Re: 1977 State Final - Is there a full game video?

1979 was a great final too! In hindsight, Edina East came that close to a threepeat as they won in 1978 and 1979 after the monumental upset loss in the 1977 Final. Edina/East has won twice as many titles (14) as any other team but has never accomplished the threepeat. Only Eveleth, International Fal...

Re: State Tourney Attendance Record

I saw the Vintage MN number but I think their numbers have always included both classes. The 1992 Tourney attendance they list jumped by about 20k over the 1991 one class tournament. There is a Hockey News article with the 140k number for 2024. Was last year the first time they resold emptying seats...

State Tourney Attendance Record

Is there a MSHSL site link for the tournament records for attendance?

I remember seeing that there was record attendance of over 140,000 last year but I cannot find anything about attendance on the MSHSL records page.

Re: 1977 State Final - Is there a full game video?

Small correction: SOG were 39 Edina E to 14 Rochester JM according to the Star Trib write-up.

For reference, in the "Miracle on Ice" game the shots were USSR 39 USA 16.

Also, Edina did get a measure of revenge two years later in beating Rochester JM 4-3 for the 1979 State Title.

Re: 1977 State Final - Is there a full game video?

Nerd, Thanks for the link! How great was that? Opportunistic goal scoring, physical team defense, incredible goaltending, and maybe a friendly bounce or two made for an upset that very few saw coming. In hindsight it may not seem quite as big a miracle when one considers that 11 Rockets from that te...

1977 State Final - Is there a full game video?

The original miracle on ice? Has there ever been a bigger upset in the Championship Game based on Shots on Goal? Edina East 39, Rochester JM 12!!! I do not think blocked shots was a kept stat back then but there were A LOT!! I am not sure if a full video of this game exists. I did see a story that c...

Re: The good old days

Great thread! I used to drive up from Rochester for as many great sectional games as possible. The Coliseum was often packed, certainly not ideal but a great atmosphere. Nothing ever topped the full Met Center for sectional finals for me. That place had the best sightlines for hockey. I know they us...

Greatest Ever Upsets at State

Lee, Are you up for more research? I enjoyed the section upsets topic and data. My choice is a game from way before I had a high school hockey computerized ranking (1996-97?), but.... My vote goes to Rochester John Marshall over Edina for the title in1977. HS version of Miracle on Ice, three years b...

Anyone else having trouble with the stream?

Only getting the commercials.

No live broadcast at all.

Perhaps they have a geographic restriction in place?

I am in Wisconsin.

No, I was wondering if you had a short list of 5 already retired out of hockey, who were either deserving or close to being deserving.. Considering how long it took them to induct Housley, no other Minnesota born players should be holding their breath at this point, but the top 3 retired NHL player...

At 6' 220, Moose would be a good sized hockey player today and 100 years ago he must have had a presence on the ice like Zdeno Chara in our time. QUESTION: Housley is the 3rd person from Minnesota inducted in HHOF as a player....How many others were inducted in the builders category? I know of John ...

Congrats to Phil Housley! He made it look so easy out there on the ice. It is amazing to see that he is only the 3rd Minnesotan in the HHOF. Frank "Moose" Goheen is an interesting Hall of Famer. He never played a game in the NHL but that is largely because he predated it. His playing caree...

Goligoski is on the Minnesota list: http://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/us-state/nhl-players-born-in-minnesota-2014-15-stats.html Oshie, as mentioned above, is not. Minnesotan...

Sad to see and hear the state of Rochester hockey. It was a great hockey town at one time with Graham Arena absolutely packed for high school games. There were a lot of 2nd generation players, sons of players from the old Rochester Mustangs Semi-Pro team (e.g. Johannson, Reichart, Strobel, Teal, Aik...

That's right. The players feed off the energy of the fans and vice versa. What happens on the ice is fueled by what is happening off of it, it is a big feedback loop of which it is great to be a part.
