I form an opinion by what I see on the ice. I'm not sending in a ballot to make or break a team's season, Professor. If you need a stack of schedules and game results and computer printouts to form an opinion, Dr. Conehead, that's your problem. I know what I've seen. Blake is the best, IMO, that I'v...

Best Thanksgiving Week Matchups
Tourneys or just games - looks like some great matchups ahead. I am fired up to see some good hockey - which games will you take in? Here's a starter list, not a complete list by any means, add your favorites. Let's hear more than just score predictions, speak up and offer some predictions on what y...

My post rambled on, sorry. I don't know whether the money part or the potential burnout side of things bothers me more. Both are troublesome. some points though- - the numbers are not matching up. Too many things to participate in, not enough good players to fill them out so that they can operate wi...

AAA teams - girls hockey's 'Bridge to Nowhere?'
Can someone help me out? The dizzying proliferation of girls hockey 'opportunities' this year makes me extremely concerned about burnout. Not to mention the ever present drain on my checkbook. We have a newly 'improved' NDP tryout process. Which failed to attract the stated goal of participants in P...

can anyone confirm this rumor that i heard..I heard that they are going to mandate each kid in the 1993 age group go to the mankato camp before the final NDP team is picked for the last part of the tryout? If this is the case does anyone think it is kind of crazy for a 15 year old kid to go away to...

Makes some sense that on an older 17/18 national team you'd find that most of them came up through codp. OS has only been around for what, 3 years? 4 years? They will be able to count a few more heads in that group each year I bet. The younger girls that will emerge the next few years will be better...

The new and improved (?) NDP tryouts
The minnesotahockey website has nothing yet on the NDP tryouts, it says 'brochure coming soon.' But I have heard from our coach that it is being revised to mirror the boys program, so I read that brochure and now some information is starting to come out if you talk to your coach, because they are no...

I'm sure the opinions are quite varied about jv vs u14. I can see pros and cons both ways, and it has generated some interesting conversations at the rink recently. Tim Morris is not the only coach I've heard say they would be for eliminating JV. A couple other coaches around here have pushed for it...

You have to remember this is coming from the coaches, the head of the girls coaching association to be exact (Morris). These varsity coaches for the most part would be much happier if they did not have to deal with a jv team. There are exceptions, but the only thing most of them care about is their ...

Phase out of JV teams?
This might be a good topic for discussion, it ties somewhat with the thread on the idea for a post-grad option for women's hockey. Have heard that the coach's association and mshsl are discussing possibly phasing out JV hockey for girls within a few years, which would put the JV girls on Minnesota H...

I'm with you, jumpstart. Our daughter has no opportunity to be in the BAGEL league either. Her summer team is not one of those participating. And she trains in the highest OS group in the summer but nobody seems to have a spot for her, we asked. So even being connected to OS is not a guarantee you c...

I think a lot of people put through the paperwork a lot of places before the deadline to keep their options open leading up to the start of school next year. As long as that paperwork was done before the deadline, you then have options. If not, you will be sitting a year by the new guidelines. I ha...

Sounds similar to the Great Northern Skill fest being put together by Media in that it has college coaches running the sessions. Format is different with this one running twice a week for 16 sessions, where the Skill Fest is a week long camp, correct? Seems like a good vehicle for exposure to colleg...

It's called 'hockey parent paranoia'. C'mon you all know a few parents who have succumbed to this. It starts innocently enough with the invitation to play on just one more spring team because she's playing up this time, gee that will get her noticed. It expands eventually for some to accepting every...
