Jr. Fest 2011

The MGHCA runs Jr. Fest for the benefit of girls playing high school hockey in Minnesota. It doesn't matter if you play for a public or private school. Your high school coach must nominate you to try out for Jr. Fest. Thoroughbreds, NAHA, etc. are not coached by members of MGHCA and thus not eligibl...

Girls going to Private Schools

Girls are eligible for MSHSL activities/athletics once they enter 7th grade. They are eligible for as many years as they have remaining in school, ( ex. 6 for 7th graders, 4 years for freshmen ). Schools can have their own policies regarding what grade levels can try out and play for their school. A...

I think they're referring to an assistant coach who has been at Eden Prairie, Hopkins and this year will be at BSM. There seems to be a lot of transfers to the school he's assisting at.

Lets change the youth program to boys

My daughter and a number of other girls who are taking their hockey playing skills to the college level played boys hockey before high school girls hockey. She developed much better puckhandling and decision making skills on the ice because of the speed of the boys game. She also had a great group o...

Were there player's that switched schools this year? It seems to be decreasing after 9th grade, but there always seems to be movement. Any news on that?

NAHA 2010

MN Ice Cats improved every game at NAHA. Rachel Bona, Taylor Kuehl, Sam LaShomb, and Chelsea Laden all named to the All Tournament team. Played an incredible game today vs. a very physical and skilled Little Caesars team. What a great way to end their Ice Cat careers.

US 18 Select Team

All seven Minnesota girls played well, hopefully all are kept on the roster for the world championships in January, which will be played in Sweden. Not only did the US sweep Canada, but out shot them by a significant margin each game. Of the six Canadian goals all but one were on the power play. Fiv...

The USA defeated Canada 4-1 this afternoon. Layla Marvin had one of the USA goals with an assist by Slyvester. All the Minnesota girls looked great. I thought McMillan was exceptionally strong on defense.

purpose of jv

In our case we have a couple of seniors that play JV. As long as they continue to work hard and are positive role models, I'm fine with that. Most Class A teams are short on numbers so they keep all the player's they can.

The Ice Cats won their pool going 3-0. They lost their first playoff game 3-2 in OT to Base Hockey. Base Hockey was a mixture of Syracuse, Princeton, Northeastern, and Toronto Aeros player's. Base ended up in the finals.
A nice showing for Minnesota as the Ice Cats outshot Base.

Jr. Fest

There are a number of issues with Jr. Fest. First, most of the committed player's don't participate, so you have a void of top level talent involved in the event. Second, the Jr. Whitecaps for the most part skipped the event as they were told it wasn't as important as the OS Prospects weekend follow...
