behind the glass/cup
hey guys what is that mean when you write behind the glass/cup? just wondering?

behind the glass
I'll give you the pt. if you're saying Flugum and Meillier are
going to see significant ice time of players with 4 or more
pts. AL would have the edge 12-11.
'cup' was the 'not long for this board' alias who needed to
vent his anger knowing he'd get kicked off anyway. any
connection?

lyons
Thor
This Lyons kid you were talking about is he any relation to Dick Lyons who played in the early 60s for the North Mankato Vikings. This was a mens league before there was high school hockey. I posted about a rough game that was played between Albert Lea and North Mankato in the old 1a post. Maybe this is his Grand father just wondering? Sounded like Dick Lyons was pretty good.

re:upucker
yes Dick is Tyler's grampa. Don't know much about his
past hockey career, but Tyler certainly has inherited some
nice hockey skills from somewhere.

re: puckstar07
this 'exactly' what high school hockey is all about. two
naturally formed teams, with no recruits and no last
minute transfers. these kids all grew up together and
played together on teams since they were 5 yrs. old.
most of them have skated spring/summer/fall and winter
in their own leagues and the metro leagues or tournies.
all in effort to get to where they are today. there's a
handful of D3 level players on both teams and all of them
know how to play the game. are either one of them a
marquee team?no. but they're two best teams in this
part of the state. at least they're not a couple of contrived
tripleAAA all-star teams put together for the sole purpose
of showcasing their individual talents for the scouts.

Re: re: puckstar07
I agree with you Thor, for the past few years Lourdes has won this section with a team put together to do just that, not by the school or the coaches, but put together none the less. Now with them gone section 1A will finally have a team to send to state that will represent what the 2 class system is supposed to be about. People can say what they want about the quality of hockey, but come Friday night, the GAC will be packed and loud as 2 teams play for what the kids dream about, a chance to go to State. Good luck to both teams, it will be a great atmosphere and game.

Re: re: puckstar07
puckstar07 or B2Bantamstar or whatever your true colors really are, you have zero clue what you are writing. In Burnsville's summer camp tournament, AL beat St. Louis Park, outshot Buffalo badly but lost and was up 5-3 on WBL before ending in a tie. My point being that these teams are very competitive hockey teams. Section 1 Great 8 team a year ago did very well and knocked off some very good teams. Maybe you don't know much about that, oh well.

sssshhhhhh!
joshdog - love your spirit, agree with your rebuttals, but let me offer you one bit of advice from one So. Mn. hockey fan to another - don't get into it with "them".
Take it from people who have butted heads for more years than they care to admit, "It just doesn't matter". Section 1 hockey teams and D4 youth teams won't get respect until we start taking the Big prizes. Teams from this part of the state have improved a great deal over the years, and the best way to reach the ultimate goal is to do it quietly. We know that whoever faces the Mighty Section 5A Gods after the A.L. - East final will give it their all, and will probably fare better than all the "experts" think they will. The better programs in this part of the state don't back down. They take home lots of hardware from northern and Metro tournaments, but they do it quietly. We make our youth programs sit and watch the WBLs and Centennials and Moorheads and Warroads of the world. We respect them for what they have and what we can learn from them. All you can hope for is that someday they'll have to do the same in return.

re:goldy
thanks for your support of 1a hockey on the board this
year. nice to know not all large school hockey fans look
down their noses at the small schools. sorry about your
jm boys. I thought if they got a crack at Lakeville they'd
beat'em. I have no particular beef with private schools
except when they crow about how good they are and
how bad 1a and 4a are. we're expected buy that little
tripleAAA johnny freshman walks into the locker room
at the private school 'hockey factory u' and to his amaze-
ment there sit 8 other tripleAAA players he knows from
previous tripleAAA leagues. wow what a coincidence! then
the coach walks in and happens to recognize all of them and can't believe his good fotune. and they wonder why
they're all stacked into one section.

Re: re:goldy
In 2002, didnt section 1aa/1a win the whole tournament? Dont try to BS me and tell me that it was the 1aa players either that won that tourney.

funny bone
Ya just have to wait and see whos in da net. Not gonna tel, not gonna do it, just wood nt be prudent.

als goalie
Word on the street is saying ALS blue Line club has hired Rob Stauber to come down and work with the new goalie all day today and Travis Weber a former albert lea boy you know ew hes comin too.

Re: als goalie
Good grief, when is it Albert Lea's hockey team due for some good luck? Year in and year out they have the some of the worst luck. Nystrom doesn't deserve this.

re:AL vs East
yes this is a lousy break for Nystrom, he deserves better.
East needs to ignore who is in net for AL and concentrate on out playing them. They are a dangerous team with
their backs to the wall.
As mentioned before, East has had their share of bad luck
over the last few years. They've had 5 good starting 'D'
men quit or transfer. Then this year their top defensive
'D' man broke his leg. This has caused them to have to
weaken their forward lines by moving them to 'D'. This
is why you see them out of position once in a while.
But the one spot you don't need turmoil in, right before
playoffs, is the goalie. Nystrom is a good coach, but he's
got his work cut out for him.

AL FANS
The number of fans from Albert Lea will be few and far between because of poor scheduling between the MSHSL and Minnesota Hockey. Four youth teams from Albert Lea will be playing out of town in regional tournaments and Albert lea Wrestlers will be competeing in the state wrestling tournament Friday too.

1A
Come down to St. Peter on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus college to watch a section final. First time in awhile the Lourdes are not in it. It will be tough to who ever wins this to beat Breck or Blake.

re: crowds
but NU seems to hate East more and has adopted AL as their 1a team. Two years ago their entire team came to
a playoff game @ASA between Waseca and East to cheer
for Waseca. Since they were in the opposite bracket and
East had to play #1 rated Lourdes in their next game they
weren't there scouting. They haven't played East in a
high school game for quite a few years, so who knows
where this hatred stems from. You'll also have some of the bitter West people there pulling for you. This'll help
fill out the AL side of the rink. Good sign for AL with 4
youth teams in regions.

re:crowds
Thanks Thor
Thats Reassuring it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the game was postponed to Monday or Tuesday with bad weather and all but fat chance of that happening. Lets just hope both teams come to play and have a great game. Either team will represent 1A well.

1a vs 5a
I hope East wins, not just because I'm an East fan, but
with the goalie situation at AL, East has a better chance of
keeping it a respectable score against 5a. If AL plays them
right now it could be a major blowout on state wide tv.
then you'll see a major reshuffling of the sections by next year.
