It's the players game. When a parent steps in and raises a concern about ice time they are getting involved in and, in essence, fighting the players battle. The life lessons that are learned being part of a team and playing sports is about being accountable for your actions, but also being able to c...

I'll bring this thread back up as it touches on Lakeville Hockey and its board and what transpired before this last season. Not surprisingly it didn't even take a year for things to come up again and once again a reactionary, knee jerk decision with no thought of how to correct the perceived issue o...

54fighting, You make a very valid point with your statements. I see where you are coming from. All kids want the opportunity to play and excel. We can play numbers probably all day, I look at associations like Spring Lake Park, Park Rapids and Virginia (forgot about Niskanen), I would be willing to ...

Thats why Tier 1 exists everywhere but in Minnesota, to provide those kids that don't have the opportunity in there area to play the game. Minnesota hockey has a base and virtually every town, or one near by, has an association. They offer waivers out for players to get the opportunity to play in ot...

High school players leaving to play juniors has been common over the last 15 years or so and one big reason is the 'AAA' philosophy, in order to be the best you have to constantly be playing up. If my memory serves me right, Lucia was huge on Junior hockey players during his tenure at Colorado Colle...

Tier 1 Hockey in Minnesota, is it coming or already here?
The comments made in another post and recent current events involving 'AAA' hockey have prompted me to start another thread of Minnesota Hockey versus USA Hockey. My goal is to establish a meaningful debate and to help set the stage, I have drafted my understanding of the rationale below to aid in t...

Imagine that 5thgraders and the Fire, what a unique topic of conversation. #12 of the 95' is a good hockey player, whom Eden Prairie completely took out of the game in the Edina tournament, rendering him ineffective. Best player in that game was the former E.P. goalie for the Fire. Is there anybody ...

And what happens, someone comes on to promote a...

Peewee A State Tournament
All entrants are deserving, who is gonna win it? To me D6 has the advantage, quite possibly the toughest district to come out of this year. With 4 and sometimes 5 teams rated in the top ten virtually all year it is hard to argue, but when Chaska wins the D6 playoffs and doesn't make it, anything can...

Peewe 'A' East Regional - All Tournament Players
Looking at the regional draws over the last weekend, I decided to take in the East Regional in St Louis Park. I was able to take in a number of games and came away impressed with many players, but being from the crease, not many goaltenders. Many good games and some very exciting and entertaining, l...

One more thing, take steps to reduce the number of whistles during a game. Best examples are to go back to touch up offsides and to add in touch up icing, especially at the upper levels. The kids will be skating more, there will be more flow. Take the puck out of the referees hands and put it back o...

All good input............. 1. Keep the age groups based on school classes, adjustment to age date should be restructured to allow for kids to play within their grade level, allowing to opt up and opt down, currently I believe they can only opt up. Since the youth prgrams are a feeder for the high s...

WOW.....let's look at the basis of this argument for a second. You guys are all upset because someone won a game 18-2 and you all feel it was unsportsmanlike to do so. The plain simple fact is this: It is the coaches job for Edina to encorage his players to work hard, play the game in all areas of t...

Here is my observation: The Tier 1 - AAA is observed in every other state across the country, except Minnesota. It is set-up like a club, with minimal requirements on residency for the make up of the team. Why is this done? To provide everyone the opportunity to play hockey, in other states they don...

I was at that game. What were the shots? The clock guy only posted them for Wayzata. The first goal never should have happened, the Woodbury defense had multiple times to clear the puck and fanned, I do credit the Wayzata player for going hard to the net to bang in the loose puck, but a nice a goal?...

As with everything on this site, my opinion on the 96' Fire is go ahead and let them play! I don't know the ages of all their players, but what their dealing with is a 50/50, half the age group is younger first year peewees and half the age group is older second year squirts. Seeing older squirts pl...

fredric61: There is an interesting article in the Fargo Forum this week about the Roseau/Warroad rivalry and about how difficult it has been for Moorhead to establish some sort of competition with either team. When you take that idea (satisfied playing each other) and add to that the facts that War...

Watchdog, I enjoy your comments and candor. What bothers me is it seems that as people (us citiots) who can't pop on down to the North rink and check out whats going on, are ignorant and don't know anything about hockey because we are not from the North or Roseau. If they happen to rate your squad l...

I sense a lot of anger 'dog'. Without being able to see a team on a regular basis or if at all due to travel and distance, as you have stated, how do you compare or rate them? In my opinion, next to seeing them the only way to get any idea of where a team is at is to compare them to teams that I hav...
