Re: AA Rankings for 12/8/19
MyRankings is interesting, but sound math imo. It doesn't account for injured players, or off games or whatnot, but purely looks at the math. All teams start at a 50.00 for a ranking at the beginning of the year, and then their ranking is determined by adding their SOS and AVG Goal Differential. The...

Re: Sports cut
Sadly, the next biggest line item for SCSU's athletic department to look at might be womens' hockey. That's true and there's now one more women's sport than men's sport at SCSU, so no Title IX issue. However, I think the one small thing in favor of women's hockey is the flack that UND received for ...

Re: NLI and early commits
Division II Athletes do sign NLI's as they can receive Athletic Scholarships. Due to hockey not operating at DII Levels, it is safe to assume that most of not all of those DII signings are NLI's.

Re: Might be an ugly season...
I think this issue has been mounting for a while. Every year we see how upset people get about big hits coming down at state when the northern teams roll in, and how it affects the play. As the game gets faster and quicker, and there is more of a drive towards reducing injury, the fine line of how t...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
I can tell you from direct experience with a similar situation. A interim head coach could set the program back. If there is an opportunity to simply make a hire, that would be ideal. If the guy you want is available, then yes absolutely hire him. However, if the guy you want (long-term) is in a he...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
Some thoughts from a elite Grand Rapids hockey mind: They MUST hire for stability. Say what you want about Bruce LaRoque, but he was consistent and was in it for the long haul. These constant 2 year stints by coaches and a somewhat revolving door on the assistants side are not good for a storied pr...

Re: University of St Thomas
The Wolves averaged 7.9k attendance last season. Yeah, but, the Wolves are not in Champaign, they play in the northwest suburbs (Rosemont) where most of the youth hockey takes place....the Mission went downtown ,which is stupid, the Fury are down by Joliet, but the highest number of rinks and young...

Re: Bantams vs. High School
First I think that if you have the ability to paly a second year of Bantams, it is more beneficial than going to play JV. The pace of play is slower, the players are not as strong or fast, and the player can develop their confidence and skills. Plus if you play more games in Bantams which means more...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?
Let's not forget they cut 3/4 of the players that tryout for HS, law of averages and history shows he has more talent as a whole than most schools every year to choose from (except MG from #'s). He should be able to win more consistently. Not saying anything about him not being a good coach, but so...

I didn't see anyone say anything about going out of your way to "finish a check". Finishing should be as a part of the play, many times if you dont "finsh" and let that guy go free.. you are out of the play.. Difference in taking yourself out of the play... sometimes it happens,...

Re: New Body Contact Rules
I’m probably in the minority but I think the changes are positive and just hope they stick with them and get the change in play they are looking for. There is nothing exciting about grinding physical play. A skil game is way more exciting and it’s an entertainment business. I also disagree with the...

Anoka hockey now in 7AA. What’s there story the last 20 years? Are they trending up? What hockey program are they a feeder to? I know they won a state championship within the last 20 years. Re: New Body Contact Rules
This issue over the past few years has been one of my biggest complaints. I am a big guy, who has some speed but not top tier. I don't have great hands but can shoot alright if given some room. I am the enforcer on most of my teams in charge of keeping other players in check. With all of that in min...
