Girls Switching Schools

Were there player's that switched schools this year? It seems to be decreasing after 9th grade, but there always seems to be movement. Any news on that?

Breck

Rumor has it that Buffalo lost a junior to Breck. I imagine she'll have to play JV this year....that seems like a questionable decision.

Questionable decision? While it may hurt her chances to play pro womens hockey, I'm sure the degree from Breck will go a ways to getting her into a quality college......I guess it just depends on her priorities.

Frankly, I don't think there is a lot of recruiting. I think it's 95% parental. Would those parents like you to think their son or daughter was actually "recruited?" Yes, but I don't think that's the case.

My curiosity is more about free player movement after ninth grade. Most 10th, 11th and 12th graders should be playing a season of JV after their transfer yet it seems like very few do. Is that fair for the families that do make a change and their child does play a year of JV. What's up with the wide variance with the application of the rule?

I don’t think it has anything to do with fair. Lets say you have two players, Player A and Player B. They both attend a metro public school. Just before their sophomore season Player A’s mother and father divorce and she decides to move with mother to a neighboring suburb she switches to that school after the move. In that same year Player B decides she does not like her hockey team’s chances this year and transfers to a school in a neighboring suburb. Player A can play Varsity in her sophomore season and Player B must play JV in her sophomore season. There are other circumstances such as financial hardship, that will allow for transfer without a year of JV. I believe each is looked at by the School ADs and MSHL on a case by case basis.

I think it is best left off the board to speculate about individual cases.

Funny you're the one to reply considering Hopkins girls hockey, and boys basketball, transfers are as ethically questionable as it gets. Different rules there in Royaltown.

No same rules, in fact more scrutiny from the MSHL than any other school due to the Star Trib article about boys hoops a few years ago. I do personally know the families and kids your referring to and none of them deserves the mud your slinging.

In the end I guess I would rather be in a place that people want to get into than a place people want to get out of. We are proud of our academics and how we fare in athletics in the toughest conference in the state.

Things might change in the west metro as coaches move around from one program to another.

I'm with you SBD, wasn't there only one change in the West Metro? Possibly two if you count Champlin as a west metro team?

I think they're referring to an assistant coach who has been at Eden Prairie, Hopkins and this year will be at BSM. There seems to be a lot of transfers to the school he's assisting at.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I thought that I was the only one who noticed that odd coincidence.

Hear there are at least 2 more who have left, and I anticipate more might follow.
