themselves because there is a problem- they fix themselves because there are no options left and the students leave and there is no choice other than to remedy the situation.

Re: Good Coaches Know When To Leave?
Doesn't matter... sometimes Hockey moms do know what they are doing. When the public pushes players and coaches to a higher standard this is not always a bad thing... parents need to be realistic but they do need to hold those accountable to some kid of reasonable standard.

Re: Open Enrollment Solved!
Everyone who thinks that this issue is black and white regardless of what the MHSL decides is clueless. If a student starts out in a public school and transfers to a private school because of religious resasons, there is no court that will be able to upheod the penalty of a one year sacrifice of a v...

Re: Transfers = Championships
As controversial as it is, I think there are times when it makes sense for a student to transfer. If a high school program gets so dysfunctional that it is not providing anything of value to the students and the school administration refuses to make any changes to remedy the problems- then I applaud...

Re: Kiwanis/Wells Fargo Hockey Tournament A
I saw alot of these games. Richfield dominated Albert Lea and also outshot Spring Lake Park. Spring Lake Park had a good performance from their goalie. New Prague is also a pretty good team. The Lourdes looked good tonight- the Richfield-Lourdes game is going to be a good matchup on Friday and a pre...

Hazing Against MSHSL Rules
The MSHL form that players have to sign to participate in high school sports, specifically says that hazing is not allowed. The school had to react with disciplinary action or not comply to the MSHL rules.

Mahtomedi lower in the ranks- Richfield will be a little higher despite the goalie situation. Good thing these are only predictions- I could certainly be wrong.

Blake, St. Thomas Academy, Red Wing, Breck, St. Louis Park and Richfield will be the teamas to keep your eye on this season.

3A Teams- Lakeville South
Last years final ratings have nothing to do with how the teams will do this year- the ratings do not take into account the talent of the players moving up from JV, transfers or mergers. Many of these teams graduated alot of seniors and it could be that the kids stuck on JV were there only because th...

3A Potential
Disagree... are you saying St. Thomas Academy, Rochester Lourdes, Red Wing, Northfield and Richfield are all lousy teams- I don't think so. From the info I have seen and heard, these are all pretty competitive teams and most of them play AA teams during the season. Lakeville South may be pretty good...

Pre-season Ratings
Not much substance with the pre-season ratings- bases the ratings on the total number of seniors that have graduated from programs. The ratings do not include the talent of players moving up from JV and does not include transfers or mergers. Programs that were heavy with seniors last year systematic...

Internal Politics is the Reason
Talented middle-schoolers are often forced to play at JV and V because of politics- if they cannot get a fair shake in their organization to develop because bureaucracy gets in the way, more power to them if they can sidestep the politics and go to the level they need to to develop their playing ski...

3A
There are some tough teams in 3A- St. Thomas Academy, Lourdes, Red Wing, Lakeville North and Richfield are in that section. One of the difficulties Washburn has is that they play a really weak schedule during the season which does not set them up for post-season play. Anything is possible though- Wa...

Re: Schroeder
I'm sure Schroeder is a talented player but put him against a senior defensemen about 6'0" or more with considerably more bulk than him and see how well he does- this is exactly what happened during state last year and he wasn't quite the player that every thought he was. He can't put up with t...

Other 3A Teams
I keep hearing about St. Thomas Academy and their very young phenomenal players. Aren't there other teams in 3A that are contenders? I hear that Red Wing has some very good, senior forwards. Does anyone know if that is true or not?

Re: No more pencils,no more books......
It seems like there is alot of angst over maybe 400 kids that open enroll every year in the state of Minnesota- an average size school has maybe 1500 athletes a year. We are suggesting that an entire system is gutted and replaced by an alternative for a very small number of athletes that actually op...

All I hear is talk about is St. Thomas Academy and Rochester Lourdes teams in the discussion of 3A teams making it to the playoffs. Re: parents
Before we assume that Richfield cannot compete, let's see how the season pans out- they will play Hill-Murray in their conference and St. Thomas so let's see if they can compete or not based on results and not on supposition. Let's remember that many of these schools are playing single A not double ...

Open enrollment is the only recourse that public school parents have against school districts that run crummy athletic programs and have less than mediocre academics. Without open enrollment, school districts would not have to compete for students both academically and athletically and would do even...
