the purpose of this spring league is to get players on the ice and ready for the NDP tryouts March 23-25 (Phase 1) and April 13-15 (Phase 2). I think it benefits all of the players to play with others that they are not used to as well. I know my daughter has made friends all over the metro thru this...

Having been to the state tournament at both locations I am happy that it moved to the X. Ridder was too small. I did not enjoy having to just about sit in the band's lap at games. Ridder's small capacity was limiting the number of people that could go and many didn't go because they didn't think tha...

Getting named also requires some promotion by your team coach. Some coaches do not choose to do this. Eden Prairie's coach is reknown for promoting his players and it shows in the number of players represented on these teams.

With the incorporation of OE ruling by MHSL I would like to see the section assignments take into account the size of the youth programs. Right now 3 of the top 5 youth programs with the most girls are sitting in section 6AA. This should be spread out more....

Last year there were over 600 nominations that were included on the ballot for the two levels. There was a total of 160 per level invited to Phase 1 or a total of 320 players, so basically a 1 in 2 chance....

All players must be nominated to participate. The only ones that get a bye to Phase 1 are last year's National Camp attendees. The rationale is that if they made National Camp last year they would be nominated again this year. All players that participate in Phase 2 must participate in Phase 1.

Let us not forget. If the OE rule that player must sit for a year is enacted those players who still want to play hockey have a couple of options: they can play Thoroughbreds or they can join one of the U19 teams that are now in existence. After one year they can then go to the H.S. varsity that the...

Another issue with bringing 7th and 8th graders up onto a varsity team is the fact that these players will be playing 5-6 years on that team. I know of several players that chose the Thoroughbreds or to Open Enroll elsewhere to get more challenge after 3-4 years on their original varsity.

In my community the U14 try-outs have been held the week immediately before the High school tryouts for a number of years. It has proved to be very successful. It helps these younger players get ready for the high school tryouts. The U14A coach works with the high school coach during both tryouts. T...
